Unfortunately we live in the Facebook era. Everyone wants to share their exciting lives with everyone else online. Look, the whole world.
Contrary to popular perceptions, some circles aren't enthralled and embedded with amongst social networking - because it ain't terribly social. Nothing but a controlled and engineered ruse.
I prefer to be "social" on my own terms. Where face-to-face physical presence is a realistic quantum.

"if she wasn't with me, she would be in her country village without aircon, and would not be able to afford the cost of the equipment nor the electric bill! Touche"
And there lies the anomaly, how can someone who is used to the high temperatures be hotter than a westerner who is not used to the heat?
Actually some Thai women do the same in reverse in the west i.e go around turning the Central Heating down (or off) in the Winter time, which would be set around 23% C (in Europe say) as opposed to somewhere around 35%C in Thailand.
It doesn't make sense to me either, I guess it's some form of control!

The moral rights and wrongs concerning your State Pension, are neither here nor there, its current law only that counts
the fact of the matter is: in order to receive your annual Pension increase requires one,to be permanent resident in the Uk.
This appeal to receive Pension Increases whilst living abroad has already been appealed twice in the European Courts and been turned down,on both occasions except if you live in a European Union Country.
If you are resident in the Uk for 6 months and 6 months in Thailand, then you are not permanently Resident in the Uk,so no ifs or buts, you are not permanently resident in the Uk!
If you decide not to declare the above facts, then you should be aware of the Departments Advertising and Hotline to prevent fraudulent claims............"Its not if we catch you,it's when"
Nonsense !
I don't know why you post such speculative rubbish with researching first !
This from the direct.gov website - it really is quite clear:-
Receiving your State Pension when moving abroad
If you are moving permanently, you will only get yearly increases in your pension if you are in a European Economic Area (EEA) country. You’ll get yearly increases in your pension if you move to a country that has a special agreement with the UK. This special agreement must allow for the annual increase of the UK State Pension. If you spend six months or more each year in the UK, you'll be entitled to your State Pension - with yearly increases - paid in full.
The same DWP Has the following to say on the same subject::
State Pension for Britons living abroad
If you're planning to live outside the UK when you retire, you'll still be able to claim your UK State Pension. Find out how your State Pension is paid if you live abroad. How to pay tax on your State Pension and who to contact if you move abroad.
Claiming your UK State Pension when you live abroad
You can claim your UK State Pension if you live outside the UK. You will only receive the yearly index-linked increases if you live in either:
- the European Economic Area (EEA)
- Switzerland
- a country which the UK has a social security agreement with, and the agreement allows for the annual increase of the UK State Pension
If you live outside those areas, you won’t be entitled to the increases that normally happen yearly. But if you return to live in the UK, your UK State Pension will be increased to current levels.
How to claim your UK State Pension if you live abroad............
So there is some confusion, still not explained on this subject, and I don't believe Thailand has any reciprocal Social Security arrangement on Pensions with the UK,such as EEC Countries.Or as you call it a "Special Agreement"
Returning to the UK for 6 months to claim the Annual Pension Increase is hardly,as the DWP state:"But if you return to live in the UK,your UK State Pension will be increased to current levels"Neither is keeping an accomodation address in the UK would be considered,as in compliance of UK Laws!
So do you think they mean you must return to live permanently in the UK with a 6 month qualifying period? or just 6 months to get your Annual increase, and then flit back to Thailand for 6 months???
Personally I dont think the long drawn out EEC Court of Appeals concerning the Expats disbarment of Annual Pension increases, had in mind leaving a blatant loophole open to those that choose to play the system. (and just for the record the fact that Expats are not given annual Pension increases was a Travesty of Justice IMO) And yes I also paid my 40 years NHS Contributions,so I am also not exempt from the EEC Ruling on this matter.
It appears to me, going by the DWP Website that they are saying both,or deliberately left it open to interpretation.
I believe the only way to settle the Ambiguity in this matter ...is to write or phone the DWP for clarification!
Not such speculative rubbish as you may think!!

I would think that all these Thai girls who've managed to fleece their farangs bone-clean must possess some level of intelligence. It takes a lot of smarts to be cunning.
Being Streetwise clever, and recognising a weakness ready to be exploited, should not be confused with real Intelligence.
Ok, so "streetwise clever" is not intelligence. Neither is level of education, as some of our esteemed posters have argued. And it can't be language skills (or lack thereof) that determines intelligence. Or level of exposure to western society. It certainly wouldn't be IQ or EQ or any other "Q." So what is it, exactly?
I think Tonto28, Post no 48, above yours gives a fairly accurate description of the meaning of Intelligence,it's certainly a good Post, and worth reading.

