  1. Phangan car-ferry traffic is small - 4 car-ferries a day, and that kind of passengers probably won't stop more than now by the pier to have somme food from market, if they stop there at all - most people heading for Phangan are foreign tourists using Lomprayah catamarans from Maenam and Bangrak, and Haad Rin Queen from Bangrak; Seatran Discovery has not yet restarted, but they also operates from Bangrak, i.e. Big Budhha Pier. Tao-traffic from Samui is Lomprayah and Seatran Discovery. If there comes a bridge it's likely that one of the car-ferry routes will cease operation - most likely Seatran, as it's private - the other route, Raja Ferry, operates from Lipa Noi Pier, south of Nathon...????
  2. That was already suggested a decade ago, when the island still had printed newspapers - I remember one of the stations were called "Happy Bar Chaweng"...????
  3. For you! Others seem to be of another opinion, since the number of visitors has increased ever since the late 80s...
  4. Quote from the article: "Food vendors at Ban Nathon pier urged the government to quickly build it for the future of tourism on the island." Food vendors at Nathon pier will probably see their business decrease if a bridge is build. Nathon will become a less important town with some few fishing ships landing, and having some public offices for mainly Thais - the amphor-, tessa ban- and revenue-offices - and a government hospital.
  5. They don't mind, people that already pays the airfare will continue fly to Samui instead of a 12 hour train or bus trip from Bangkok, or a couple of hours extra in a bus or taxi from a budget fare airport, where a bridge might cut a total of one hour off from the total transportation time. Can you for example imagine coming from abroad with up to 35 kg of luggage, and dece to take land transport from Bangkok or Phuket to save a relative minor cost of the last leg of the airfare?
  6. He was science teacher at the international school on Samui my daughter attended, so that part is true. And his South African girlfriend was working as teacher on my daughter's former school on Samui - when she was still there - but dismissed due to problems with her certificate to teach, which was why she became unemployed.
  7. Saturday 27th August, DJ Da Charmin Prince at The Green Mango Club... Call / Table Reservation 077 300 672 DRESS: Smart/Casual Doors open 9:00 pm
  8. Chaweng nightlife update, as per 19th August around 00:30 AM... Ark Bar is still closed for re-construction - the old beachfront buildings has gone now - and the replacement Surf Up Bar is not busy as late as slightly after midnight, but Chaweng's northern part of the beach road is beginning to come alive; please note that I walked there late, too late for busy dinner and pub actions... The former and for long time closed Bar Solo has risen as a Phønix-bird and is now a pub for what seems to be loaded quality tourists, at least it's been named "Rich Club"... Also Soi Solo - which might now be renamed Soi Rich - has some lights and probably also life... A view facing south on the Beach Road... There are a number of places with live-music entertainment, a new one is Jimmy Woo's... A view facing north on the Beach Road... Soi Sound however, is unfortunately still quite dead, and the beer bars there seems to be in need for some life-support - I think they were already in need of that before the pandemic - but remember that I passed there late, so maybe also way too late for busy beer bar life... Soi Black in the back-area is as busy as usual with guests in both the pubs and the bars... Hard Rock Café's open area has become a sandbox for newly opened Socia\tel customers, that for whatever reason don't make it all the way down to the sandy beach... It seems like both Hard Rock Café and Hooters are planning to open soon, they are both hiring staff... While dreaming about Hooters Girls you don't need to dream about dream-girls anymore, as Dream Girls is back in business and so are the girls apparently also; I could see that there were at least some of them inside as they opened the curtain when I passed the exiting place...???? Soi Green Mango is the busy nightlife spot in Chaweng; I noticed that the newly opened Space Fly Club has already been slightly rebuilt and renamed to W Zone Club... DJ Admin entertaining the audience at The Green Mango Club... A crowded and busy The Green Mango Club around 1 AM...
  9. 18th August DJ Admin (Netherlands) guest in The Green Mango Club...
  10. The cover-photo seems like instant love at first sight, she still has the number from the go-go bar around her neck...????
  11. You can most likely have a new box made for less than $3,000 plus transportation costs and eventual duty and v.a.t., you might even be able to get an inverter aircon included in the price, which can work noiseless enough for studio use. SCG has some nice affordable acoustic plates for the internal - I use them in my mastering room - and foam or other material to isolate noise and a tight closing alu-door should not be be a problem to get; and use fibercement plates instead of wood to avoid termites eating your sound-box...????
  12. I sincerely hope the minister also support major improvements of infrastructure on the island before building a bridge, otherwise the island's environment might collapse from all the extra tourists, who furthermore might be disappointed when arriving to a place that cannot cope with their basic recreational demands....
  13. Quite high, if you ask some of the old hippies in Lamai on Samui. They went to a remote beach on a neighboring island to fly high and party when the police got too interested in their mushroom shakes in the late 1970s; the saying is that a number of them still party over there and has done that at every full Moon night ever since...
  14. Keeping wild animals is a difficult balance – difficult for both animals and farmers.
  15. Not really, only the beer bars - but they were already on "life support" before the pandemic - the clubs and trendy pubs are quite crowded...???? This photo is from The Green Mango Club two weeks ago, the most recent series I've snapped... Soi Green Mango and Henry Africa's Bar are also quite crowded (this photo is from about one month ago, 8th July)...
  16. I also got champagne, when asking for white wine, and free cognac or liqueur for the coffee...????
  17. 22nd August, Engelbert Humperdink at Centara Hotel, Chaweng Beach...
  18. I've just been flying Qatar on monkey class with free seating, and I got my window seats on both legs...???? The food was by the way Okay for the monkey-status, but of course not as what used to be served on the more expensive biz-class...????
  19. It's the country were you stay the most when you die that will sort out the estate. This means that it could be under Thai law in your case. Your British last will will need to be translated to Thai; however, real estate in Britain might be handled after British law, while bank deposit and equity most likely will be handled after Thai law. It can be quite complicated in some cases. Your wife should make a last will, as with no last will the distribution of the estate will follow the law, meaning that the husband shall have 50% and children 50%, if there are no children but surviving parent, then 50% goes to the parents or other siblings. There is so far no inheritance tax in Thailand...????
  20. You need a company limited - or partnership limited with for example wife, if you are married - with a minimum shareholder capital of 2 million baht, where 49% can be held by you, while 51% need to be held by Thai nationals, minimum 3 shareholders in total. Expect that the Thai nationals can be challenged to show proof of funds for their shares. You need 4 Thai employees for one alien work permit, 2 employees if a limited partnership and only 1 million baht in company capital. You need a salary of minimum 50.000 baht per month - can be little less from some non-Western countries - to be able to extend your stay based on work permit. The company accountant or lawyer can assist you with the documentation need for work permit. If you are not married to a Thai you need to enter on a non-immigrant B-visa; if married to a Thai and with extension of stay based on marriage, you can get a work permit without using a B-visa, and there is no minimum salary requirements. ????
  21. The backstage on The Green Mango Club opened this weekend...
