I remember that I had to buy a special low pressure tester to be able to measure the tank pressure when empty. I came across it when I wanted to check our tire pressures as it looks exactly like a normal tire pressure gauge except for the scale labels.

When I had these symptoms on my system in USA, it was due to a ruptured bladder in the storage tank. The bladder could not be repaired so the only recourse was to replace the tank.

Interest withholding tax
gamb00ler replied to peterfranks's topic in Jobs, Economy, Banking, Business, Investments
Perhaps SCB requires the tax ID (or Thai ID) as part of the process to open the account but then another step is required to stop the tax withholding. SCB said they couldn't open the EZ account for me without the tax ID. Maybe I just got lucky and the SCB staff also set up my account for no withholding at the same time. -
Interest withholding tax
gamb00ler replied to peterfranks's topic in Jobs, Economy, Banking, Business, Investments
@peterfranks If you're in CM, try going to the branch where I opened my SCB EZ savings account. The branch is in the BigC at Donchan, just North of the intersection of route 1141 and the superhighway. On my first visit they were having trouble opening the EZ account. I asked them if it would work better if I had a Thai tax ID and they said yes. A couple of days later I got my tax ID and went back to that branch and got the EZ account opened. I have never had tax deducted from the interest paid on that account. I also successfully stopped the withholding tax at Kasikorn bank and Bangkok bank. However, I was unable to stop withholding from my fixed deposit account at Bangkok bank. Be polite but persistent and you should prevail. If you fail you can file a tax return and the withheld funds should be refunded provided your total income is below the applicable threshold. -
Capital gains tax

You should research the rules that CRA uses to determine your tax residence. You can start here: https://serbinski.com/working-in-usa/canadian-residence-definition#:~:text=For Canadian income tax purposes,is a question of fact. -
Capital gains tax

Since you specifically asked about both long and short term tax rates, I'll assume you're a US citizen and are inquiring about US taxation. If my assumption is correct your tax rates on capital gains are not different because you live in Thailand. https://www.irs.gov/taxtopics/tc409 https://www.nerdwallet.com/article/taxes/capital-gains-tax-rates -

@KhunLA FYI the Visa exchange rate for Jul 1 was 35.275 and Mastercard was 35.285 Since the US$ was trending up on Jul 1, those rates look very reasonable. If you can, open a Capital One 360 checking account and use their debit card to move funds to Thailand via teller "cash advance". That way you will have more control over what exchange rate you get. I use a Thai address for SS benefits that are DD to a US account with a US address. I think my benefits are paid on the same dates as all other Thailand based payees. -

I agree the street food scene is important to the tourists. But.... I much prefer how Taiwan handles it. Still plenty of choices but its much more organised, convenient for walking and also looks much cleaner. I didn't go to the beach in Taiwan but visited a few of the street food markets in Taipei.

I suggest you look at the USD vs DXY. Hopefully it will become clear to you that it's not manipulation of USD vs THB..... it's the overall strength of the USD vs everybody else. Like every other traded commodity there are fluctuations that are due mostly to the "mood" of those trading in it. -
There is definitely price gouging in Thailand. I see it often when looking for house finishing goods particularly if you want something generally only purchased for high end houses in Thailand. The two examples that I encountered recently are plantation shutters or custom countertops made of solid surface material with a seamlessly integrated undermount sink and backsplash. Both of those are considered standard or mid-range quality in the West. Neither of those are common here in Thailand. Consequently the cost is significantly higher than in my home country. Those products do require a somewhat higher level of skill to fabricate but still the price is out of line with the cost of materials and labor. A thin market often means exorbitant pricing.

How to send a Fax via Gmail - sounds out of place but is reality

I don't understand why.... but some of my intended recipients cannot receive PDF files sent through LINE. It's probably some arcane setting somewhere... faster for me to just use email instead of researching and resolving the issue. -
I haven't look closely to see if hazelnut flavoring is available in the international ingredients sections of Tops or equivalent. If they do stock it, you could probably produce an acceptable replacement cream/flavoring combination.

A lot of people state that it is restricted to Thai citizens....some of them also work for SCB. But... they're wrong. I'm way too tall, can't speak or write Thai, and way too light skinned to be mistaken for a Thai but they gave me an EZ Savings account anyway. Initially they did say a work permit was required but they did listen to my suggestion to call their support line to get SCB's actual policy. Land & House Bank also has an account that pays 1.5% for deposits up to 3M฿. That account is restricted to Thai citizens.

The Visa rate normally doesn't change on the weekends. It should have changed Mon and Tue at 7AM. I don't suspect anything nefarious. It is probably merely incompetence or failure to cover for staffing problems. The Visa website does accept messages about problems and I have sent them a complaint about the lack of updates on THB <--> USD rates.

Since about Jun 15, '22 the exchange rate on both Visa and Mastercard have been rather poor in comparison to WISE. The usual difference is about .14 - .18 ฿ per $ but it has now risen to .25 - .35. Also, the two companies rates are not in lock step as before. VISA rate today is .3 below Mastercard. I hope VISA and MC return to their better rates when the US $ is still relatively strong. I'm glad I added a Mastercard option in the last few months.
