I never had problems driving on Samui – been doing it since 2001 – when comparing to my home country I got used to that the traffic is "same-same, but different"... It was actually little weird to drive in my home country when I for once was back last year...????

I should remember to mention – when talking about hi-so-ladies – that women generally marry up in status; and if they are already up there, they normally marry equal status. That might especially be worth remembering when trying to meet Thai hi-so-ladies. If you are not in the well-off level, you might find it difficult to get a hi-so-lady interested in you... A good book to read for better understanding is "Good Medicine for THAILAND FEVER"...

In some areas there are plenty of local shopping within walking, or bicycling, distance, however depending of what is needed. I can as example mention where I live, and there are quite similar possibilities along the northern part of the Ring Road – the main road around the island – depending of how close you wish to to a beach. I live in Maenam and have numerous restaurants, pharmacies, dentists, mom & dad grocery stores, 7-Eleven, Mini BicC and Lotus's Go Fresh supermarkets within a few hundred meters distance; and expanded to about 500 meters even banks, pet shops, a building construction market, and much more. You can find similar in Bo Phut-area, both close to beach or further from one in the area with the hypermarkets and shopping malls, i.e. BigC, Makro and Lotus's with HomePro, even three of the international hospitals are in that area. Transportation is relative expensive – but even overpriced it might be cheap compared to some European countries – taxi prices range from 200 baht for a very short distance (almost round the corner) to about 600 baht for longer distance of about 10-15 kilometers. As @Tropicalevo says, you might find a reliable driver you can call. In daytime between 6 am and 6 pm, song thaew cars run around the island with fares from 20 baht to 100 baht per person depending of distance...????

It's not impossible – it has happened, I know of some – but it might be difficult and take time; even long time. Ladies from good families don't easily date – at least not without a chaperone – and you need to meet them first. Same with hi-so-women. You have to "hang out" at out places where this kind of women comes and get their attention to get into a conversation; might not be easy, but indeed possible. Hi-so-women might be met in hi-end shopping malls or similar places like hi-end restaurants; the might even visit the places in the nightlife. I'm not sure where ladies from "good families" can be met, a good family might not equal a well off family...????

It's normal and nature that Maenam Beach is full of seaweed after a monsoon storm; and there might also be a few plastic bottles between. Everybody helps cleaning the beaches after the monsoon – not only a few Russian tourists – it's same procedure every year. I know, because I live there beachfront and has of course also been cleaning beach; and so have the Thais...????
