  1. @EricTh @skatewash have you tried politely requesting them to call Head Office to fix your tax withholding issues. Perhaps mention that you "know" some SCB customers do NOT have tax withheld because their Tax ID is registered on their SCB account. Expats not working in Thailand and whose only income will be from interest, will owe NO tax unless they earn over 200K in interest. The first 20K ฿ in interest is tax exempt, plus there is a 30K ฿ personal exemption. After you reduce your income by those two exemptions, if your taxable income is now less than 150K ฿, you pay no income tax.
  2. The LH Bank website shows a "special" fixed deposit account with the 1.2% on a 1 year term and 1.25% on a 15 month term. That's probably what the poster was referring to. Conditions: Conditions for 12 and 15 months special time deposit products 1.Forindividual customers only2.Minimum deposit conditions 2.1 Special 12 -month time deposits. 3. Under Trump's .....leadership (cough, cough)... the GOP has changed from Grand Old Party to Gruesome Outrage Party
  4. A word of warning about using the long rectangular wood looking ceramic tiles. Often those tiles are manufactured such that each tile is slightly thicker in the center of the tile than it is at the edges or at the ends. The finished floor will have a very small wave as a result. To get the best result, you should offset each row of tiles from its neighboring rows. I think a regular offset looks better than a random offset. I asked our builder to use a 25% offset between rows. The difference in tile thickness is more noticeable if you arrange the tile rows with a 50% offset because the lowest part of each tile (the end) is adjacent to the highest part (the center) of neighboring tiles . Using a 25% offset makes the height difference less noticeable.
  5. @dia1 I did finally get to test a discarded piece of the polystyrene trim for susceptibility to damage caused by accidental bumps from furniture. I was surprised that it required a strong whack before it showed a dent. Scratches on the paint were of course more easily inflicted, but that's to be expected.
  6. Just for a unique look. Thanks for the advice that it may work better hung in the usual fashion. ????
  7. I am considering using fabric art pieces backed with foam to reduce echoes in a room. The room has rendered 10cm AAC block walls. The area may be about 2m X 1.5m. Is it a realistic plan to use a router to create a sunken section of the wall about 2-3 cm deep so the art work will be flush with the wall surface? I don't think I need great precision in the depth of the section. A little sanding will hopefully suffice to adjust any shallow spots. I plan to guide the router with some steel channel sections pressed against the wall. Many router passes will be required. Would the alternative method of making intersecting saw cuts and then chiseling out small sections be better/easier?
  8. Very nice design and work.
  9. Go to a Boonthavorn mall. I think they have the largest selection of tiles. I think they are more expensive than Thai Watsadu or Global House. They may also have several tile examples installed on the floor in their tile area. Seeing a good sized area will help you see what it will look like in your house. When you see one you like take a picture and then you can go to the cheaper tile places and see if they have something similar at a lower price level. OneMoreFarang's advice is excellent.
  10. Of course it has. And, the climate scientists have a decent understanding of what events or geologic changes led to those climate changes. That's why they understand what's happening now.
  11. Using outlier weather events is not how to do climate science. Please brush up on weather vs climate.
  12. Do you base your entire assessment of climate science on this one event that lasted only a few hours?
  13. Who cares about the weather in 1913? What percentage of the earth's surface experienced the hottest day in 1913? Don't you think that is a more relevant question?
  14. I don't think you've been alive long enough to collect enough data about the climate "always" changing. That implies that for you to know that fact, you must have relied on scientists who have actually studied climate. It seems you wish to accept some of that science but reject that which you find inconvenient.
  15. yes it does...... but all together too much CO₂ is floating around in the atmosphere prior to being used by plants. That is the problem.
  16. I don't agree with this. In the USA employment taxes which are used to fund Social Security are collected and then invested in a special form of US Treasury bond. It is not held out of circulation. The government now has to borrow less from other sources. The government expenditures re-enter the regular channels of money flow in the economy and become indistinguishable from any other spending. Most of the mattress money that is held out of circulation comes from illegal sources or underground economies.
  17. This shows why bank's profits increase dramatically when interest rates rise.
  18. The tax free nature of the accounts that @macahoom referenced won't be of much benefit for those who have no tax obligation in Thailand other than earned interest. Each taxpayer in Thailand is given an exemption on the first 20K฿ of interest income and also a personal exemption of 30K฿. Furthermore there is no tax on the first 150K฿ of taxable income (including interest). I believe that if your income is only from interest, you won't pay ANY tax on the first 200K฿. Obviously when there is no tax due, the interest rate before and after tax are identical. At a rate of 2%, with no other income you would need 10M฿ on deposit before you pay tax on the interest. Even if you exceed the 200K฿ limit the Thai tax rates don't match the 15% withholding rate until income is greater than 500K฿. 19. Thai cuisine is subdivided into at least 4 main regional styles. Central Thai is the one known best outside of Thailand and includes green and red curries, panang, lots of fresh water and ocean fish dishes, and most of the better known noodle dishes. I only know a few of the Northern or Issan dishes well and even fewer of the Southern specialties. For decent Central style, I like We-La-Dee: https://g.page/weladeechiangmai?share Also mainly Central style but closer in try Lemontree at : https://goo.gl/maps/p8p4LXfDAPjv7FbZ7 For Italian with a Thai influence, I like Sipolle at: https://goo.gl/maps/n4aMV87dwXbthMXd9 Another poster recommended The Dukes. You asked for European or Thai, but they serve a very American style of pizza, pasta, hamburgers, etc. For that style of food, I really like The Dukes. Bon appétit!
  20. I certainly can't disagree with you on that.... however I do believe that somehow most of his voters have become emotionally entangled with MAGA and abandoned reason entirely in the realm of politics.
  21. If you've been a "good" AT&T customer, you can call them and ask for their assistance in unlocking it for use in Thailand. I have done that in the past.
  22. You didn't get very far into your post before your bias was clearly revealed. Try harder next time.
  23. Perhaps you are experiencing a language barrier. The quote you gave does not support your interpretation.
  24. Interest IS income. The previously referenced documents describe all the forms of income that are assessable income in Thailand.
