  1. The older and slower 2.4 GHz WiFi band is better at passing through most materials. The newer and faster 5GHz is much less tolerant of brick/concrete walls so that signal may not cover a whole house very well.
  2. I had that feature for a while with a US bank but they cancelled it after a couple of years. It was called a virtual credit card. It made protecting my real credit card number a lot easier. I read over Bangkok bank's web pages for personal banking and I didn't see any mention of non-physical cards. Maybe they cancelled that service.
  3. Your solution is fine if the OP is only referring to the use of a debit card at ATMs. Since the OP did refer specifically to a debit card he is probably intending to use it at POS or online shopping. You solution won't help him for those circumstances.
  4. The typical use will be once a day or less in the rainy season and perhaps up to twice a day in the dry season in Chiang Mai. Average use will certainly be less than twice per day. When the relay fails, will the pump go off, stay on or stay in whatever state it was in before failure?
  5. It seems like you are telling me that I cannot rely upon the relay I showed in an earlier post to complete the circuit from PEA power to the pump. The pump I'm using draws 8 Amps and they rate that relay at 10 Amps. It seems that the price of 142฿ is rather low.
  6. DC is not involved in my setup at all. The controller uses 24VAC to open/close the relay that controls 230VAC flow to the pump.
  7. That's starting to sound somewhat like a Rube Goldberg creation. I think the old style coil relay for 142 ฿ is sounding better and better.
  8. Thanks to Google Voice its easy for me to call US based customer support #'s. Rain Bird provides very good phone support and they confirmed that the following old style relay would do the trick. But, I probably should go for the solid state version @sometimewoodworker showed. PS: I just checked those solid state relays on AliExpress and it appears the minimum control voltage they require is 70V but Rain Bird controller supplies only 24V AC. I presume when the seller say "Input" they are referring to the voltage that would come from the irrigation controller.
  9. I went into the nearest SCB branch and signed their &^%!#@#$ waiver. They said it would take a week. Three days later I was able to transfer 400K ฿ out so I could take advantage of the 7 month window that Immigration allows me to reduce the balance required for retirement extension.
  10. We're so lucky to have all these ice-core experts at hand. They've got ice-cores from Hell, I bet.
  11. Thanks, but that one is 40 liters.... we want one about 6-10 liters to fit in cabinet under kitchen sink. I've found several in that range on Laz and AliExpress.
  12. Our home builder was the source. However, I'll be checking the wire size myself to be sure. I'll snip off a short piece since the wire is still accessible.
  13. I want to put a water heater under our kitchen sink but the available circuit doesn't have thick enough wires (so I've been told ). I think I read an old AN post saying that there are water heaters with small storage tanks intended for use with low amperage circuits. The AN search function is not being helpful. I don't think we would need more than 4-5 l of warm water at a time. Any one know of that type of heater?
  14. What the denialists don't understand is that the O₂, N₂ and Ar (total = 99.96%) gases do not absorb much of the infra-red wavelengths outward bound from the Earth. So the existence of those gases has almost zero effect on the retention of heat from that IR radiation. One would not make much of an error by assuming the concentration of O₂, N₂ and Ar are zero when calculating the infra-red energy retained by the atmosphere. When the denialists use the percentages of atmospheric gases they use the relative mole fractions (percentage by number of molecules) which of course is about the poorest choice of measurement parameter in regards to effect on heat retention by the atmosphere.
  15. I don't find it highly technical but then I have a pretty good grounding in the physical sciences. I think a significant percentage of people understand how a microwave works so they should understand how absorption of electromagnetic radiation by certain substances is part of the cause of climate change.
  16. Yes I think it's very much like a POS terminal. I don't do many POS payments so I'm not sure the bank uses exactly the same machine.
  17. I have done several recent counter withdrawals using debit cards from my US brokerage accounts and a US bank at four different Bangkok bank branches in Chiang Mai. BKK bank don't charge any fee for that service. I always just have them deposit the funds into my savings account with them. I have asked at SCB and Kasikorn but they said they don't offer that service. Another poster said he had used a different Thai bank but I no longer remember which one. I think that bank charged a small fee. I've seen foreign transaction fees of up to 2.5% charged by the bank/institution that issued the debit cards. I've only used debit cards that charge no fee.
  18. The misinformed are the last to know it.
  19. You presented a graph constructed from data gathered in USA and claimed it refuted what climatologists are claiming. USA makes up less than 2% of Earth's surface, so you should think of that data as localized data. The climate problem involves the entire planet and the <2% in USA is should not be construed as indicative of the global situation.

  21. The more posts you make in this vein, the more obvious it is that you don't comprehend the difference between weather and climate. Try again!
  22. @Skipalongcassidy. nice graph about weather in the US. The actual issue is a global one not restricted to the huge plains in the middle of North America. Try again!
  23. what a shame it doesn't show data bast 2021? It must be a conspiracy!
