  1. I only ever met one Guy from Hawaii, a really nice biker fella, who could be taken for any American until he mentioned where he was from.

Sadly he slipped on those dam_n wet tiles, smashed his head in and died within the hour.

Off topic slightly but wet tiles have nearly done me in twice, treat them with the utmost respect, especially if they are not the non skid version of floor tiles.

  2. Why did they bother with the new low security jail for them if they're just going to get them released anyway?

Only to put on a show and save face. It's all in the master plan. Release the red army thugs in order to keep their support and use them in the next "peaceful" conflict.

Talk about transparency. Anyone who can't see through this is really stupid. After all one of them that is out on bail for terrorism charges is now going to be in the Yingluck cabinet.

Pathetic abuse of power by Morons!

  3. Mr. Blair is a decent and honourable man, although some may disagree. It is however, rather indicative that a positive event is used to vent the usual negativity. Surely, one can see the good that comes fromt his type of event. Jiminey,so many sourpusses.

Blair is Mrs Thatcher in trousers... and as for a decent guy, Thaksin is in the same league as Blair... Megalomaniacs together ... !

Mrs Thatcher absolutely adore her, Maggie in power enabled me to make money to be able to retire to Thailand, so smile.png.

Unfortunately Kwasaki, more people hated Thatcher than adored her.

That's the reason she never ever polled more than 44% of the peoples Votes!

But do try to keep the Thatcher Myth going.

  4. however I always get the impression that thailand doesnt want me here and if they could they would banish us all. i pay taxes and contribute to the local economy.

    You are right.

I'm on a retirement extension and have no delusions at all.

The day they no longer want my money is the same day they will stop extending my visa.

Anyone who thinks otherwise is dreaming.

    Agreed,

but there are plenty of western dreamers on TV,who have convinced themselves otherwise.

Clearly we are tolerated because we have money, nothing more, nothing less!

  5. There's not one country in the world where the government uses TAX PAYER money to pay the bail for terrorists and anarchists who tried to overthrow the government. For all the crap the Red apologists here have posted, I still have not read one example of any government in some other country paying the bail for some criminal the government is trying to prosecute in the first place. I guess we shouldn't be surprised. After all this is the PTP government. They can do as they hell please.

"After all this is the PTP government. They can do as they hell please."

Maybe you missed the links where the Fund was used in the same way under the Abhisit government.

Or maybe you missed the parts about the Fund being for everyone in Thailand who needs it - even Farang.

Or maybe you missed the parts about governments letting people out on bail without them actually paying the posted bail themselves.

Or maybe you were not aware that there are many circumstances where people are released on bail, but the monetary amount is not paid at all.

Or maybe you and the others just want a reason to rant at the red apologists. coffee1.gif

    So it's FREE BAIL Then!

  6. "the natives are revolting" big time, or maybe you haven't noticed yet.

As in George Orwells "Animal Farm" it took the Farm Animals sometime for them to realise the Pigs had taken over the Farm, and were much worse than the Humans. But in the end they noticed their error....too late.

PT, 6 months in Power and the cracks are appearing, reality will dawn in time, let's hope it's not too late for the people.

  7. This is surely a joke. It has to be.

Anybody ever seen this happen in any other country ....? I haven't and have lived in Asia for may many years ?? Wow!! totally incredible

    !!

Despite the government defenders' attempts to cloud the issue, I've never seen this happen in any other country.

    .

tlansford and his sidekicks poor attempt at comparing Scottish Bail with Thailands Bail system is sorely lacking!

Break your Bail in Thailand and you lose your Bail money, Break your Bail in Scotland and it carries 3mth to 12mth

Jail Sentence, over and and above any main Sentence, and also Electronic Tagging, and Reports to a Police Station,

so presumably this is enough of a deterrant, and hardly comparable with Thailands Free Bail System,eh?

    Comparison, case unproven!

