  1. This is a great honeypot thread! Facts vs fantasy at its finest. I've learned a lot about unsound debate tactics. Many of the questionable tactics are described here: https://www.indeed.com/career-advice/career-development/logical-fallacies My future reading on AN will be much more enjoyable after the hopelessly misinformed self-identified herein are relegated to the round file. Thank you one and all for one of the most useful AN threads.
  2. Congratulations.... I think you found the worst method to send money to Thailand! Send US$ to Thailand and the Thai bank will give you a better rate than a US based would. Ask all the US financial institutions you utilize if they can send funds to Thailand without the use of an intermediary. If none can do so, find a new US bank that can. Charles Schwab charges $25 and doesn't need an intermediary bank. There are other advantages to using Schwab. All Thai banks charge 100฿ to 500฿ max. to receive an inbound SWIFT transfer. Last time I checked Wise was better than using SWIFT if you are sending less than about 21,000 US$. Above that amount and SWIFT was generally better.
  3. Most of those who would have died but for the vaccines absolutely see the obvious.
  4. You had repeated COVID antibody tests that were negative? Many people had it but had zero symptoms and only found out via antibody tests. How are you sure that you never had it?
  5. Sorry to resurrect an old thread. That item is still available on Lazada and I was wondering if you recommend it 2 years on. Thanks.
  6. Prior to this I've done 23 (I counted them!) cash advances at 4 different BKK bank branches, 3 of them in CM malls. I never had an issue before other than the clerk hit the wrong button once on the machine and the transaction was rejected. The bank employee's explanation of the rejection seems to be somewhat reasonable. The clerk who actually served me said they never do a cash advance on debit cards and send the customer to the ATM and it works there because "the ATM works faster or something"... LOL.
  7. UPDATE: I was surprised today when I went to do a teller cash advance using my USA debit card at Bangkok bank. They said they cannot do a cash advance on debit cards, only on credit cards. I told them I've done it many times and showed them the slips from the last one in June. Still no dice! I asked them to call their telephone help line and they did so while I waited. The customer service rep told me that this particular BKK bank branch (Hang Dong Big C mall) doesn't have a manager on duty so they cannot offer the cash advance on foreign debit cards. By this time, I couldn't make it to a bigger branch before it closed. If you're refused ask them to direct you to the closest branch that has a manager on duty.
  8. I should have read this before buying 5 Karats for our multi-generation household. The Karats flush fine but perhaps a little more swirling action to prevent the building up of stains (minerals?) from the poor quality community water. https://toiletfound.com/best-flushing-toilet-criteria/
  9. I have seen rotisserie chicken in Big C in Hang Dong. All I remember about the price is that it didn't seem unreasonable.
  10. Like all human endeavors, "science" began with very few facts but was driven by human curiosity. Slowly, the human race has collected a huge store of scientific knowledge. Climate science didn't begin any differently, so many initial analysis were off the mark and even dead wrong. Are you one of those that don't really understand how humans are continually refining their "scientific" description of how the physical world works? Are you trapped in the '70's?
  11. How does that explain an overall rise in the CO₂ percentage of the atmosphere when averaged over all days and seasons?
  12. The kindest analysis of your post would be that you didn't lie (AFAIK). You also didn't offer any analysis bundling your mostly unrelated facts into a cogent rebuttal of .... well anything. Thankfully you are of course entitled to an opinion. However when engaging in a discussion of the relative value of opinions, facts and logic must be brought to bear. You offer no logical refutation of the impact of rising CO₂ on Earth's climate. You are of course entitled to an opinion. However when engaged in a discussion on the relative merits of differing opinions, facts and logict must be brought to bear.
  13. Many times I have used the numbers given on the quoted web page to calculate exactly how many ฿ to request at the teller window to generate a withdrawal of exactly the amount of US$ will be deducted from my Schwab balance. The number given is the rate of exchange that Schwab will use when your transaction is processed a few days later. Just remember to set the fee percentage to zero, set the from currency to THB and the to currency to USD. For today, you will get 35.220035 baht per $.
  14. Here you go: https://usa.visa.com/support/consumer/travel-support/exchange-rate-calculator.html?amount=1000&fee=0.0&utcConvertedDate=&exchangedate=01%2F03%2F2022&fromCurr=USD&toCurr=THB&submitButton= I think they set the rate about 7AM daily on Tue thru Sat.
  15. I'm confused why SWIFT is involved. As far as I know Wise does not transfer any funds using SWIFT. I'm guessing you are referring to a transfer using normal Wise transfer and funding it with funds held in US$ in a Wise multi-currency account. I think it matters not wether you do the exchange separately or as part of a transfer transaction. I believe the exchange rate that Wise has set at the time of the conversion or transfer will be used. Wise only has a single exchange rate (for currency pairs) and uses it for conversions and transfers.
  16. I have 11kW of panels feeding into a 10kW inverter (SMILE-T10-HV-INV). The software they have provided shows how much power the panels are pumping into the house load and/or batteries. When the batteries are full and the house load is low, the software only displays the amount of solar production that is being used. I cannot see what the current maximum solar production could be. I know some of the potential output is discarded because no place to expend it. Is there a way to see the maximum panel output that is possible under the current conditions? I can think of a few low priority power expenditures that I could use to increase the current load and consume the power that is currently being discarded. IE time shifting consumption.
  17. Did I mention I'm a part time soothsayer? I can see you getting an answer along the lines of: because I like outliers and I really want this one to be right because it just feels right did I mention that I want this outlier to be right
  18. Apparently you've never heard of rhetorical questions. I seriously doubt that another opportunity to understand why others have issues with Manila will change your views and prompt you to make a useful contribution.
  19. I gave plenty of details in my posts about issues with Manila..... and you're still not sure... hmmmm. Would you like to read all the emails between Manila and I?
  20. You must have accidentally included some irrelevant text in your post (which has been removed). That text was about marketing products and nothing to do with motorcycles. The last part of your post was about the topic at hand. The moderators removed your post, so now you can only see the text that I quoted in my "eh?" post. Sorry for any confusion. ????
  21. You can check for yourself. MasterCard and Visa both set their exchange rate each business day early in the morning in Thai time zone. Their rates are published on publicly accessible web pages. I only have checked the Visa/MasterCard rates for the US$/TH. Their rates are normally within 10 satang per $ of the Thai bank's rates. https://www.mastercard.us/en-us/personal/get-support/convert-currency.html https://usa.visa.com/support/consumer/travel-support/exchange-rate-calculator.html?amount=1000&fee=0.0&utcConvertedDate=&exchangedate=01%2F03%2F2022&fromCurr=USD&toCurr=THB&submitButton=
  22. One of the problems with most US credit cards is that they add on a 1 - 2.5% foreign transaction fee for purchases. If you search you can find card issuers who don't add those fees.
  23. @VocalNeal has been assisting me on this matter as well. He kindly identified an appropriate contactor to use with the 24V AC relay I was considering. While looking at his suggestion I think I found a 24VAC contactor that will do the entire job of controlling the pump. Hopefully those knowledgeable will decide it is a reliable single component solution. This link is from a US based shop but I'm sure I can get the exact item in Thailand. https://shop1.us.mitsubishielectric.com/products/S-N11 AC24V
