Climate change: July set to be world's warmest month on record
gamb00ler replied to Social Media's topic in The Green Forum
Like all human endeavors, "science" began with very few facts but was driven by human curiosity. Slowly, the human race has collected a huge store of scientific knowledge. Climate science didn't begin any differently, so many initial analysis were off the mark and even dead wrong. Are you one of those that don't really understand how humans are continually refining their "scientific" description of how the physical world works? Are you trapped in the '70's? -

How does that explain an overall rise in the CO₂ percentage of the atmosphere when averaged over all days and seasons? -
Climate change: July set to be world's warmest month on record
gamb00ler replied to Social Media's topic in The Green Forum
The kindest analysis of your post would be that you didn't lie (AFAIK). You also didn't offer any analysis bundling your mostly unrelated facts into a cogent rebuttal of .... well anything. Thankfully you are of course entitled to an opinion. However when engaging in a discussion of the relative value of opinions, facts and logic must be brought to bear. You offer no logical refutation of the impact of rising CO₂ on Earth's climate. You are of course entitled to an opinion. However when engaged in a discussion on the relative merits of differing opinions, facts and logict must be brought to bear. -
Current Visa Bid exchange rate
gamb00ler replied to jwdub12's topic in Jobs, Economy, Banking, Business, Investments
Many times I have used the numbers given on the quoted web page to calculate exactly how many ฿ to request at the teller window to generate a withdrawal of exactly the amount of US$ will be deducted from my Schwab balance. The number given is the rate of exchange that Schwab will use when your transaction is processed a few days later. Just remember to set the fee percentage to zero, set the from currency to THB and the to currency to USD. For today, you will get 35.220035 baht per $. -

Here you go: https://usa.visa.com/support/consumer/travel-support/exchange-rate-calculator.html?amount=1000&fee=0.0&utcConvertedDate=&exchangedate=01%2F03%2F2022&fromCurr=USD&toCurr=THB&submitButton= I think they set the rate about 7AM daily on Tue thru Sat. -
I'm confused why SWIFT is involved. As far as I know Wise does not transfer any funds using SWIFT. I'm guessing you are referring to a transfer using normal Wise transfer and funding it with funds held in US$ in a Wise multi-currency account. I think it matters not wether you do the exchange separately or as part of a transfer transaction. I believe the exchange rate that Wise has set at the time of the conversion or transfer will be used. Wise only has a single exchange rate (for currency pairs) and uses it for conversions and transfers.

monitoring solar production/potential
gamb00ler posted a topic in Alternative/Renewable Energy Forum
I have 11kW of panels feeding into a 10kW inverter (SMILE-T10-HV-INV). The software they have provided shows how much power the panels are pumping into the house load and/or batteries. When the batteries are full and the house load is low, the software only displays the amount of solar production that is being used. I cannot see what the current maximum solar production could be. I know some of the potential output is discarded because no place to expend it. Is there a way to see the maximum panel output that is possible under the current conditions? I can think of a few low priority power expenditures that I could use to increase the current load and consume the power that is currently being discarded. IE time shifting consumption. -

Did I mention I'm a part time soothsayer? I can see you getting an answer along the lines of: because I like outliers and I really want this one to be right because it just feels right did I mention that I want this outlier to be right -
Tips on dealing with the regional SSA office in Manila

Apparently you've never heard of rhetorical questions. I seriously doubt that another opportunity to understand why others have issues with Manila will change your views and prompt you to make a useful contribution. -
Tips on dealing with the regional SSA office in Manila

I gave plenty of details in my posts about issues with Manila..... and you're still not sure... hmmmm. Would you like to read all the emails between Manila and I? -
You must have accidentally included some irrelevant text in your post (which has been removed). That text was about marketing products and nothing to do with motorcycles. The last part of your post was about the topic at hand. The moderators removed your post, so now you can only see the text that I quoted in my "eh?" post. Sorry for any confusion. ????

You can check for yourself. MasterCard and Visa both set their exchange rate each business day early in the morning in Thai time zone. Their rates are published on publicly accessible web pages. I only have checked the Visa/MasterCard rates for the US$/TH. Their rates are normally within 10 satang per $ of the Thai bank's rates. https://www.mastercard.us/en-us/personal/get-support/convert-currency.html https://usa.visa.com/support/consumer/travel-support/exchange-rate-calculator.html?amount=1000&fee=0.0&utcConvertedDate=&exchangedate=01%2F03%2F2022&fromCurr=USD&toCurr=THB&submitButton=

@VocalNeal has been assisting me on this matter as well. He kindly identified an appropriate contactor to use with the 24V AC relay I was considering. While looking at his suggestion I think I found a 24VAC contactor that will do the entire job of controlling the pump. Hopefully those knowledgeable will decide it is a reliable single component solution. This link is from a US based shop but I'm sure I can get the exact item in Thailand. https://shop1.us.mitsubishielectric.com/products/S-N11 AC24V

I have found a few now on both Lazada and AliExpress. Some are as small as 6l but more often 8l and bigger. @PR3, that one looks good and Rheem is a better known brand.

Does proximity to the wifi router make a difference?
gamb00ler replied to brewsterbudgen's topic in IT and Computers
The older and slower 2.4 GHz WiFi band is better at passing through most materials. The newer and faster 5GHz is much less tolerant of brick/concrete walls so that signal may not cover a whole house very well. -
Which debit card has no annual fee?
gamb00ler replied to omnipresent's topic in Jobs, Economy, Banking, Business, Investments
I had that feature for a while with a US bank but they cancelled it after a couple of years. It was called a virtual credit card. It made protecting my real credit card number a lot easier. I read over Bangkok bank's web pages for personal banking and I didn't see any mention of non-physical cards. Maybe they cancelled that service. -

gamb00ler replied to omnipresent's topic in Jobs, Economy, Banking, Business, Investments
Your solution is fine if the OP is only referring to the use of a debit card at ATMs. Since the OP did refer specifically to a debit card he is probably intending to use it at POS or online shopping. You solution won't help him for those circumstances. -
The typical use will be once a day or less in the rainy season and perhaps up to twice a day in the dry season in Chiang Mai. Average use will certainly be less than twice per day. When the relay fails, will the pump go off, stay on or stay in whatever state it was in before failure?

It seems like you are telling me that I cannot rely upon the relay I showed in an earlier post to complete the circuit from PEA power to the pump. The pump I'm using draws 8 Amps and they rate that relay at 10 Amps. It seems that the price of 142฿ is rather low.
-
DC is not involved in my setup at all. The controller uses 24VAC to open/close the relay that controls 230VAC flow to the pump.
-
That's starting to sound somewhat like a Rube Goldberg creation. I think the old style coil relay for 142 ฿ is sounding better and better.
-
Thanks to Google Voice its easy for me to call US based customer support #'s. Rain Bird provides very good phone support and they confirmed that the following old style relay would do the trick. But, I probably should go for the solid state version @sometimewoodworker showed. PS: I just checked those solid state relays on AliExpress and it appears the minimum control voltage they require is 70V but Rain Bird controller supplies only 24V AC. I presume when the seller say "Input" they are referring to the voltage that would come from the irrigation controller.
