I do agree with the point that Thais don't generally suffer from extreme malnutrition, based on the fertility of the land and the tight family and village networks. Go to Africa and look at the kids running around with bowls tied to their wrists to make begging easier. Never seen anything like that here. So, yeah, they are lucky in that way. Many other things do not function so well, so, they will have to figure out how to deal with those things, just like every other country does, for better or for worse.

Not really. Given the location and history, Thailand could be a lot 'luckier.

Public health, transport and education are considered standard issue IMO, and the standard of all 3 in Thailand is pretty abysmal.

Things could be better. I'll take it for while. They need us and not the other way, at least as far as I'm concerned .

Agreed.

It's nice here, but there are some big downsides.

For citizens of certain countries (eg. USA) laws regarding things like Tax and Business ownership are a bit friendlier. (half your luck!thumbsup.gif )

That notwithstanding, Thailand's overall a great place, but it wouldn't take that much to make me move elsewhere.

I choose to live here. Cant own land or house does not worry me. My choice and I am happy with it. When I am not I will move somewhere else. Seems pretty straight forward to me.

You choose to apply to live here. The outcome of that application being approved or ongoing is dependent on the whim of the Thai government. This concept of self selection of place of abode is a fallacy.

Thailand isn't the only country where you can't own land, so no complaints there. The cost of living is a 3rd of the USA, summer all year round, friendly Thai folks, little cussing going on, much less armed than the Americans and road rage is a minimum. I love it here and all my good Thai friends!

are you kidding me? Good friends with Thais?.....o, I forgot....you are speaking Thai language and can understand what they are talking about you, hahahaha

Thank-you. Whenever I've had it with the garbage here, I need reminding that the grass weren't as green there as I've begun thinking. (It's fin snowing there now anyway).

I enjoy my time here, but I do think of it as a win-win. I spend a million baht in the economy

and I escape the cold winters, enjoy the food and sunshine, warm waters. Of course I have

to put up with all the other nonsense, but if I ever get too fed up I will leave.

more idiotic <deleted> , this drivel is the sort of stuff that makes me want to puke.......you are living in a 3rd World Corrupt Country where over half the population are on the game one way or another...... its not paradise!!!!!blink.png

According to you, over 30 million Thais are prostitutes and most of the country is a brothel.

You said; “you (meaning we) are living in a 3rd World Corrupt Country where over half the population are on the game one way or another” which I assume means you do not live in Thailand. So who are you and what are you? .What country do you live in? Do you have extremist political views?

Or perhaps you`re one of those losers who couldn`t hack it in Thailand and bear a grudge against the country? Or got shafted by some Thai woman of ill repute when you fell head over heels in love with her after only 2 nights of hot passion and paid sex?

For me personally, I consider myself lucky and fortunate to be in Thailand and able to afford living here.

The continuous politically bickering's here do rather spoil things, because it brings an uncertainty to what the furture holds for us in Thailand, but besides that, I believe that those like me who can afford to live in Thailand should also consider themselves privileged and lucky. I bet that there are thousands of people in the West that would swap with us in an instant to escape their mundane lives there.

terryp's reply was as accurate a description of thailand as the op's.

@LaoLover88: I think that was a pretty comprehensive summing-up of the subject-matter and I fully agree with you !

Don't take offence to what some posters write here, because they obviously have a 'tunnel-vision' with regards to Thailand.

Heck; the only thing you forgot to mention was that the Sailing is Great here too . . . . . . 555

Cheers,

I've been here 21 year: have a number of VERY good Thai friends - has it ever occurred to you that YOU may be the cause of the "Darkling-Type" talk you are experiencing ? ? ? Grow-up and grow a little backbone, friend ! ! !
