I'm 68 now. It's a full hour to drive to the IO. I don't live in a city. I'm hoping that by the time I'm 85 onwards, Immigration will have discovered how to use the internet to enable annual visa extensions to be done online. Or, and this is even less likely to happen, I'm hoping that Immigration will decide to extend the marriage visa for more than one year at a time. I like to dream of impossible things.

I realise that the government needs tax money to develop the coun try. But ... it is a common belief that there is a 35% Rule. The rule states that 35% of the National Budget disappears in corruption. That equals over one trillion Baht per year. If political corruption could be reduced by even only 35%, there would be more than enough money in the national coffers.

Just my opinion since my wife and I treat and prevent ailments with natural foods. I realise that you might reject the premise that foods prevent and cure medical problems, but Google search "how to treat varicose vein problems with food". It's a shame to spend so much money when the cause of the problem might be what you eat and your lifestyle.

I'm happy to buy cheap items from Lazada, but not a laptop. It will probably come from China, and I don't want one from there.

5 years in a Thai prison! ... The thought is enough to make me stay a good boy. -
Phuket Adventure Ends Badly for Bag-Snatching Aussies
renaissanc replied to snoop1130's topic in Phuket News
Message to Foreigners: Before committing a crime read the books about life in a Thai prison, look at the photographs of prison and Immigration detention cells, and also watch the videos about them. You may then decide to change your mind about what you have planned. -
Russian Tourist's Pattaya Adventure Sours with Luggage Theft
renaissanc replied to snoop1130's topic in Pattaya News
Pattaya isn't a good place to go for a holiday unless you want a prostitute and lots of alcohol. If ordinary thieves don't rob you, the katoeys or the bar girls will. High prices and overcharging abound. -
Ex-Thai Actress Accuses British Husband of Fraud and Infidelity
renaissanc replied to snoop1130's topic in Thailand News
I don't think karma is a concept familiar to westerners generally. Certainly, Ian has no understanding of it because if he did he would know that bad things are going to happen to him as a result of swindling his (ex-)wife. He should repay the money as best he can and apologize. -
Bored of Bangkok... Any advice to an alternative place to live?
renaissanc replied to kingofallasians's topic in Bangkok
In my opinion, you would become happy by spending time alone in nature for a few months. You seem to have lost the connection with your true self, with your true nature. Human beings are spiritual beings, not material beings. You'll never find true happiness with beer bars, nightclubs, bar girls, sex, money, and materialism. When you discover your spiritual self, you'll discover happiness. Until then, you'll simply be wandering from one thing to another in pursuit of happiness when ironically is to be found inside you and closer than your life's vein. ... If you want unconditional love in abundance, look after two rescued cats. I have 26. ... I wish you happiness! -
Foreigners Face New Hurdles in Opening Thai Bank Accounts
renaissanc replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
I remember this problem in the 1980s when you couldn't get a work permit without a long-term visa or a long-term one without a work permit. In practice, the officials at the Songkhla Labour Department just worked around the stupidity. -
More Thais Staying Single, Impact on Weddings and Florists
renaissanc replied to snoop1130's topic in Thailand News
Firstly, the dowry is a major obstacle. I married an orphan, so this wasn't a factor. (Not a bar girl, by the way, but a factory worker.) Secondly, the cost of decent education is a looming problem for couples. International school fees are already prohibitive. Lastly, I have been lucky to find a pure gem of a wife who enjoys the simple things of life and doesn't want the material life that city women desire so much. -
Thailand Debates Costly Move to Relocate Capital from Bangkok
renaissanc replied to snoop1130's topic in Thailand News
My daughter has just backed out of a pool villa housing project in Hua Hin. The project increased the house's price by 500,000 baht at the contract-signing stage. We said "No, thank you. Bye, bye!" -
You have completely, utterly, and 100% missed his point.

The criminal obviously won't return to Thailand, but he might go to other S.E. Asian countries, not knowing that there may be extradition agreements around the region that will bring him back to Thailand. One way or another, karma will catch up with him either in this world or the next. Good luck, criminal!

British man’s Thailand trip goes from heaven to prison hell (video)
renaissanc replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
If you can't speak Thai here, it's easy to have problems. If this happened to me, I'd tell the Police and the others that they'll be appear on Channel 3 midday news with Num f they don't sort this out fairly znd quickly. -
Couple Shocked as Pet Dogs Bring Home 400 Meth Pills

I wouldn't have told the Police in case they arrested me for drug possession. I'd have disposed of the drugs. I don't trust the Police to understand. -
It's cold there now. I hope you like the cold. Just try to enjoy every minute. The Chinese people are friendly and there's a lot of beautiful scenery. Hopefully, the trip will include that more than shopping malls. Show the people compassion as life is hard for them. I wouldn't risk going to China as I've been too critical of the CCP online, and they've threatened to arrest people like me. I've backpacked around China before. It was tiring, but certainly worthwhile.

British woman jailed after collecting debt from Thai millionaire

In Thailand, you must get collateral in advance or a downpayment. The woman didn't know this. -
British woman jailed after collecting debt from Thai millionaire
renaissanc replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
As usual here, posters reflexively attack the victim. Empathy is a foreign virtue to so many people. We all know what the Thai Police are like, especially when they have been bribed. Thais complain about this regularly on Thai News programmes. ... I see that the British Embassy in Bangkok did its best to maintain its decades-long reputation of being useless when a British citizen has a problem. The people there need to develop compassion. I suppose they were reluctant to leave their cocktail parties to help her.- 159 replies

Thais Reject Casino Complex and Online Betting Plans Poll Shows
renaissanc replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
The plans will still go ahead because Thaksin & his cronies will earn a fortune from the agreed-upon kickbacks. He has many years of missed kickbacks to make up for. Household debt and family unhappiness will increase as will crime, but kickbacks are more important to them.
