Russian Woman shot and robbed in Rawai, Phuket

I lived in that area, right around the corner , for 6 years and have left Thailand over 3 years ago.
Has crime increased a lot in the past few years? I haven't been following Thaivisa or Phuket news.

Something doesn't sound right with this reporting.

"On the floor, police found .38 bullets" - assuming they mean the shells, .38 caliber is a very rare caliber for a semi-auto pistol.

I would be interested to know how many shells were found in the bedroom, because unless they fired 6 shots from a revolver, why dump out the empty shells half way through the cylinder / magazine, thus, also leaving more evidence behind, and this happened outside the house as well, where they dumped out only one shell.

Unusual the safe wasn't bolted in.

Anyway, sounds like someone knew she was in possession of a considerable amount of cash, or an item/s of particular value.

I see many expats in the bank, withdrawing large sums of money, possibly for a month's living expenses, or the purchase of an expensive item.  It wouldn't be difficult for a dodgy bank teller to act as a "spotter" having access to the account holder's address.

For those comming over for the 6 months winter retreat, the best solution would be to keep the cash bought in from abroad in a bank safe locker and change it in an exchange booth....your theory of the corrupt bank teller is highly perspicacious and calls for extended caution when involving 3rd parties with one's cash or money!!..

I would also be cautious with the maids or other cleaning staff, bringing home girls, when dealing with immigration police, and with the chaps who deliver goods/furniture to a house and thus have a chance to look around to assess if there is money or not....and above all to keep a low profile...

I guess that despite all that people say of homes built in secured developpments with guards scanning and challenging why and who enters, plus CCTV all around, it can have some somewhat of a dissuasive effect....although of course any security guard can be bribed etc. etc. etc.

That is one very, very lucky lady.

Lets hope they catch them.

Russians are tough, hardy creatures.

Hope she makes a full recovery.

It is puzzling. Why just a few shells around. If the had emptied the chamber 6 as you would do there should have been  6 shells around.

I had a short nose .38  police special when i was skippering a boat and had .38 hollow nose bullets.

The way so much evidence is laying around looks like they planted. Should start looking for her close friends of boy friends.

Sounds suss to me a random robbery

More like a shady deal gone wrong

Sounds a little mafia based to me

Via thai heavies  but who will ever know

So the man went out drinking leaving his wife alone in a villa without any securityofficers in a dark quiet corner.

Hmm, why didn't he buy a house in a closed community with security? It's worth it.

Some of us prefer living in relatively isolated areas.

Reading about this yesterday evening did leave me a bit worried though - and for the first time I closed all downstairs windows plus bedroom doors to the balconies .

The poor woman must have been terrified and I feel v sorry for her.  Hopefully she will make a full recovery and the police will catch those responsible.

If she had not shouted everything would be fine. She bought insurance and she would be paid for the loss , may be fifty percent more (LOL).

Make way for the tv gun specialists probably the same boxing specialists that predicted the Mayweather fight!! lol

To be pedantic, a 'Gun' has wheels.

Changed after mid 1700's to refer to almost anything that fired/ shot a projectile.

All this speculation on this thread is rather amusing. I know the neighborhood, it's not far from my house. I know some people who live on that Soi. It is rather an upscale large pool villa neighborhood with large walls and gates on each home. I think mostly all farang. Rather a narrow Soi off the main Soi. They were definitely targeted. If you go around looking like you're big money and piss the locals or some of your fellow countrymen off, they will come after you.

No, I was not until now aware that there was a second press release, which as I stated I hoped there would be.
Relative rarity of a .38 caliber semi auto does not alter the fact that they do exist, including manufacturered by: Colt, Dan Wesson, European American Armory, Les Baer Custom, Ed Brown,American Classic, and Sig Sauer.
Per Elkski above: " Plenty of 38 Supra semi autos  here."
They are not, in fact, "very rare".

Unless you were there, and held the weapon in your hand, you are in fact proposing as yet unproven theories. Completely within your right, but not known or proven scenarios are IN FACT, not fact at all, but theory.

If the perps decided to reload, most revolvers can manage that in seconds. Snap the cylinder out and depress the ejector. Two seconds. Speedloader for new shells, another two seconds.

It makes no matter if one round or shell casing was found outside. Until more information comes forth that neither adds to nor subtracts from any scenario. Somebody policed SOME of the brass and dropped one on the way out. An unknown round was fired from a .38 semi automatic pistol outside, or from a revolver and manually ejected, (not "selected" by the way). A rat picked one shell casing up inside and carried it out, then decided it was inedible.
Speculate all you wish, but admit you are speculating.

.38's in semi-auto are rare, that's not to say they do not exist, but they are rare.  Yes, it's possible a .38 semi-auto was used, but there is a higher probability it was a .38 revolver.  Simple as that.

As far as using a speed loader, you can't "eject" specific "shells" with a speed loader.  All 6 shells / unfired rounds are ejected, and all 6 new rounds are loaded into the cylinder.  This is why I said I would be interested to know how many shells were found in the bedroom.

Another other reload would have to be a tactical reload, which requires "selecting" the shells from the cylinder, and replacing them with live ammunition.

Perhaps "a rat" should also does the reporting and investigating.   :cheesy:

OK, I concede. You are the self proclaimed super expert, and 38 automatic pistols are very rare, even though they are not.
You are not worth the time to debate, as your mind is already made up.

They are rare because "rats" caused problems in the factories, and they had to halt production.   :cheesy:

Perhaps you can provide a link to show otherwise.
