Welcome!

Well I always thought Banglampu, north of Khao San Rd seemed safe. Lots of people from familiar countries to give the feeling of safety from familiarity as you acclimate and get used to, things.

KSR isn't really safe if you get involved in dodgey stuff but I never did and liked to land there first in the past.

Try Bhiman Inn on Phra Sumen Road, one block from Phra Arthit Road.

I would recommend staying away from Khao San Road.

You may want to be somewhere near the BTS to avoid late-night taxis or tuk tuks back to your hotel.

Near the MBK, there's a soi right off of the BTS with several reasonably-priced hotels. My female friends seem to like Wendy House. It's safe, but the rooms are kind of small.

take a look at what other people have to say here:

here's a list of other guesthouses/hotels down that soi (Soi Kasem San)

The Bisiness Inn Sukhumvit Soi11, 600 Baht double, 500 Baht single, air con, private bathroom, TV,

When my wife used to travel from the UK I always booked her in here before she went up country always used this hotel for the past 15 years they even kept some money of mine they found until I came back 3 months later and it was only 100 Baht.

Twenty metres from the main road, lots of people around as it's the main tourist area if they ask you if you've stopped there before say yes and they will give you the lower rate.Sorry I don't have the details with me but you'll find it with a Google search, don't get mixed up with The B :o usiness Grande that they've just opened across the road for 2000 Baht per night.

I second Soi Kasem san 1 as a place to stay. It is non-touristy, no harassing tuk tuks or taxis, nobody trying to sell you anything. However, if you wanted to meet people while travelling, this might be a more difficult location to do so than the Banglamphoo neighborhood.

That street is full of travelers staying in the guesthouses and hotels.

Not as pushy-crowded like Kao San Road, though. I have never understood why people go out of their way to get there.

The Soi 11 recomendation, Business Inn is the way to go. Great street for access to BTS,MRT..

Several good places to stay on that street. Lots of places to eat.

Some nitelife activity around there so if that bothers you the Atlanta on Soi 2 would be better.

Is that the Grand Business Inn near the 7-11?

The rooms there seem fairly nice, the rates are decent. The only downside is there's no safety deposit box in the room (near the front desk).

I don't know about security on the floors, though.

No, the Business Inn just near the President. Cheap and basic, but also used as a short-time place, which might be off-putting for the young lady (I once enquired if they had a room: they said "no", then looked at each other in a funny way, then said "we will have a room in about 20 minutes" :o ) One advantage of soi 11 is there are several places, so if one is full just walk next door...

Atlanta, as mentioned by Skipper, is good for vegetarian food, but a long walk up a dark road if you like to walk - taxi is better. You need to book in advance too.

Never known The Business Inn to be a short time place in all the 14 years I've used it while in Bangkok I've been before and they've told me to come back in an hour but I took that to mean that someone was checking out, as you can stay late check out till 6.30pm for a couple of hundred Baht.
