  1. You might be able to get a 90-days non-O visa, but not an extension of stay. As @DrJack54 says, look at some other Visa options.
  2. Taxation – which is what a DTA is about – is different from handling the deceased's estate. DTA is about "double taxation". Taxation has to do with both domicile and tax-residency, you can be taxed both places, and you can be covered by a DTA covering you not to be double taxed. The estate can still be handled in the country of primary resindency, even the dividend – or part of the dividend – shall be taxed in another country.
  3. You can download last will forms in Thai & English for a small fee from a number of lawyer's homepages, for example from HERE.
  4. It's depending where you primary stay was, when you die, that is the law for handling the estate – except for non moveable items like real estate.
  5. Yes, in HomePro and Global House or like stores, for example Best Bond Repair Mortar. The moderns times you don't add water but the enclosed liquid only, as it's a "two-component" A-B mix. The same type of mix is now also used for high quality tile grout. It actually works very well...????
  6. Since there is no war going on at the moment, it seems as sensible use of the ships and soldiers for something, instead of them getting bored by doing nothing...
  7. I know of several, including my own Luk khrueng (literally "half child") daughter, who was born in the local hospital and lived her first couple of healthy years in an Isaan village. And she don't look Thai at all. It might have to do with age, if a foreign man takes over child/children from a Thai spouse's previous relationship(s), or eventual add a child together, or find a girl/lady with no children and therefore need to produce their own (like in my case)...????
  8. The HRH the princess was presumably leaving the island...????
  9. A royal visit – a princess – normal procedure. You could also have seen two navy ships anchored up at the edge of Maenam Bay – they were especially visible at night as they are beatiful illuminated – which is also normal when royals visit the island. The ships have left, so the visit is over. The royals use to stay at W in Maenam, which also seemed the case this time, based on road markings and police.
  10. Online is not the same as a store... Many Casino products are temporary out of stock in BigC on Samui – that's why Top's often is more easy to find gourmet products...
  11. To get an exit stamp he needs to leave Thailand. When having left the kingdom he needs to re-enter, and that should be done with the Thai passport. The old and the new Thai passports will be linked together in the system, but also bring the old one, as it should have an former exit stamp. Thais can enter Thailand on expired passports, should this happen to him again.
  12. Much better chance to find it in Top's at a tourist destination like Samui than in our otherwise fine BigC hypermarket, Top's here got most of the real stuff – if not all – that we gourmet-loving foreigners like...????
  13. I'm sorry that I was too fast to reply, as your pension is not from the State. You are income taxable in both countries, but can deduct the paid British tax in your Thai income tax, so you are not double taxed. You might be due some income tax to Thailand, depending of your gross income.
  14. However, there are some girls that don't like young men for whatever reason...
  15. If the ex-boyfriend signed as guarantor – eventual registered on the title deed – the property might not be able to be transferred without his acceptance.
  16. Agree, the juridical person company A owned by 51% Thais, is Thai in regard of company B's ownership; i.e. the 51%.
  17. No, you are in Top's at a tourist destination...
  18. If you accept the 10 percent dividend withholding tax, you shall do nothing further. You are registered with your passport as foreigner, remember to use the NVDR-option to get dividends, when that options id available, otherwise buy shares with the "-F" option as foreigner within a 49% limit to be eligible for dividend. No, you are not working when investing in the stock market as an individual person. In general, if you stay 180 days or longer in Thailand within a calendar year, you are in principle full income taxable to Thailand. However, you cal still accept to pay 10% withheld dividend tax as final taxation for dividends. Capital gains from stocks traded on SET are not income taxable.
