Pheu Thai breaking with Move Forward to form its own coalition
bannork replied to snoop1130's topic in Thailand News
Seripisut, the one MP party leader and ex police chief, who caused controversy last week when he suggested MF leave the coalition, has done it again. At a press conference he condemned the protesters who burnt effigies at the front of PT's HQ, saying they could get up to 8 tears jail each. Then he talked about Yok, the girl barred from her school for refusing to wear a uniform. 'If she was my daughter, I'd kill her and dispose of the body.' Whoa! -
Pheu Thai breaking with Move Forward to form its own coalition

I hold a more cynical view of PT than you do. I think PT leadership resent being usurped by MF in the election. They assumed, somewhat complacently, they had the youth and working class vote in their hands, their constant talk about landslide victory shows that. Now, I see they're claiming if they can form a government, they will support same sex marriage, abolish conscription and alcohol monopolies. Haven't they lifted these straight out of MF's election pledges? So, imo, PT see this as a golden chance to win over the youth from MF, plus keep the working class vote with their 10,000 baht promise for every adult Thai. But it's a rocky road ahead for PT, their partners include the Democrats, their enemy for decades, Bhumjaithai, corruption galore, how many of their MPs are still not ratified? If I remember right it's 20 or more who could face yellow or red cards. Then there's a myriad of small parties to please, a headache with a thin majority of 261. Now MF said they will not vote for Settha on Friday so PT must rely on the senators who have all been chosen by Prayuth or Pravit Yet PT want to exclude their parties from their coalition!! I can't see Settha getting the votes under this formula -
It's great that Mildred's found an activity she loves, Owl. At the very least she's doing something she really enjoys. Back to the rain, my favourite subject. Back in June the meteorological office predicted a dry July Well that didn't turn out too well thank god, and now at the beginning of August we've had 4 days of almost continuous rain. How are the ponds, Owl, and your own charts? Is this year turning out to be an exception to your records of declining rainfall? Too many power cuts this year, one now and there hasn't been any wind to speak of.Perhaps the electric boys are on strike in sympathy with MF being kicked out of the coalition. After all they all wear orange!

If MF won't support Settha to be PM, he's going to need quite a few senators to vote for him -

In that case Eric, Bhumjaithai will have to swallow their words and accept MF. Actually, it's all nonsense about not accepting MF because of 112, MF don't have enough votes on their own to push it through Parliament anyway! If PT and Bhumjaithai reject MF but still need their votes for Settha to be PM, then that's nonsense too 'We won't accept you because of 112 but we want your votes for our PM!' Another thing, Thaksin. I just can't see him coming back if both Pravit and Prayuth are excluded from the government. I just can't see it! -
Latest Pheu Thai-Led Coalition To Do Without Move Forward

This formula looks difficult to implement The coalition have 262 MPs but need 375 votes from both Houses combined so: 1. MF must vote for Settha even though they are excluded from the government! 2. If MF refuse, Chettha must find at least 113 senators to vote for him. But they were all selected by Prayuth and Pravit whose parties are both excluded from this coalition! Can't see how this formula will work unless MF commit an act of supreme benevolence and why should they? -

So having been excluded from the coalition and government, its members now expect MF to vote for Settha as PM as an altruistic gesture. Plus in the election campaign Settha said he was for reform of Article 112. Pass the sick bag, Alice -

He was the one mouthing it off-" I'll be back manning the barricades as soon as the first shot is fired.'' As the red shirts were shot dead, he was busy in a luxury store in Paris, choosing which brand to buy. -

Despite Being Blasted, Chuwit Insists Thaksin Not Returning On Aug. 10
bannork replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
He's a coward because when the red shirts faced off against the army, he said he would be back on the front line as soon as the first shots were fired When the first shots were fired, he went shopping in a Paris luxury brand store. He's a coward because he didn't dare debate Abhisit on TV prior the election ( years back). He claimed it wasn't Thai style. He's a coward because he tried to shut down criticism of himself. Papers were deprived of state revenue and individuals were sued.- 105 replies

Jatuporn says the same. He says being pardoned is not as straightforward as some make out, especially for corruption cases. There can be objections to the release of the prisoner. And once Thaksin has handed himself over to the authorities, he has lost all autonomy. Can he trust them to keep their side of the deal? Time will tell. -
Widespread online scams pose daunting challenge to Thai authorities
bannork replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
The problem is the kids are addicted to the phones from a really young age. They can't imagine life without them whilst us oldies don't remember getting bored in our youth. Card games, board games, cards on rainy days, and on sunny days mother would tell us to get out of the house and enjoy some sunshine. But the article here is about scams, bogus companies, impersonating famous figures. Constant warnings on state media is one answer but online transfer of money is so easy, the predators only need one victim in a hundred to make it worthwhile. A personal example of internet mystery - this month my AIS bill jumped from its standard 640 baht to 840 baht. Upon making enquiries, the staff pointed to one evening in July where my phone apparently sent 24 international SMS messages at 9 baht apiece in the space of one or two seconds apart, all to the same number! I pointed out I most certainly never sent these messages and my phone was definitely in my possession at the time (9.00 pm). But what can a poor boy do? Pay up or get cut off -
As Pheu Thai move to the right to gain power and break their election pledges, MF stand firm as the only party with steadfast ideals and policies to reform Thailand. . They can only get stronger whatever the authorities throw at them.

He gave police, provincial and district chiefs targets to meet, in the business sales style he used building up his telecom empire. A certain number of arrests had to be made monthly, otherwise a transfer for the hapless official(s). Arrests for possession and arrests for dealing. Absolutely no mercy was to be shown to dealers, some suspects were found shot dead. The police said by other gang members How did they know he was a dealer? He was found with 2 amphetamine pills in his pocket. This scenario happened time and again. Some authorities placed suggestion boxes outside their office where members of the public could anonymously drop names in on a bit of paper. Hey! I don't like my business rival down the road, he sells more motorbikes than I do. So I put his name in the box. Hundreds of innocent people must have been killed but Thaksin naturally refused any investigation.

Red Shirts in Korat Gather to Welcome Thaksin at Don Mueang Airport
bannork replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
I hope it's true as it will leave egg on the face of his silly daughter and in fact the whole PT party who are beholden to the man If true, and it's a big if, what a shambles! Jatuporn was explaining yesterday that gaining a pardon for Thaksin's crimes wasn't as easy as has been suggested. Perhaps Thaksin feared the key being turned in his cell and then thrown away. He created many enemies whilst in Thailand. -

Red Shirts in Korat Gather to Welcome Thaksin at Don Mueang Airport

They felt rightly that their government elected democratically, had been illegitimately usurped by Abhisit and Newin. Not illegal but illegitimate.. So they were fighting for the restoration of their government which offered benefits to the working man. Imo, they were fighting for democracy in the sense that they wanted their democratically elected govern ment back. But if you ask them about the exclusion of the party with the most votes, MF, from governance, then democracy may take a back seat in their thinking, as all that counts is the return of their hero and the expectation of more populist policies to benefit them. Thaksin corrupt? Never mind we benefit too. Thaksin joins hands with junta parties, coups that destroyed PT governments and its previous parties, is this okay?! Never mind, just give us some money The attitude of some PT supporters, not sure how much
