  1. Am I reading this wrong or what? If it was a police checkpoint, then it is there for a reason. If it is acceptable to let people pass through the checkpoint if that is their want, without being checked then what is the point of having it there in the first place?

I see no problem with what the volunteer did in this instance; he was preventing someone crashing the checkpoint. It is better being kicked off a bike than ending up with half a dozen rounds in your back!

What if, and this is pure speculation, the rider or passenger were carrying weapons or drugs? The same volunteer would be treated as an outstanding officer instead of being in the position now of facing disciplinary action for doing his job because of public opinion.

Just sayin' Look at the picture from both sides.....................thumbsup.gif

How about they set up a good roadblock.. marked and such and make sure it cant be passed. Do it a legal way. Check cars too when they are at it. Not go for motorcycles only like they almost always do because they have no status or protection.

Agree robblok, there is that; I nearly didn't comment earlier because it does give people the excuse to crash the one in the video because it isn't properly defined and the motorcyclist has the excuse that he didn't see it for what it was.

Also agree with the car checks as well, including foreigners; if you are going to do it, do it properly! Funny, I have noticed over the last couple of years that the police here (Phitsanulok) have been doing just that. It seems that the "fear" of seeing a white face when the window has been wound down has diminished.

But, back to the OP; I still don't think the police guy was in the wrong in that he was preventing someone crashing the VCP.

INCLUDING FOREIGNERS? They single out foreigners.
  2. Now the problem is how are they supposed to stop the critters if they're going to be prosecuted for a kick stop........who is the freakin do gooder driving around with a video cam rolling in his windshield anyway?

Well, it would be a start if the coppers only stopped people actually doing something wrong. If I have seen dozens of people with no lights, no helmets, no insurance rounded up, they also have an extremely annoying habit of grabbing everyone irrespective, just for a little donation of course.

    +1
  3. I don't believe that 17 million Thais are 'grossly overweight'. That would be about one in three of the population and you just don't see that. There are obese people here, but nothing compared to most western countries.

1 in 3 is spot on in Rayong province.

I won't say the number is wrong, but the number of just plain fat Thai children has increased exponentionaly in the Pattaya area. IMHO, phones, video games and no exercise would cure most of this for the kids.
  4. The police informed Mr. Steve that foreigners by law are not allowed to own or carry guns in Thailand.

That is misinformation, and wrong. Foreigners CAN own and, can register the gun in Thailand, but can not carry them around. You can own it for your protection in the home or your business.

Yes, but they have to own a business and have a work permit, and also a clear criminal record from thier homecountry.

All gunn licenses is for having the gun at home, if you want to bring it around you will need a special license and in some provinces they not give these at all (like Phuket) !

So, what are you saying, you are right, The reply that I posted says, ( The police are wrong with what they said, BECAUSE a foreigner can buy and own a gun in Thailand)

So your point of the reply is?????

I think his point is your an idiot. Most farangs don't qualify in any way shape of form. By most I mean the 90 to 95 percentile. And yor post seems to emply that everybody should have a gun and be allowed to intimidate any and all persons he deems . I afraid that the BIB carry guns. Pull your head out.

Oh and I'm sorry, 1 in 100 farangs qualify to carry guns if they are on the correct visa and have a work permit.

  6. Golf one day, beach the next day ... NIVARANA!! Pattaya is a Golf Mecca! Could be better, if the caddies could learn basic golf terminology ... I mean after 2 years caddying, one should know just about everything there is to know about golf. The best caddy I ever employed, was a 16 year old Thai Gal, who spoke excellent English. She actually played golf herself and her parents were English Teachers. Unfortunately she only came to the course when they were short staffed.

I completely disagree. I play the cheapest course in Chonburi. The caddies know the course, the greens, and if I listen to them I score well. The only problem is because of its location they don't speak English well. I'm lucky to speak very good golf course Thai. What are you comnplaining about? Your game sucks and so do the caddies. I have played all around the world and most places don't have caddies. You have to play the game yourself, without help.
  7. Land Of Smiles, only if your wallet is out and your doing the smiling.

Miracle Thailand, the only miracle here is that the BIB are the biggest mafia second only to the government. Most of the problems go wawy if people do their jobs instead of looking for the quick buck, or tea money. The true slogan should be, Thailand, land of corruption and police scams.
