Please post your download speedtest results to UK using Testmy.net speedtest here please, and mention which ISP and what package you're on.

Make only use of the testmy.net website, so we can make a correct comparison, because many fake speed tests out there.

To do the speedtest just copy and paste below link in any browser and press download in the green bar that pops up.

Reason I ask is that I'm on the 3BB 30/10 VDSL and usually get 6 - 7 Mb to UK, but to Singapore I will get 25 Mb.

So I enable a VPN to Singapore, and then get around 19 Mb to UK.

That was until last weekend, when the speed to UK using the Singapore VPN dropped to about 5-6 Mb, however my 3BB speed to Singapore is still 25 MB.

Speedtest to Singapore, with Singapore VPN enabled, gives me 25 - 28 Mb.

I had the 3BB engineers here the other day, not the usual somtam seller engineers but the specialists from the Chonburi head office, and they spend all day at my place trying to figure out the issue.

At the end of the day they couldn't pinpoint the problem, so they started doing test today and last night at their private premises and at the office.

They did speedtests at 3 locations and sent me screen shots from the results, each location having fibre 100/30 connection.

To Singapore they get about 65 Mb, but to UK on the 3BB server only between 10 and 15 Mb. With the same Singapore VPN as me  enabled they would get 9.5 - 15 Mb.

So today I went to the TOT office and inquired about their Fibre since it is available in my area.

They let me test on their 100/50 Mb WIFI  in the office.

To Singapore I would get about 85 Mb, but to UK only 6 Mb. With the Singapore VPN about 7 Mb.

So unless I'm missing something, every ISP is seriously blocking UK connection, or there is again something wrong with the undersea cable to Europe, because France and Germany give similar results.

I look forward to your results, if possible including a screen shot.

Thanks.

I'm getting 144.8 Mbps down, 18.4 Mbps up.

TOT 200/80 fibre package, northern BKK.

Thanks is that using the testmy.net site?

I only ask because with Ookla I also get triple the speed from testmy.net.

Thanks

To give you a comparison, my result with Ookla beta and with testmy.net, taken right now.

Was that beta.speedtest.net ? Link at the top left of the Ookla main page

That's a great speed, but did you notice the averages below the result?

1408% faster than my host average.

1785% faster than my city average

I don't know how TOT manage their international contention ratio but there's only us, the local school (who also provide WiFi to the wat food-court) and a resort (who paid for the backbone to the village) on TOT fibre.

Thanks for posting your results, and another proof of fake speedtest servers.

Beta gives you obviously higher speeds to UK than AIS guarantees you to Bangkok.

Nperf is only 17.8 MB, but if you select the second server ( freetouch) you will easily get triple that.

I get 31 Mb on freetouch, as you can see from the screen shot I posted, but only 8.4 on OneProvider.

Impossible to say every ISP and every package, but yes, as a general rule Thai ISPs do throttle all single connections outside of Thailand, at least for their cheaper packages. Singapore seems to suffer somewhat less though.

3BB certainly does throttle for me on their 50/20 VDSL @inter package, though because I have the @inter option they seem to do it less than they otherwise would.

My results (for the little they are worth):

Bangkok: 50/20

Singapore: 27/20

London: 14/4

Contention is unlikely to be an issue, unless you live out in the sticks with many nearby users. In Jomtien with all the condo buildings and what-have-you I still get the full 50mbs of my line to Bangkok, and if contention was an issue it should be visible in that figure.

TOT fiber 50/20 Pattaya 19:00

Since a few days, they started massive throttling from 18:00.

3BB have been doing this for a long time. Though there does seem to be an averaging element to the calculations.

Ah, my apologies, I didn't realize the test server could be changed for speedtest.  I was hitting Bangkok.

That's still a reasonable speed to UK, for which I would sign right away, but it is indeed throttled.

My friend get 16 - 17 to UK on a 18 Mb inter 3BB ADSL package.

He is the only one left on the Dslam as all other customers have switched to TOT Fibre, and are not happy as far as I can hear.

EDIT: Even Singapore is below 1Mbit/s atm.

Ironically, my Upload speed to EU is still good, I could upload a large file to my German Server with 12Mbit/s!

I've noticed TOT guys every day, tinkering with their fiber lines.

I guess this line/area (upper end of Soi Neurnplubwan), is now heavily overbooked.

Time to move to a less crowded place, me thinking...:saai:
