Urban reforestation launched on the occasion of the King’s birthday

NAKHON PATHOM, 28 August 2017 (NNT) - A tree-planting campaign was launched at Kasetsart University Kamphaengsaen campus on Saturday to honor His Majesty the King on the occasion of his birthday anniversary on 28 July 2017. Presiding over the event was Mr. Charanthada Kannasutr, a Privy Councillor. Joining him were 5,000 people including Deputy Governor of the province Somboon Sirivej, Kasetsart University staff, students and employees as well as members of the public. 

The tree-planting project covers an area of 100 rai at a sports field in the campus. It involves planting of 10,000 trees of native species such as yangna or garjan, Burmese ebony and Siamese rosewood, provided by the Department of National Parks, Wildlife and Plant Conservation and related units. 

The project will make Kasetsart University Kamphaengsaen campus an educational institution in Thailand with the largest forested area for researches. It will not only increase tree canopy cover in the province but also give living classrooms and provide food and habitat for a range of wildlife, birds and pollinators in the community.

Eight in court after fatal pub fight

All eight suspects in the killing of a student during a recent pub brawl have been arrested and appeared in court yesterday. The victim suffered a fatal wound to his head during the fight at a pub in Chaiyaphum province, after apparently being hit by a stone.

Thailand’s regional sport supremacy severely tested

Current SEA GAMES expose weaknesses and we are running out of excuses.

 

A main characteristic of the SEA Games is the inclusion of regional sports, played by local people of countries in Southeast Asia and inserted into the biennial tournament by the host nation. Before Malaysia kick-started the SEA Games, Thailand relied on that as an excuse, especially in case it loses its regional domination to Kuala Lumpur. But about halfway through the tournament, it’s clear that Bangkok cannot use that kind of argument.

Anti-graft body to be asked to probe DPM Prawit and police chief