My ex wife used to called me Gorilla (silver back variety) for various reasons. As the relationship deteriorated, this moved to "sh!t mouth". Would have been quite happy to be called a buffalo.

hi, in some instances farrang confuses kwai with koi. i hear students call each other kwai all the time, but it is only in jest if they get a wrong answer. koi (dont know if spelt correctly) means they are calling you a 'dick' which is much worse. are you sure it was kwai ?
Yea i'm definately sure it was "Buffalo" (Kwai) but i'm cheering up quite considerably, from all of your comments,I have got to go someway before I hit rock bottom of choice Farang insults,in fact "Buffalo" could almost be a term of endearment, and perhaps I was being a bit ultra sensitive,as in thin skinned Lizard, which has yet to assault my virgin ears.
Actually I have a lot of respect for Buffalos, they mooch about all day, making boring rice fields look sort of picturesque, while quietly munching away on stale dried up rice stalks, minding their own docile business, come to think of it they never raise their voice in anger, and are quite contented animals, albeit a trifle boring as conversationalists out in the boonies, but you can't expect everything, can you?
Could be worse being called a Buffalo!
-
Called a buffalo, huh?
Well are you?
I dont suppose even you would expect an answer.

I have been called kwai. However, I think it was deserved. I won't admit to that though.
Is it any different then when I call my friend a twit when he does something assinine? It's all in the tone and subject to circumstances.
Well thanks for your reply,I have always been told Buffalo, even by Thais,is positively the worst name you can be called.a Twit is pretty mild in comparison,I would have thought?
Being called a lizard is worse.
If the OP is referring to a female companion that has repeated called him a kwai and is recalcitrant in their stance, then it might be a good idea to explore other options. Even if it was in jest.
I didn't know lizard was even worse Keyser, you never stop learning something new in Thailand eh?

The only way I would ever consider moving back is if I was unable to take care of my self and I was to big of a problem for my wife and needed institutionalizing.
Even at that I just might decide to let it all go and not fight the inevitable.
Being middle aged (70) I wont have to face that for a long time yet.
Blimey that's cheered me up somewhat,I thought middle age was always around 45

When one is called a Buffalo (on more than one occasion),should it be taken serious? or a normal case of childish/adult abuse? or is this a blatant signal, there is no respect left, and now it's over?
Later apologies are not forthcoming!

Good to see a new Topic, err well at least 3 weeks since the last one!

"He said he would be very pleased if red-shirt co-leaders such as Jatuporn Promphan received Cabinet portfolios as well. Nattawut denied his appointment was the result of a discussion between him and any specific person" :
Of course not! who would ever have thought a thing like that?
So it looks like he knows something, and another Red Shirt will be joining the Cabinet soon, once the charges against him have been dropped.

Check out the write-up on K. Nalinee on the US Treasury Website, explaining why she's blacklisted. Makes her sound like a real piece of work and a beacon of integrity!
So according to that US Report, there has been plenty of economy with the Truth.

I'm sure with such a lavish Sin Sot,many Farangs will be thinking he has not done Farangs any Favours, to keep the Sin Sod within the bounds of reason. But little does he know in his ignorance,he has done himself even less of a favour! which he will find out too late, and if ever a Farang needed a wake up call it's him.
Bad experiences here, huh?
Not necessarily my own,but seen loads of others bad experiences.

I hear you…..One of my pet hates is being followed by a personal shopper, the second I cross the shop thresh hold, I find myself, very quickly no longer really shopping but trying to out run and out maneuver my new friend. I’ve tried to tell them I don’t need help, in Thai, but I might as well be talking Swahili. Sometimes if I have the devil in me I will try and start a ‘Benny Hill’ type chase…….No takers yet, but will keep trying.
Best tactic start asking as many questions as you can in anything but Thai language, they soon scamper off............................sometimes to return with an English speaking person where I tell them................Im only looking!!!
I don't think they will ever understand, the quickest way to drive people out of the store, without buying anything,is to follow them around and make them feel uncomfortable.

To be completely serious.
Considering the amount of money you spent on her 'big day', she didn't look all that happy.
Personally, I would have been disappointed.
In prior comments, you've stated that you think my wife is unattractive, compared her to an elephant, somehow decided I'm American, and expressed with confidence that Thai women are comfortable with public displays of affection. Given that you have no idea how much money was spent on our "big day", and that this would have no bearing on the happiness of anyone with some substance, I'm quite comfortable dismissing your opinion of her degree of happiness based upon a 3.5 minute video of a day-long event.
I think that people who believe that money should buy happiness are often disappointed.
Ahhh... the first hint that you did get the Sin Sot back?

Funny how the Thai government thinks they can tell another sovereign nation what to do. Makes me wonder if Thailand would warn its citizens.....
Your answer, "I doubt it" !!!!!! very much
Especially if it means loss of the almighty Tourist Baht!
Doesn'T Seem Quite Right...

But sadly Millions Worldwide have fallen for this Big Brother Garbage, because they can only cope with imaginary friends, just like infants at Nursery school.
It will all end in real tears! when they have to address reality!
