Over 100 young people came together for the Green to Go Summit to brainstorm sustainable solutions for Thailand’s imminent environmental challenges. Interactive discussions were held around the topics of low-carbon cities, emerging energy technologies, and debunking plastic recycling myths. Organised by the Green Youth Thailand, the event was held as part of the annual EU Green Diplomacy Weeks in ASEAN 2024. The EU Green Diplomacy Week is one of the EU’s global campaigns to promote cooperation on climate change and inspire meaningful action. This annual event has evolved into a significant occasion where the EU and its Member States host a series of events worldwide, fostering dialogue and collaboration on climate issues. These events serve as a platform to showcase successful sustainability initiatives and motivate further green actions, as confirmed by Opall Benyapa Achariyakroon, Green Youth Thailand. “The foundation of climate action lies in raising awareness and engaging individuals through capacity building, empowering them to become change agents in their communities. As we move forward together, we can all envision a better tomorrow." Founded in 2022, Green Youth Thailand is a youth-led environmental organisation with a mission to empower youth to take practical climate actions through creative media and initiatives. One participant, Evarin Rattanapariyanuch shared valuable insights from working with like-minded people. “Attending this event broadened my perspective, showing that the challenges we face go beyond local issues and are impacting the entire ASEAN region. I gained valuable insights and connected with like-minded people. Alone, I might feel limited, but as part of a network, I believe we can make a real difference.” Foreign Relations Officer, Ministry of Interior, Doctor Rattikarn Khambud focused on the future implications of the event, and for sustainability in Thailand as a whole. “I envision a future where our country embraces an environmentally friendly, low-carbon city model, focused on climate change mitigation and adaptation. This includes creating more recreational areas, expanding open spaces, and strengthening the blue-green linkages of nature for future generations. Working together with youth communities will be the key to building a sustainable future.” The EU Ambassador to ASEAN, H.E. Sujiro Seam, sees the event as successful in motivating communities to take stronger actions to protect our environment. "The European Union is committed to supporting our partners in their respective green transitions, including ASEAN Member States, “This event shows our commitment to continue working together with ASEAN towards a greener sustainable and inclusive future. It is an opportunity to encourage and motivate individuals, communities and organisations to take stronger actions – to protect, preserve and restore our environment, for now and for future generations.” Press release

1a66551ba35d4c0b357a8d6e158f9992.mp4 President Joe Biden’s pardon of his son Hunter deepened an entanglement of politics and the rule of law that has tarnished faith in American justice and is almost certain to worsen in Donald Trump’s second term. Now, weeks before he leaves the White House, Biden has wielded presidential power to absolve his son ahead of sentencings later this month over a pair of gun and tax convictions that emerged from the due process of law. His decision came days after special counsel Jack Smith moved to dismiss the federal cases against Trump — over election interference and the hoarding of classified documents — on the grounds that presidents can’t be prosecuted. If you’re in Bangkok and want an affordable, tasty meal with plenty of variety, head to the food court at Terminal 21 Asoke. It’s located in the city’s heart, it’s more than just a dining spot, it’s an experience that combines delicious food, good prices, and a unique atmosphere. Easy to get to from anywhere in Bangkok Terminal 21 Asoke is in one of Bangkok’s busiest areas, Asoke, a major transportation hub. Whether you’re hopping off the BTS Skytrain at Asoke station, transferring from the MRT at Sukhumvit station, or arriving via the Airport Rail Link, getting here is super easy. Its central location makes it ideal for anyone looking for a quick, satisfying meal before diving back into Bangkok’s bustling attractions. The food court is open daily from 10am to 10pm. While it gets busiest during lunch and