ID.me login problem. Account suspend, but it's not
gamb00ler replied to Galong's topic in US & Canada Topics and Events
The login.gov login is for my wife. My memory is no longer consistent enough to say for sure, but I think she signed up after we moved to Thailand and before we set up an UltraMobile PayGo number. We may have only had Google Voice. -
ID.me login problem. Account suspend, but it's not

Of those two options I find login.gov is faster. Often ID.me ignores my mouse clicks, requiring me to click several times. -
ID.me login problem. Account suspend, but it's not

Before the gov't forced SSA.GOV users to switch to login.gov or ID.me, I used an email/password combo and 2FA was done via an email or SMS. I chose ID.me and set it up more than a year ago. A few days ago, I tried my original SSA sign on method and it still works. Have you tried the old login method for SSA? I never use a VPN for access unless I can't get access without it. So far only a Canadian bank forces me to use it. -
US Halts Military Aid to Ukraine Amid Push for Peace Talks
gamb00ler replied to Social Media's topic in World News
Not being an American, I've had no previous exposure to the details of the Marshall Pan. Wikipedia consistently portrays the Marshall Plan funds as grants... not loans. However, only Germany was required to repay 1Bn which was deeply discounted from what they actually received. That Wiki article does say that US spent/loaned 14Bn to support Europe before the start of the Marshall Plan. Do you have a link to support your view that the Marshall Plan funds were loans? -

I think that unlicensed gambling is illegal. Only the state run lottery has a license. -
as usual you make the worst possible assumption about a post from someone who doesn't share your idealogical bent. The post you quoted does NOT say or even imply the meaning you assigned to it.

Thailand Drops 50 Million Baht Account Rule for Casino Entry
gamb00ler replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
You can even win the Thai lottery. The maid we had in our rental house before we moved, actually won 6M in a recent local lottery. I'm very happy for her because she was a kind and hard working Burmese lady supporting her family. -
The Trump supporters with a tiny bit more brainpower than most are in a rush to get things changed because they know that the voters are going to rebel and the GOP will lose both the house and the Senate in the midterms.

I'm not convinced that any world news agencies were wasting money having reporters outside your doorstep just waiting for your pronouncement on Zelensky's future.

Retirement extension
gamb00ler replied to Badrabbit's topic in Thai Visas, Residency, and Work Permits
I was in a similar situation prior to my last extension. The difference was that I was using an 'income letter' rather than actual transfers. Due to the strong Thai ฿ and an erroneus reduction in my pension, I fell below the 65K benchmark. I was lucky as I also qualified for a marriage extension which was my backup plan. I had the extra documentation for that method prepared as well. My income was only about 2500 ฿ short of the 65K/month. I decided that I would ask CM Immigration if they would accept my ~100K ฿ bank balance together with the income letter for an extension. They did but asked for a 12 month bank statement instead of the 3 month version I had already prepared. Now there's a good news/bad news situation. They fixed my pension amount but Canada no longer provides the income letter. The slackers at the Embassy/Consulate aren't getting my 1250 ฿ for the letter any more. 555 -
US Charles Schwab Residency?
gamb00ler replied to BKKKevin's topic in Jobs, Economy, Banking, Business, Investments
I switched careers away from IT in 1995 so in terms of early access to new technology.... I had none. GV wasn't available to me until it was opened up to all gmail account holders without an invitation. -
US Charles Schwab Residency?
gamb00ler replied to BKKKevin's topic in Jobs, Economy, Banking, Business, Investments
I currently still have my US based Schwab account. When I shop for a CD I do see some that are unavailable to foreign residents. Probably that restriction is enforced by the CD issuers. -
Call the Bangkok bank support line (1333). You will be able to speak with a representative in English. The staff there are much more informed than a lot of the branches. If you get pushback at a branch tell them you've called their support line and confirmed that what you wish is possible. Ask them to call their support line. To facilitate my conversation with Thai employees I often prepare notes in English that I then translate to Thai with a good quality translation website (Voilà is one). Keep your English sentences simple as best you can.

It wasn't easy to find the brand of the authenticator I use. I use the Google authenticator in the form of a Chrome extension. That extension does work in my Brave browser.
