  1. The word 'natural' means exactly zero about a product being healthy or good for you. It only means humans hopefully haven't yet messed with it. Ignore the word natural on food items. At least the adjective 'organic' implies more careful production and processing. Some natural almonds contain enough cyanide to make you sick. Cashews contain a natural toxin called urushiol in their raw, unprocessed state. The toxin is found around the cashew shell and can leach out onto the exterior of the nut itself.
  2. In the case of foreign funds, the more relevant question is what direction the exchange rate will move. There are so many factors that influence those rates. Inflation in prices and wages should weaken a currency. To fight inflation a country's central bank will generally raise interest rates which often causes an offsetting strengthening of the currency.
  3. I'm trying to correct an oversight on our build. We have several interior doors that have keyed locks. I did not buy a master keyed set of locks for them. In the USA it's easy to take your locks to a locksmith and have them re-keyed to a particular key. Instead of the locksmith option I ordered an inexpensive 3rd party kit that included the instructions and components that allowed me to do it at home. The first lock conversion took 30 minutes but subsequent locks only 5. Has anyone used a capable locksmith in the Chiang Mai area? I really doubt that a similar re-keying kit exists here so I won't waste any effort pursuing one. Bonus point question: Google translates locksmith to ช่างทำกุญแจ. Is that accurate?
  4. Your attitude is your responsibility. People are free to wear masks and you are free to not visit areas where their use is prevalent.
  5. Sorry, I misunderstood that you were only referring to Thai taxes, not USA taxes.
  6. Some AN members are using a Bangkok based tax firm that claims IRA, 401(k) withdrawals are exempted in the US-Thai tax treaty for residents of Thailand. That theory may fly for a while, but the landing could be rough. Best be prepared for that if your exemption from Thai taxation is based on that interpretation of the treaty. In case you missed the previous discussion on US taxes in Thailand: https://aseannow.com/topic/1008555-tax-specialist-in-chiang-mai/

  8. OP stated that he has two ceiling units and the model number confirms they are ceiling cassette style. Those units are sometimes called 4-way as they exhaust the cooled air in 4 different directions.
  9. Yes... I can request statements for multiple months using the smartphone app and it is sent via e-mail. If you don't have any transactions in a month, the statement is rather useless because it doesn't show the balance at all. Just in case I need statements showing the balance printed for Immigration I do a small transfer in or out if no other activity. I have to request a statement. Are yours sent automatically? Sometimes I get an emailed statement that I didn't request... but those are all in Thai.
  10. Try driving down the street to the Big C that is further South than the Big C Extra. That's where my SCB account was opened. I have no tax withheld so at least someone at that branch knows what to do.
  11. @EricTh @skatewash have you tried politely requesting them to call Head Office to fix your tax withholding issues. Perhaps mention that you "know" some SCB customers do NOT have tax withheld because their Tax ID is registered on their SCB account. Expats not working in Thailand and whose only income will be from interest, will owe NO tax unless they earn over 200K in interest. The first 20K ฿ in interest is tax exempt, plus there is a 30K ฿ personal exemption. After you reduce your income by those two exemptions, if your taxable income is now less than 150K ฿, you pay no income tax.
  12. The LH Bank website shows a "special" fixed deposit account with the 1.2% on a 1 year term and 1.25% on a 15 month term. That's probably what the poster was referring to. 13. Under Trump's .....leadership (cough, cough)... the GOP has changed from Grand Old Party to Gruesome Outrage Party
  14. A word of warning about using the long rectangular wood looking ceramic tiles. Often those tiles are manufactured such that each tile is slightly thicker in the center of the tile than it is at the edges or at the ends. The finished floor will have a very small wave as a result. To get the best result, you should offset each row of tiles from its neighboring rows. I think a regular offset looks better than a random offset. I asked our builder to use a 25% offset between rows. The difference in tile thickness is more noticeable if you arrange the tile rows with a 50% offset because the lowest part of each tile (the end) is adjacent to the highest part (the center) of neighboring tiles . Using a 25% offset makes the height difference less noticeable.
  15. @dia1 I did finally get to test a discarded piece of the polystyrene trim for susceptibility to damage caused by accidental bumps from furniture. I was surprised that it required a strong whack before it showed a dent. Scratches on the paint were of course more easily inflicted, but that's to be expected.
  16. Just for a unique look. Thanks for the advice that it may work better hung in the usual fashion. ????
  17. I am considering using fabric art pieces backed with foam to reduce echoes in a room. The room has rendered 10cm AAC block walls. The area may be about 2m X 1.5m. Is it a realistic plan to use a router to create a sunken section of the wall about 2-3 cm deep so the art work will be flush with the wall surface? I don't think I need great precision in the depth of the section. A little sanding will hopefully suffice to adjust any shallow spots. I plan to guide the router with some steel channel sections pressed against the wall. Many router passes will be required. Would the alternative method of making intersecting saw cuts and then chiseling out small sections be better/easier?
  18. Very nice design and work.
  19. Go to a Boonthavorn mall. I think they have the largest selection of tiles. I think they are more expensive than Thai Watsadu or Global House. They may also have several tile examples installed on the floor in their tile area. Seeing a good sized area will help you see what it will look like in your house. When you see one you like take a picture and then you can go to the cheaper tile places and see if they have something similar at a lower price level. OneMoreFarang's advice is excellent.
  20. Of course it has. And, the climate scientists have a decent understanding of what events or geologic changes led to those climate changes. That's why they understand what's happening now.
  21. Using outlier weather events is not how to do climate science. Please brush up on weather vs climate.
  22. Do you base your entire assessment of climate science on this one event that lasted only a few hours?
  23. Who cares about the weather in 1913? What percentage of the earth's surface experienced the hottest day in 1913? Don't you think that is a more relevant question?
  24. I don't think you've been alive long enough to collect enough data about the climate "always" changing. That implies that for you to know that fact, you must have relied on scientists who have actually studied climate. It seems you wish to accept some of that science but reject that which you find inconvenient.
  25. yes it does...... but all together too much CO₂ is floating around in the atmosphere prior to being used by plants. That is the problem.