  19. The DTA between UK and Thailand says (my bold): Article 19 Governmental Services (1) (a) Remuneration, other than a pension, paid by a Contracting State or a political subdivision or a local authority thereof to any individual in respect of services of a governmental nature rendered to that State or subdivision or local authority thereof shall be taxable only in that State. (b) However, such remuneration shall be taxable only in the other Contracting State if the services are rendered in that State and the recipient is a resident of that other Contracting State who: (i) is a national of that State; or (ii) did not become a resident of that State solely for the purpose of performing the services. (2) (a) Any pension paid by the Contracting State or a political subdivision or a local authority thereof to any individual in respect of services of a governmental nature rendered to that State or subdivision or local authority thereof shall be taxable only in that State. (b) However, such pension shall be taxable only in the other contracting State if the recipient is a national of and a resident of that State. (3) The provisions of Articles 16 and 17 shall apply to remuneration in respect of services rendered in connection with any business carried on by one of the Contracting States or a political subdivision or local authority thereof.
  20. As a retired you cannot work. If you are married to a Thai, you can change your extension of stay to be based on marriage and get a work permit. Otherwise you need to exit Thailand and re-enter on a non-immigrant B-visa.
  21. Buy a Philips, they are non smokes...????
  22. I was never asked for bribe, but I didn't get my 100 baht change when paying two 1,000-baht notes, nor a receipt, and I never asked for change or receipt. I still don't get change and receipt in the new Maenam Soi 1 office. Once I has my photos taken in the front office, when he would let me out from the backdoor to the meeting room – which also worked as store room and the Birdman's office, and looked mainly like a store room – and I said that I need to pay for the photo. »No, give me the money,« he answered, so he got the extra 400 baht for the photo. Based on the initial interview for extension of stay based on retirement – at that time we, or at least I, would be interviewed about why we wished to stay in Thailand – he always asked to my girlfriend and my daughter. Sometimes he would walk out with me by the backdoor and have a chat on the bench outside while smoking a cigaret. At that time we got the extension of stay stamp immediately after interview, no waiting and no come back next week to collect the passport. However, one year the girl in the front office said: »Today not good, come back tomorrow.« I had seen that the birdman was inside the office, presumably in such a bad mood that might fit some of the scary stories about him. I didn't intend to drive home and come back tomorrow, so I just walked in. He looked at me, as was I some alien arriving from Neptun, but I said that I needed my annual extension. Little angry he asked for the papers, which he put aside, open my passport and stamped it – the fastest extension of stay, ever – and got his 2,000 baht...???? In a way, it was more easy in old time with the Birdman, than now...
  23. I've lived on the island permanently since 2006, so I've been a regular visitor at the immigration office a number of years, also the old office in Nathon and the so-called "Birdman", who was always fair, kind and polite to me...????
  24. The Danish embassy in Bangkok charge minimum one hour for everything, and one hour embassy-staff-work costs 5,460 baht or 1,125 Danish kroner... I don't mind paying a modest fee of 300 or 500 baht for a certificate – even it might officially be free – but of course I'm happy if I receive free service. I'm hopefully going to be serviced at Samui Immigration for many more years and will prefers good service with a smile, because I'm one of them farangs never complaining about not getting a receipt or 100 baht change...????
  25. Most important is that the dogs enjoys it...???? I've always been told that you shall not give chicken bones to a dog... The dog residents in my house – self movers that decided to stay – are fed for about 20 baht a day per head and the only get one meal in the evenings. The always get some meat – about 125 gram (they are around 20 kilo dogs) – which can be fried minced chicken or chickens breast with skin – or a can of mackerel in tomato, or a juicy pork bone. It's always served with dry food of the dogs preference, the latter to make them full enough and in theory give them what is needed for a healthy dog. If there are rice left over they might have fried rice with chicken – could occasionally be mixed with an egg – or the mackerel in tomato mixed with rice. Left overs that might appeal to a dog, are also served – Australian beef is the absolute gourmet preference – and instead of mixing it, I always serve separate dishes for the dogs; i.e. meat and dry-food as two dishes. The dogs loves that, as they otherwise would try to separate mix food themselves and eat the best stuff first. Beef is eaten before chicken or pork, and meat before dry-food; however, one of the dogs actually rate dry-food quite high. Remember to add little bit of oil if the dogs are eating much dry-food. As dessert they are serve a goodie stick, they will sit nicely and wait for that when finisher their dinner courses. In the morning they are served a small bowl of milk, when I make my coffee with milk; they also sit nice a wait for that while I'm busy making coffee...????
