Its a sad indication of the extreme control they feel the need to exercise over western residents and tourists.
Clearly it needed to be an across the board at least 3 month extension for everyone, to keep people out of immigration offices and avoid travel which may soon become impossible anyway.
I just dont get it and the apparent obstructive difficult jump through hoops attitude reported in some cases why? What do they gain?

First reported case of this virus outside China was ..................Thailand back in January, a Chinese National from Wuhan
Absolutely .....and how long before Thailand took it seriously and how long did they continue to make the Chinese very welcome.
Yet some of the lowest reported initial figures, simply amazing Thailand!

Treating people like criminals. <deleted> is the purpose of all that residential documentation. We're tourists for Christ's sake !!!!
Yes its madness however you package it, a worldwide crisis people scared worried etc, you would expect all visa requirements to be totally relaxed and not obstructive, however it seems we are of a different mindset to the powers that be.......and must remember stating the obvious common sense solutions out of pure frustration could be deemed unsuitable for the readership if too obviously critical of our hosts....mmmm.

Send them an email with the details declining the idea of a personal attendance due to reasons of common sense ,social distancing, travel restrictions and lack of availability of a face mask to wear.
Ask your partner to write it in Thai language, but their may not be a translation to Thai for common sense.

if 3000 foreigners queuing up there everyday, and hardly anyone keeping 2m apart, it would be surprised if everyone safe !
This picture should go to the world press or Facebook viral etc to show just how important immigration due process is to Thai authorities clearly out trumps common sense or health and safety........hoorah team Thailand leading the way protecting tourists, western residents and your own valued government staff!

Does this mean they will finally grant a 3 months for all extension on current permission to stay date without going to immigration.
NO only over their dead bodies or perhaps some of ours will they show such common sense and leniency.
Well the time is perhaps about to arrive for the bureaucracy obsessed maniacs.

Can most thais afford testing and are they inclined to spend their depleted funds on a covid test or basic food for family.
Probably any sick farang is more able to test and if dragged to hospital very unwell will be automatically tested and if not suffering from covid will likely need heart treatment on getting the bill.
Simply a higher number of westerners tested so higher percentage positive and government happy to release all figures on farang covid cases but less forthcoming with Thai figures.

Profiteering on face masks leading to a shortage for Thai people.
Didnt a deputy minister and his cronies lead by example on this one!

Thailand I believe had the most visitors from Wuhan province yet some of the lowest positive rates, if things just dont seem right especially in Thailand they probably arent.
Phuket hierarchy were allegedly holding back results for weeks to protect the income not the people and similar scenario across tourist areas.
Many accounts of medical staff nationwide warned to be cautious about the release of information.
The pattern of release of daily numbers always struck me as odd as a convoluted set of figures for a gradual introduction of the severity of the situation, would like to see exactly where the daily new cases come from.
As for testing, if the people returning now to the provinces are forced to pay a few thousand baht for a test if they have a cough and fever quite common anyway in the villages in 38c heat are they going to rush to a hospital or try and sit it out and spend the funds on feeding the family.? So testing is not widespread yet.
Also this site is censored monitored we are fed what is passed okay to be newsworthy.
knowing what the real head honcho is doing at this time of crisis is quite enlightening, google is your friend but it would never make a news item on here.
Finally my nearest pharmacy can oblige with all manner of drugs,,,,,, but a face mask! still not available, Team Thailands finest seem to struggle with that one!

I hope they do this. Best just close immigration, except for airports, borders and emergencies. Freeze status of everything immigration for present visitors, with no penalties. Start again gently when the situation is better.
Yes a simple common sense approach, but I think Thai officials would see that akin to releasing the leg irons of many thousands of convicts.

Disappointing photo, where is the grinning villain, the 4 machine gun wielding Swat team members and at least 2 guys in Hazmat suits pointing to a pile of 10,000 or so face masks.
Standards are dropping!

Sad thing is they fail to understand how bloody ridiculous the photo looks and nobody advises them.
But guess they dont care same as images of hundreds of westerners at immigration offices forced to do pointless 90 day reports etc when social isolation and only important travel advised.
However if you want a real insight and a laugh have a look at the independent newspaper on line article about how one chap is spending his time attending to his flock of subjects during the world pandemic and worsening crisis here.
Google is an eye opener! A suprise its not banned in Thailand.

Absolutely, Thailand had the highest number of Chinese visitors from Wuhan province and yet some of the lowest reported positives and death figures for months.

Dont worry, immigration will contact you!
The smart BMW fleet will be mobilised nationwide visiting farangs at home to do visa paperwork and bring vital food water and medicine to you and your family.
Hoorah for caring team Thailand!!

If their was a nuclear holocaust ...........Any remaining Thailand immigration offices would still be demanding extensions, 90 day reports. tm 30s, and 800k in the bank!!

Is the 2 meter separation being observed?
Might be difficult for staff to observe that whilst dealing with you. Wear a mask out of courtesy to staff.
However rest assured if you go to a private hospital..... separation from your cash will be guaranteed.
