How many years did the poor old Thai couple caught picking mushrooms in a national park get? Guess what - 15 years!!!! Thailand sure got their priorities in order. What a <deleted> travesty this all is...

Guys, make sure you leave car keys, smart phone or wallet behind next time you visit SCB so you have a good excuse to return "after hours"

Perhaps it would help if you would define what exactly you would refer to as paradise... Cambodia, a place to live cheap? Yes it is - Cambodia, a place with a great future? No, definitely not.
One swallow doesn't make a summer. Lax visa regulations won't make a paradise...

Would be a nice story if...
A ) There wouldn't be so many posters here who can't be happy with a simple man having his 5 minutes of fame and who need to throw dirt at anyone but themselves if he/she is mentioned in a newspaper... What does it matter if one here can also do a Guiteaw Lad Naa at home or whatever? You were not mentioned here, but that guy who obviously loves cooking and looks happy was! Why does this uplifting story need to be bashed to a pulp? If you can't take it that someone else if happier and feels more content than you, then stay off the internet!
B ) I can already see Thai officials getting down now on this one. A foreigner in Thailand is not supposed to experience happiness as a simple Pad Thai food vendor. To match all the requirements to get a work permit, he and his wife will need to run a Co.,Ltd. employ 4 Thai people, and he will need his non-B one year visa. The initial and recurring monthly and yearly costs for this, including social insurance, tax balance, accounting, etc. would kill this little business and bleed their bank accounts dry before they even put up the "open" sign. To cut this short - officials and a good percentage of Thai people don't want us "farangs" to be happy here, working as a simple food vendor, farmer, painter, whatever and refuse to grant us equal rights. Thus, when reality sets in, that admirable man might charm the locals, but official rules and regulations for 2nd class citizens here (us foreigners, farangs, aliens) will destroy the fun of it as soon as the official hyenas are let loose and all that will be left of this nice story is a sour aftertaste and a "for sale" sign... It sickens me

What else is new? These useless Thai "Wai Loon" idiots on their pimped-up Clicks have been screwing underage girls for centuries (even though there were no Honda Clicks back then) at times when there were no smart phones and no internet, just to leave them behind pregnant and with very little future options. Where is the relation?
Thailand is well known for its hypocrisy - easy sex and whorehouses everywhere, but censoring a woman's nipple with a black star or dot in a glossy magazine; Thai men having three, four, or even more "Mia Noi" but, porn - even soft porn is banned; Nudity in public creates a nationwide outrage, but the disgusting police splatter magazines that any school kid can buy at 7Eleven show accident and gun shot victims up close and in full color, something that usually is buried in the dungeons of police forces in the western world, because it is disgusting and extremely disturbing to look at. Think about it!

R.I.P. to the victims and condolences to family and friends. Poor 9 year old boy had to die because any nutcake who can spell his name is allowed to call himself "electrician" and work as such in Thailand. I have seen electrics on dive boats that would make you cream your pants just by looking at them. It's a miracle that so little electrical fires happen in Thailand. By the looks of it half the country should be on fire... But implying stiffer safety measures and enforcing them on their own public is so much more difficult than enforcing visa laws and driving the bad, bad "Farangs" out of the country. The story of the empty fire truck adds to the sense of safety any tourist might get here lately... Thailand sure is heading into the right direction if hitting an iceberg is what they intend to...

The fire is the biggest in Phuket since the Tiger Bar and Disco complex on Patong's Bangla Rd.
I thought Supercheap fire was the biggest island ever seen.
Both - the biggest fire and the biggest it starts with c and ends with a p... rhymes to buttercup...

R.I.P. to victims and condolences to famlies. I think China is well known for lax safety regulations, but am too lazy now to google if Thailand is behind China or not. My wild guess is a draw...

How about a new anti drug law making it cumpulsory for dealers to digest the full amount of drugs found on them immediately after they are caught? Nice handgun collection and great finger pointing job

And we all know why she holds on to the kids... Business assets, both of them, as soon as they turn 16 or perhaps even earlier. Shocking how this case was being handled from the very start. I see a Brit ambassador's head rolling

Violent animals like these ones need to be taken away for life and should have their human rights revoked. A perverse twist here, indeed...

Lot of confusion out there now, even at so-called professional law offices! Good advise is to check, check, and double check regulations and paperwork and don't believe the first thing you hear.
Digitalchromakey seems to have it all under control - great post!

Some good news at last - looked like a fair bunch of TV posters didn't have their paperwork in order as well... Glad to see they got a final chance to steer clear.

Some more posts with messed up quotes have been removed. Try to delete the quoted post in the middle of the quoted posts when posting and this problem may go away.
Doesn't the deletion of a quoted quote make everything else become obsolete? Just asking...

I get sweatky hand by simply watching the video. I don't really know if this is utter stupidity or bravery. Unnecessary risk it is, that's for sure, with or without slack / safety line...
Tourist arrivals in Thailand drop 10.47 percent to 13.6 million in seven months

Well, everything started nicely, didn't it? Crawckdown on taxi mafia, corrupt politicians, the fascist Bkk troublemakers, beach cleanup, a deeper look (not more I fear) into the deep south... But then they started frightening foreign workers to an extend that they would run and leave in sheer panic (Cambodian workers' story) to finally kill western tourism in an overdose of "now we do everything by the book" by enforcing and tightening visa and documentation requirements to an extend where not only expats, but Thai loving tourists, who returned year after year (some for decades) are now worried about all these visa bu!!$#it so much that they won't come this season and perhaps never return.
Three of our befriended couples won't come back 2014/15 and several friends of mine along the west coast have cancellations for their bungalows and guest houses raining in on a daily basis, especially after the passport fines story. We see in our little business cancellations as well. It's not looking good for this coming season.
I was always the one to stand in for the Thais in any discussion and tried to ease tension whenever it came to Thai bashing or over the top ranting at officials, police, etc. But by now, I personally have had it folks!!! Thailand certainly is number one in the world when it comes to the ability of shooting oneself in the leg. Thailand wouldn't use a pistol, they would use a pump gun to make sure the leg is off for good. Time to hit the brakes now, otherwise this country might tip over the cliff... I currently put selling everything and leaving in consideration, so do friends and business associtaes of mine. Thais might think their country is the greatest in the world and people will stay and invest here whatever harsh rules and regulations they might imply, but be warned Thailand - obviously not only expats, but millions of westerners who loved to visit this country, have been put off by your anti-foreign policies and your anti-foreign, nationalist stances. Enough is enough!!!!
