  1. It depends on which unit and which country. For USA: https://www.thespruce.com/guide-to-common-kitchen-cabinet-sizes-1822029 For UK: https://www.houzz.co.uk/magazine/10-essential-kitchen-dimensions-you-need-to-know-stsetivw-vs~77166332
  2. I use my Google Voice number to call SSA @ their 800 number. My GV number is in the Pacific time zone. If I call SSA before 8AM in the Pacific time zone, I am told the SSA office is not yet open. I then call SSA again but prefix the SSA number with *67 (in other words, I dial *67 800 772 1213) I am then able to request connection to a representative. The code *67 is supposed to hide your phone number from the call recipient. It's not supposed to work when calling toll free numbers, but it seems to work when calling SSA. For info: https://www.lifewire.com/hide-your-number-with-star-67-4154833 What is the area code of your Skype number?
  3. I had a little success contacting Manila via email using [email protected]. When sending them three questions, their first response would unsuccessfully attempt to answer the first question and ignore the others. I would eventually get relevant answers through repeated exchanges.
  4. It should be all done and dusted in another 5 years since it's on the expedited track!
  5. I was for a few weeks until another AN poster started a thread about the changes to the EZ Savings account at SCB.
  6. If the "regular trading account" Schwab is allowing you to keep is actually a brokerage account you can use it to receive any direct deposits that are currently being sent to your checking account. I have been doing that for years now so I'm sure it works. With a brokerage account, you will also be eligible for a Schwab debit card which is great for accessing your US funds from Thailand via ATM's or cash advances at Bangkok bank teller window. Schwab charges no fees on their card and refund the fees added by Thai ATM's.
  7. That's my experience. On my initial visit, the SCB branch seemed unable to open the EZ Savings account at all using just my passport. I was watching them and could see they were struggling. I asked if I had a Thai tax ID would it work and they said Yes. Within a week I got a tax ID and returned (no Pink ID card for me). The EZ account was opened quickly with no other issues. I've never had any tax withheld from the interest payments for that account.
  8. The Raspberry Pi would not be rendering any web pages. It would simply be serving as a non-filtering proxy to disguise the IP address of the original requestor.
  9. I'm thinking I'll use a Raspberry Pi if I go this route. It has enough horsepower for such a simple task, is very light on power consumption and can handle most everything a full Linux installation can do.
  10. I am using a US residential address with Schwab and all other financial partners (except SSA) in US and Canada. I've lived in Thailand since Sep. 2020 and have had no issues with any of them. I have a Google Voice number from the area code of my former residence and my current proxy address to bolster the subterfuge. I kept the Schwab account partly for the ease and efficiency of converting funds to ฿ via their debit card at ATM or BKK bank tellers. It is doubtful that my 35 year history with Schwab would prevent them from taking action if they became aware of my relocation to Thailand.
  11. Since that is such a regular occurence in these parts.... let's just say MBSSOM.
  12. Our water bill sat in our mailbox for a few days because it lay so flat. I didn't notice it until other mail arrived. Consequently the very short window for easy payment was closed. PWA's website is pretty much useless if you can't read Thai. The web site designers insist on using images to display the information rather than text. Chrome's built in translation function cannot translate the Thai language in the images. Also the website gives a link to a PDF document that contains the instructions for making payments.... but that document is in Thai only. The PDF also presents the crucial information in images rather than text.
  13. Are you using an iPhone? If I have WiFi connected and I turn on Airplane Mode, I still can get online with my iPhone 8 Plus. Is your VPN running on your phone, your router or your computer? Is your Apple ID using a US address or Thai address? I am using a US address with Thai phone number.
  14. I would love it if I could use one..... but it's interior drips from when they painted the door, window and baseboard trim.
  15. Our builder did a decent job on cleanup, but still some spots where the cleanup was not done carefully. What's a good product for dried latex paint? I've been to HomePro and Global house but the staff could only point me to products more likely for oil based paints (Beger and TOA). An online guide said there are citrus based products but I have not seen any in stores here. Suggestions?
  16. The instructions that you have referred to as "far too complicated" are only required to get the Google Voice (GV) app installed on his phone. Those steps are required to get around Google's restrictions on installing the app while in Thailand. Once that is done, making a GV phone call is almost identical to the regular actions for placing calls. As for reliability, I have not had any problems placing or receiving calls for years now.
  17. I use Textnow in Thailand from the Chrome browser. But, I have not tried any phone calls, only SMS.
  18. Also free calls and SMS to Canada.
  19. Do you already have a Google Voice number? That may be difficult to get from Thailand. Try installing the app again after you disable "Location Services" on your iPhone, and also use WiFi only by enabling Airplane mode. Also use the VPN as in your previous attempt. Remember to re-enable everything afterwards! Found in: Settings -> Privacy & Security -> Location Services. Calls to UK start at 1 US cent/minute for landlines and most mobile providers. Some UK providers are much more expensive to call. You will need to be able to deposit US$ to your Google account.
  20. Nothing travels faster than gossip.
  21. Just having a Cloud Machine (VPS) won't allow you to do what you want. To access the VPS and use it to hide your Thai IP address you will need software to do that. VPN software may be overkill for that task but it is probably the easiest way to get to the functionality you require. You could probably use proxy software which is less powerful.
  22. Yes.... but you mentioned bandwidth as a criteria for identifying a VPN... that is not correct. All Amazon needs is the IP address of the VPN server. The Amazon server will then probably compare the IP address to list of known VPN server addresses. IPv4 addresses are only 4 bytes (characters) long so a search will be very fast. How are you communicating with the US based servers that you wish to spoof your location? If only through a browser, then the US based server has fewer capabilities to determine your location accurately. If you are using an application program provided by the US company, then they will have a greater ability to identify you and your location. Their custom written application will have greater access to other information on your computer than they would have if only using a browser.
  23. I don't think this explanation accurately reflects what an Amazon server is able to determine about a connection that it accepts from a VPN provider. The only data that such a server can see from such a connection is the IP address of the VPN provider's server, the IP address of the computer transmitting the packet on the last leg of it's journey and of course the actual user data in the packet. I'm pretty sure the Amazon server would not be able to determine the "bandwidth" of the connection from the VPN server. Perhaps you meant to use another term instead of bandwidth.
  24. These days you can buy a very compact "desktop" that can easily be attached to the back of a monitor using a VESA mount. This arrangement will largely replicate the experience of using an All in One PC. The major difference is that there will two power cords and a short HDMI/Display Port cable from the computer to the monitor. The mouse and keyboard cables can also be eliminated if you use Bluetooth components. I recommend this setup over an All in One primarily because of easier hardware maintenance, replacement and upgrades. There's a good chance it will also be cheaper.
  25. I came across this resource when looking for information regarding tax obligations when living abroad. The IRS has a YouTube channel. A playlist in that YTube channel has 5 videos specific to taxpayers living abroad. https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLvDH25MKBe1dHOGwmZ941u6NLYRM7lJYX The price is right and the info is straight from the horse's mouth.