dinner hours, visiting during off-peak times gives you a quieter, more relaxed experience. Why the food is so cheap? Here’s what makes the Terminal 21 food court stand out: you can find dishes starting as low as 20 to 30 baht. In central Bangkok, you can barely find these prices for food anywhere else. In fact, you can easily manage to get up to 4 or 5 dishes within 200 baht, something that would typically only cover one dish elsewhere in the same area. The secret to these low prices lies in the mall owner Anant Asavabhokhin’s vision. Vendors here don’t pay rent. Instead, they must meet strict quality standards, ensuring that every dish is fresh, delicious, and affordable. This rent-free model keeps costs down while maintaining high-quality food, making Terminal 21 Asoke’s food court one of the best-value options in the city. PHOTO: via Pier 21 Food Court Terminal 21 Facebook page What to eat: must-try dishes With so many options, it can be hard to know where to start. For classic Thai dishes, you can try the Pad Thai or Pad Ka Phrao (holy basil stir-fry). If you’re in the mood for something sweet, mango sticky rice is always a favourite amongst anyone in Thailand. Feeling more adventurous? You have the choice to also try more regional Thai dishes like Kanom Jeen Nam Ya (fermented rice noodles in curry) or spicy Som Tam (papaya salad). Although if you are tried of Thai food, you can also find Japanese, Chinese, or even Western food as well. How to pay for food Paying at Terminal 21 Asoke’s food court is simple and flexible. The primary method is through a prepaid card system. You’ll need to load credit onto a card at the cashier counter before ordering food. Any unused balance can be refunded at the same counter before you leave. Recently, they’ve made things even easier by accepting QR code payments. If you use mobile banking, you can skip the card and scan a QR code directly at many stalls. This is especially handy if you prefer going cashless or forgot to load enough credit on your prepaid card. These options ensure you can focus on enjoying your meal without worrying about payment hassles. How about the atmosphere? The atmosphere here is also unique. Terminal 21 Asoke is all about its international airport vibe, with floors inspired by cities like Tokyo and London. But the food court is a whole different mood. Sitting on the top floor, it’s decked out like a pier, complete with cute sailor-themed decor. The vibe at Terminal 21 Asoke’s food court is unique. While the rest of the mall channels an international airport theme with floors inspired by cities like Tokyo and London, the food court stands out with its cosy pier-inspired decor. Think sailor-themed designs, warm lighting, and a laid-back ambience that makes dining here a pleasant experience. A smart marketing strategy You might wonder how the mall profits if the food court doesn’t charge rent. The answer is simple. Once you’re done eating, you’ll need to pass through other levels of the mall to leave. This layout encourages you to explore the shops below, driving profits from the shopping section. Especially on the first level, where people come in and go out, you’ll often find booths set up selling a variety of goods. At different times, you might even stumble upon a food market, where some of Bangkok’s most popular food vendors set up shop. The variety and tempting aromas are hard to resist, the food looks and smells so delicious, so it’s almost impossible not to stop and check it out. Many people end up staying here for a while, whether they’re just arriving or about to leave the mall. So, it’s a win-win situation; you enjoy affordable food, and the mall benefits from increased foot traffic in its retail sections. Why you’ll love it The Terminal 21 Asoke food court isn’t just about grabbing a meal, it’s a food lover’s paradise right in the heart of Bangkok. Its location makes it a hub for everyone, whether you’re hopping off the BTS, MRT, or Airport Rail Link. Plus, it’s just a short walk from Benjakiti Park, making it the perfect pit stop after a stroll. Here, you’ll find authentic Thai flavours and international favourites without breaking the bank. Whether it’s a fiery Pad Ka Phrao, a sweet serving of mango sticky rice, or even a Japanese bento box, there’s something for every dish and budget. The next time you’re in Bangkok, give it a try. You’ll leave satisfied, with a full belly and maybe even a few shopping bags in hand!

