Sat Nav for bike

Being a cheapskate, I bought a car Satnav for our campervan and then used it on the scooter too. I made a simple safety chord from string and then stuck the Tomtom Satnav on the nearside mirror.

I had to turn the volume up and the Vespa has a USB charger inside the knee box, but everything worked fine.

Just another option......

It appears that the Garmin Zumo 595 is being sold by GPS4YOU.NET, telephone 061 662 6155.  They have a shop on the second floor of Fortune Town (http://www.fortunetown.co.th/contact), towards the Tesco end.  The Facebook link is https://www.facebook.com/gps4you/. The owner's nickname is Boy.  He speaks English and is very knowledgeable.  It may be useful to visit the shop and speak to him there.  He can explain he GPS and, just as important, the maps and how they are upgraded. GPS4YOU also sells Ram mounts.

I use the Garmin marine handheld 78S with the Ram mount.. The AA batteries last quite awhile and it's waterproof in the rain. You can use a power cord but I like it simpler with just the batteries.

With a 16 gig micro SD card it can hold many maps..

Late Edit.  Second to last sentence should read "He can explain the GPS and, just as important, the maps and how they are upgraded."

Excellent thanks for that.

Available in Thailand?

Do not expect the calculated routes to work in the regional/country areas. I had a Garmin for the car until it died after 15 months but it was useless in the country but ok in the city.

I use my iphone

I've used Google Maps in Vietnam and Cambodia, I was amazed how good it was - I've driven thousands of miles on all kinds of roads, never had a problem. All you need is a powerbank, most phones will need recharging during the day if you're doing day trips and use it frequently.

i have a zumo 595 and an old montana 650 T, i have purchased the thai map from the garmin shop in bangkok ,Sathorn Nakorn Tower, 100/38-39, 22nd Floor, North Sathon Road,, Silom, Bangrak, Bangkok 10500, Thailand, and they both work very well, the advantage of the montana is that you can put "aa" cell batteries in it if the main battery goes flat.

some of the functions of the sumo , like the windy road thing, do not work with the local map but it is still an excellent item. the reason i have two is that the montana body perished with old age and it was working but no longer waterproof, when i returned to Australia recently i contacted garmin and they replaced it with a brand new item.

i use the ram mounts that were included in the box and have had no drama with either unit.

I'm sorry I haven't any  experience buying the Garmin maps locally.

I've heard OK reports about buying maps from Gadgetrend Amarin Plaza   and GPS4YOU @ IT Mall Fortune though,

I use mostly the OSM maps that I copy to a blank micro SD card.
