Thailand and Indonesia could soon become home for some lucky Aussies

All of Italy will disagree with you on the milk is milk statement. Coffee is almost a religion over there. Also ask my Mum, and will tell you that anything but a flat white is undrinkable. -

C'mon man I've been here long enough to know what you can get for 100 baht, I was just having a laugh. As for the coffee, an espresso is simply a single shot of black coffee from the Italian machine. Well it's actually not that simple to get it perfect but that's another story. All I'll say is if it comes in a takeaway cup and/or doesn't have a nice 'crema' then I'm not interested ???? A flat white is, well that's hard to explain so I'll let Wikipedia do the heavy lifting... https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Flat_white -

No it's not just coffee and milk. The milk needs to be frothed and poured a particular way. It's not a cappuccino without chocolate dusting, nor is it a latte. -

Yes, in Thailand according to Mr Astley. But like I said, flat whites are virtually unheard of here. It's an Aussie/Kiwi invention. -

"I pay less than $2 (here) for a flat white ... I pay about $4 for lunch," Astley said. I call BS on this. You can't get a flat white here because nobody knows what that means. Also $4 is not even 100 baht. What sort of desperate lunch can you get for 100 baht? I guess since he overspent on his house then he can't afford to lunch at La Scala ???? -
I take it you don't use aircon. How do you handle the heat, just grin and bear it until you become acclimatised? Edit: I missed the 'other panel' reference on first read. Carry on ????

Pretty sure that the Channel 9 writers meant that it is cheaper for an Aussie retiree to relocate to Thailand than to relocate within Australia. It's called downsizing - you sell the 3 bedder in a capital city for megabucks and move somewhere cheaper. The problem now is that the good spots up and down the coast are getting just as expensive as the city. -
Rats! 3 days is a bit rough but maybe they're backed up? My first thought was to try Reddit but the only hit I got was an unanswered question from 101 days ago. Maybe raise another ticket and see what happens?

I'm renting but I'll get my condo administration right on it. I'm sure they and all the co-owners will be more than happy to install solar panels for us. Those little things can power 200 apartments, right? ????

You know that the OP is from Australia don't you, and that he's a youngish tourist not a retiree? His "normal" bank card would be issued by an Aussie bank and they charge like wounded bulls. Overseas ATM wdwl fee, 3% currency conversion fee on top of God knows what base rate, it's fair dinkum deadset rediculous mate.

28 Degrees MasterCard is good, assuming of course that you're comfortable becoming a customer of Latitude Financial.

He is in Oz! Or will be soon.

380 baht in fees is robbery, plain and simple. But most Aussies I spoke to on the subject just couldn't be stuffed getting the 28 Degrees MC or the ING Orange. They prefer to use their Qantas travel card or those p.o.s. CommBank travel cards. Or worse, their standard bank-issued debit card which ends up costing them about 20 bucks for an ATM pull.
-
Good point. it's actually a Visa debit card not a MasteCard so it'll use the Visa retail rate. For the life of me I can't remember where to look that up. I'm retired here now so I don't use the card anymore. But when I was travelling before I used the card mostly as a backup to my 28 Degrees MasterCard credit card, which is "fee-free" except for ATM pulls. The ING card was useful if you found yourself in a situation where you need only a small amount of cash, say 5k for your last couple of days, or if you don't want to pull large amounts at a single time. I see they've restricted the ATM fee rebate to 5 per month but that's still a decent number. Imho this card is worth having in your wallet and ING issue them in Australia for free and there's no annual fee to worry about.

Private health insurance in Australia costs a bundle too mate. Unless you want to throw yourself at the mercy of the public system ???? -
Why ain't you using ING Orange Everyday MasterCard? Subject to a few easy to meet requirements they will rebate ATM fees AND they waive the usual 3% currency conversion fee. https://campaigns.ing.com.au/cards

Is it okay to tear the plastic wrapping of matress?
Lemsta69 replied to topswijaya's topic in General Topics
It's a legit question too. Keeping the plastic on appliances and furniture isn't exclusively a Thai think like some posters want to believe. It's even made its way into TV and the movies. If it were me I'd ask the landlord/owner first just in case he's the OCD type. -
Nice work Champ ????

what's the damage on a beer at those places now. Heineken if you don't mind ????
