Australian Defense Minister visits Thailand to tighten security relations

BANGKOK, 24 August 2017 (NNT) – The Defense Ministers of Thailand and Australia have met to further enhance bilateral cooperation in security and terrorism prevention.

As a guest of the Thai Ministry of Defense, Australian Defense Minister Marise Payne is paying an official visit to Thailand with her entourage from August 22-24. Following a reception for her, Ms Payne attended a meeting with her Thai counterpart Gen Prawit Wongsuwon to discuss security-related issues.

The two sides agreed to continue strengthening their security cooperation through information exchanges, military exercises and peacekeeping support. A joint marine patrol has been scheduled for early next year to boost the two countries’ capacity to tackle any threats at sea.

Afterwards, Ms Payne paid a courtesy call on Prime Minister Gen Prayut Chan-o-cha at Government House. On behalf of Australia, she assured the premier that the country is willing to cooperate with both Thailand and ASEAN in the fight against terrorism at the regional and international scale.

In response, Gen Prayut expressed his delight at the two nations’ maintenance of bilateral cooperation for 65 years and continued relations for mutual benefits. He also suggested that a defensive, rather than offensive, approach be adopted towards security cooperation and that priority be given to dialogues for sustainable peace.

Hang on was this reported by the juntas propaganda machine NNBT?

Must be true and exactly as reported then no reason to believe they massage the facts at all, I dare say they will shortly be telling us that the Aussies are now fully on side and completely understand all points on the roadmap

In that way the Thai security forces don't have to leave Thailand.

Hypocrite. That's not the approach Prayut is using with regard to the southern Thailand insurgency. He relies instead on a pure military strategy to defeat the insurgents in whole.

The Australian Defence Minister couldn't tighten a nut and bolt. Australian politicians are somewhere at the bottom of the barrel so far as quality politicians go. Much like self declared Thai military politicians.

Or maybe the defence Minister of Australia found out that Thailand loves buying crappy submarines. Australia has those Collins Submarines that are not going well . Probably trying to flog them off to the Thai government and they might stand a good chance of doing that after the chinese subs