Car insurance is important for drivers in Thailand. However, even most insurance packages including comprehensive Type 1 insurance have exclusions that could lead to claim denials. Understanding why car insurance claims are denied can help you avoid surprises and protect yourself better. This article explains the common reasons claims are rejected and how to handle a rejection. What is Type 1 car insurance in Thailand? Image via interstid from Canva Type 1 car insurance in Thailand is the most comprehensive option, offering protection against accidents, theft, fire, and natural disasters. It also covers third-party liability for injuries and property damage, medical costs for passengers, personal accident compensation, and roadside assistance. While Type 1 insurance offers extensive protection, it’s important to note that coverage limits and specific terms can vary between insurers. What is not covered by Type 1 car insurance? Image via freedomz from Canva Type 1 car insurance offers broad coverage, but it doesn’t protect against everything. Understanding these exclusions is important to avoid surprises when filing a claim. 1. Driving beyond the coverage area Driving outside your car insurance coverage area can leave you fully liable for damages. For example, if your Type 1 car insurance only covers Thailand and you have an accident abroad, the insurer won’t pay for repairs or liabilities. Knowing your policy’s geographical limits is essential to avoid unexpected costs and denied claims. 2. Engaging in racing activities Racing or reckless driving can void your car insurance, leaving you responsible for all damages. Most policies exclude coverage for accidents during high-risk activities like racing, as these actions increase the chance of damage. Safe driving is essential to keep your insurance valid. 3. Commercial use of personal vehicles Using a personal car for business activities, such as delivering goods or transporting passengers for a fee, can void your car insurance. If an accident happens during commercial use, your insurer may deny coverage, leaving you to cover all costs. Understanding your policy’s terms is key to avoiding unexpected expenses. 4. Driving under the influence Car insurance claims are often denied if the driver is under the influence of alcohol or drugs during an accident. Most policies exclude coverage in these situations, and it’s also a serious legal offence. For drivers in Thailand: Drivers under 20 or with a temporary license (less than two years old): Blood alcohol limit is 20 mg%. Drivers over 20 with a lifetime license or 5-year license: Blood alcohol limit is 50 mg%. Exceeding these limits can result in fines, legal trouble, and denied insurance claims, leaving you responsible for all costs. Staying within the legal limits is essential to protect your safety and coverage. 5. Lack of a valid driver’s license Insurance claims are often denied if the driver doesn’t have a valid license at the time of an accident. A valid license is essential for coverage, and without it, the driver must cover all costs. Keeping your license up to date is key to ensuring your insurance remains valid. 6. Damage during towing Damage to your car during towing is often not covered by standard insurance unless you have added towing coverage. Even comprehensive policies usually exclude this, leaving you responsible for repair costs. Adding towing coverage can protect you from unexpected expenses during breakdowns. 7. Nuclear incident damage Car insurance does not cover damage caused by nuclear incidents, such as accidents at nuclear plants or radioactive exposure. This exclusion is standard across most policies, leaving policyholders responsible for repair costs in such rare events. Understanding this limitation is essential to know what your coverage includes. 8. War-related damages Car insurance usually doesn’t cover damage from war, political unrest, or military actions, such as bullet holes or bomb blasts. While Type 1 insurance covers fire damage, it excludes fires caused by riots or civil unrest, leaving repair costs to the owner. Knowing these exclusions helps you understand your policy and avoid financial surprises during conflict-related incidents. 9. Involvement in illegal activities If your car is used for illegal activities, like fleeing a crime scene, your insurance won’t cover any damages. Engaging in unlawful activities voids your coverage, regardless of the type of insurance you have. This means that if your car is damaged while involved in illegal acts, you will be fully responsible for the repair costs. Staying within the law is key to keeping your insurance valid. Quick summary of the exclusions Reason for exclusion Description 1. Driving beyond the coverage area Accidents outside the designated area are not covered, leaving you liable for damages. 2. Engaging in racing activities Racing or reckless driving voids your insurance and coverage for damages. 3. Commercial use of personal vehicles Using a personal vehicle for business can lead to denied claims in case of an accident. 4. Driving under the influence Claims are denied if the driver is under the influence of alcohol or drugs during an accident. 5. Lack of a valid driver’s license Claims may be rejected if the driver does not have a valid license at the time of the accident. 6. Damage during towing Damage while towing is usually not covered unless additional towing coverage is purchased. 7. Nuclear incident damage Damages from nuclear incidents are excluded from coverage in most policies. 8. War-related damages Damage from war, political unrest, or military actions is generally not covered. 9. Involvement in illegal activities Insurance does not cover damages if the vehicle is used for illegal activities, such as fleeing a crime scene. Steps to take if your claim is denied Image via Dmytro Skrypnykov from Getty Images If your insurance claim is denied, follow these concise steps to address the situation effectively. Examine the denial letter: Carefully review the denial letter from your insurer to understand the specific reasons for the rejection, as this will guide your next steps. Gather documentation: Gather all relevant documents, including your insurance policy, claim forms, and accident reports, to strengthen your case for an appeal. Communicate with your insurer: Reach out to your insurance company to discuss the denial; direct communication can often clarify misunderstandings and provide additional insight into the decision. File an appeal: If you believe your claim was unjustly denied, submit a formal appeal letter outlining your reasons and including supporting evidence to request a reconsideration of the decision. Car insurance is essential for drivers, but it’s important to understand what it does and doesn’t cover to avoid unexpected costs. Knowing exclusions like driving outside the coverage area, reckless driving, or using your car for business can help prevent claim denials. Being aware of these limitations helps drivers avoid costly surprises and better understand how to maintain their coverage. At the same time, saving on premiums is also important. For those looking to reduce their car insurance costs, check out these 5 tips to get discounts when buying car insurance in Thailand.

Wondering if you can drink the tap water in Thailand? From brushing your teeth to filling up a bottle, it’s helpful to understand a few basics. Tap water safety in Thailand varies by location, and while some people use it without issue, others avoid it completely. Here’s a guide on what’s safe, what’s not. Bangkok's tap water cleanness The journey of Bangkok’s tap water starts with the Chao Phraya River and other sources. The Metropolitan Waterworks Authority (MWA) treats it according to WHO guidelines, so technically, it leaves the plant clean and safe. But the real issue can be in the journey from the plant to your tap. Pipes in some areas, especially older neighbourhoods, can be a bit risky. For instance, a recent incident in Bangkok’s Lat Phrao district highlighted the risks of older pipes and contamination. In this case, water in a condo’s tank got polluted with bacteria and chemicals, leaving residents at risk. Cases like this are a reminder of why many locals and expats rely on bottled or filtered water instead of drinking straight from the tap. Is it okay to drink the tap water in Thailand after boiling? Boiling tap water in Thailand can reduce some risks, as it kills bacteria and other pathogens. But if the water contains heavy metals, chemicals, or other toxins (which sometimes sneak in through old pipes), boiling won’t remove these contaminants. As a safe option, many locals and expats use water filters for extra protection or rely on bottled water. Can you use tap water for brushing teeth in Thailand? Yes, you can brush your teeth with tap water in Thailand, and many people do it. The amount of water you swallow while brushing is small, so it’s unlikely to cause health issues. The MWA does treat the water to be generally safe for non-drinking purposes. Just avoid swallowing it, and use bottled or filtered water if you want to be extra careful. Drinking tap water in other places of Thailand When you’re at Bangkok’s main airports, Suvarnabhumi or Don Mueang, you’ll find drinking water stations with filtered water, which are safe to use. Many people refill bottles here without issue. However, outside the airport, it’s safest to stick with bottled water. Most hotels in Thailand provide complimentary bottled water for guests, and while you can use tap water for brushing or boiling, it’s best to avoid drinking it straight from the tap. In more touristy areas like Phuket or Pattaya, the story’s the same: it is generally safe for things like brushing teeth, but not recommended for drinking unless filtered. On islands like Koh Samui, where water often has to travel farther and faces storage challenges, it’s especially wise to avoid drinking straight from the tap. Are there fluoride or chlorine in tap water of Thailand? Thailand’s tap water usually contains chlorine to kill bacteria, which is why you might notice a slight chlorine taste. For most people, this isn’t harmful in small amounts and is safe for brushing or showering. However, if you’re particularly sensitive, a filter that reduces chlorine might help. Fluoride, on the other hand, isn’t commonly added to Thai water. If you’re concerned about your dental health, especially for long-term expats, consider fluoridated toothpaste or other fluoride sources. Should I use water filter for more safety? Many locals and expats prefer using a water filter to be on the safe side, especially if they’re regularly using tap water for cooking or filling up bottles. Filters come in different types, from simple carbon filters to more advanced systems like reverse osmosis, which removes a wide range of contaminants, including chlorine, heavy metals, and microplastics. If you’re planning to stay in Thailand long-term, a filter could be a good investment to reduce both cost and plastic waste from bottled water. The general rule of thumb is to avoid drinking tap water directly in Thailand unless you’ve taken steps to ensure its safety, like boiling or filtering. Bottled water remains the safest choice and is widely available and affordable. Whether you’re in Bangkok, Phuket, or Koh Samui, knowing the ins and outs of water safety can help you stay healthy while enjoying all Thailand has to offer. Questions asked about tap water in Thailand Is tap water safe to drink in Phuket? Similar to Bangkok, while Phuket's tap water meets treatment standards, many locals and tourists choose bottled or filtered options due to concerns about infrastructure and potential contamination. Can you drink tap water in Pattaya? Tap water in Pattaya is also treated but may not be considered safe for drinking without boiling or filtering first; bottled or filtered water is recommended instead. Can you drink hotel tap water Thailand? The safety of hotel tap water varies by establishment; some hotels may have their own filtration systems. It's advisable to check with hotel staff regarding the safety of their tap water.

If you’ve spent time in Thailand, you’ve probably seen yadom or those small, refreshing inhalers. They’re everywhere: taxis, offices, schools, even at cafes. But while they’re common here, yadom is a curiosity for expats. Let’s dive into the details, from its cultural role to clever uses you may not know about. Cultural significance of Yadom in Thailand Yadom isn’t just a remedy, it’s practically a lifestyle item. Many people carry it as a daily essential, especially in crowded, stuffy places. You’ll see people sharing yadom with friends or coworkers. It’s even included in care packages for soldiers or healthcare workers. Yadom offers a small, refreshing break in a busy day, and in a way, it’s become part of the local rhythm of life. Even celebrities are in on it! Global icons like Lisa from BLACKPINK and Chris Hemsworth are known to carry yadom as a daily essential. For locals, this just adds to yadom’s cultural charm, connecting the everyday experience of Thai life to the broader world. The student ‘secret weapon’ during exams Thai students are especially known for using yadom, especially around exam time. For them, it’s like a secret weapon to stay alert. During long study sessions, many students reach for yadom as a way to refocus and relieve stress. It’s a quick fix to help them wake up and stay energised. Some even bring it into exams, giving themselves a little boost in concentration when needed. The Yadom life hack most people don’t know Here’s a yadom trick that not everyone knows about. Some inhaler sticks have a base that can be removed. When you unscrew it, you can use the scented bottom part to dab on your skin, which provides a similar refreshing effect. It’s also helpful for mild pain relief if you’re feeling a bit tired or tense. Another hack: Yadom often has a small sponge stick inside that holds the scent. When the scent fades, you can refill it by adding a bit of liquid inhalant. This trick can save you from buying new yadom sticks often, so it’s a handy tip for daily users. Unique uses of Yadom beyond clearing noses People in Thailand use Yadom for more than just a blocked nose. Many use it as a way to stay alert or relieve stress. For instance, when commuting on a crowded train, a quick sniff of yadom can make the experience more bearable. In recent years, Yadom has also become a way to deal with air pollution. During the burning season in Northern Thailand, when pollution is high, locals find yadom useful for coping with stuffy air. The menthol gives a cooling, refreshing effect, which doesn’t purify the air but can make breathing feel a bit easier. Interesting varieties of Yadom Not all Y adom is the same. While the classic menthol scent is popular, there are many other options to try. Some brands add herbal mixes with scents like eucalyptus, peppermint, or even lavender for a milder, calming effect. You can also find yadom with creative designs, making it a fun item to carry around. Some brands package it in unique, stylish bottles that add a bit of personality. If you want to try a lighter option, look for yadom with softer scents like lemon or lavender, which can be more comfortable for sensitive noses. Yadom as a unique Thai souvenir Yadom makes a great souvenir for those wanting to take a piece of Thailand home. It’s affordable, easy to carry, and has a bit of local charm. You can find it at any convenience store, often for less than a dollar. Many expats like to gift yadom to friends as a quirky Thai memento. When choosing a yadom as a gift, look for interesting scents or fun packaging that adds to the experience. Embracing yadom as part of the Thai experience Using yadom is one of those ‘only in Thailand’ experiences that can give you a small taste of local culture. It’s simple, effective, and a staple of Thai daily life. Whether you’re new to yadom or already love it, it’s a little item that offers a refreshing break in the heat and hustle of Thailand. And who knows, with all these tips, you might just become a yadom pro in no time. So, how do you use yadom? Now that you know all these interesting facts, it’s your turn! The world gets a first look inside a resplendent new Notre-Dame on Friday, as France's President Emmanuel Macron conducts a televised tour to mark the cathedral's imminent re-opening. Five-and-a-half years after the devastating fire of 2019, Paris's Gothic jewel has been rescued, renovated and refurbished - offering visitors what promises to be a breathtaking visual treat. The president - accompanied by his wife Brigitte and Archbishop of Paris Laurent Ulrich - are kicking off a programme of ceremonies that culminates with an official "entry" into the cathedral on 7 December and the first Catholic Mass the next day. After being shown highlights of the building’s €700m (£582m) renovation - including the massive roof timbers that replace the medieval frame consumed in the fire - he will give a speech of thanks to around 1,300 craftsmen and women gathered in the nave. Notre-Dame's re-vamped interior has been kept a closely-guarded secret - with only a few images released over the years marking the progress of the renovation work. But people who have been inside recently say the experience is awe-inspiring, the cathedral lifted by a new clarity and brightness that mark a sharp contrast with the pervading gloom of before.