  8. The justice fund, created and paid for by the government. Is for everyone. It is not a grant or a gift. It is a financial support for people who do not have the means to pay their legal expenses. This is recognized as a necessary support in many countries, not only in Thailand.

    What is your point again?

I don't think anyone has a problem with people being given support to provide them legal representation, but support to provide them bail is quite another thing. The whole idea of bail is to allow people freedom but with some sort of assurance of their return to court. I don't see how, if people are given the money, there is any assurance whatsoever.

And where does it all stop? If you are saying that it is unfair for a poor man to be kept in jail because he can't afford 100,000 baht bail, surely it is equally as unfair to keep a well off man, who can't afford 10 million baht bail, behind bars. Basically anyone who can't afford bail should, following your argument, be provided with the money for bail. Forgive me for saying this, but seems a complete nonsense to me.

Deal with the problem of court cases taking so long, sure. Don't start letting people free with no incentive, should they be guilty, for them to return.

    Agreed!

It is complete nonsense to give people free bail,it makes the whole thing a ridiculous International laughing stock.

The Courts may as well, let them all out with no Bail, which is virtually, what has been done,a kind of Bail on credit, never to be paid.

Any of the accused can jump Bail with no loss to them, and no gain to the Courts,or reason to return,if the case is going against them, just disappear before the Verdict is announced.

Start thinking too much about these crazy ill conceived decisions and it's the quickest route to the local asylum,

I must go and lay down.

  9. They should conduct health checks on all visitors arriving in Bangkok

    takes weeks my friend

    Yes !

And what about the Countries the visitors are returning to? as it takes so long for Aids to show up?

A tourist could have been to a dozen Countries, and had several HIV Tests, before being diagnosed with HIV many weeks later.

Hate to say it, but you are both wrong. It takes about 2 hours to have a blood test done and to get the result to see if you are Positive or Negative.

You are talking about the Aids Test, which is not the same as the point of infection, which can take many many weeks to show up as Positive.

  10. nothing beats the Madame Tussards double pricing !!!! , and it is well over the double the price of a Thai to enter in Bangkok .... i was quite shocked that an international company would have this policy here ......

And the original Madame Tussauds in London has to charge the same price to all,due to discrimination Laws!

Maybe Thailand has bought the Franchise???

  11. ^^^..You sound like Ludditeman...he was supporting this type of activity by saying "what harm does it do"

Well...to quote....""Possession of indecent images of children is not a victimless crime as each image possessed or distributed represents a child that has been sexually abused in order that the image can exist," McHugh said. "The circulation of those images around the internet magnifies that abuse.""

  12. Back in the dim and distant, well October 2000, when we were at the embassy submitting settlement applications for my wife and step-daughter I asked basically the same question. That is, why is a settlement visa over 4 times the cost of a visit visa?

The ECO I spoke to was quite forthcoming, and admitted that the extra work involved in processing the average settlement visa compared to the average visit visa was minimal. However, she pointed out that the settlement visa cost included the cost of future, in UK applications; i.e. ILR and, if required, FLR.

This seemed reasonable to me as at the time both FLR and ILR applications were free.

Then in 2003 the Labour government decided that what is now the UKBA should be self financing. They could not introduce a fee for every person passing through immigration at a UK port of entry, enforcement teams etc. So they introduced fees for in UK applications, including those for FLR and ILR. What they did not do is reduce the cost of settlement visas.

Despite vociferous opposition to this at the time from both the Conservatives and the LibDems, the coalition government have retained these fees and continued with Labours policy of regular, above inflation increases.

A cynical way of raising revenue which effects such a small percentage of the population that it has passed unnoticed by the majority.

I should add that I have absolutely no objection to paying a fair fee for a visa or leave to remain application; but the fees aren't fair.

Total cost in 2003 of visa and ILR: £260.

    Cost today:

    Visa: £810

ILR: £972 by post (£1350 in person).

    Total: £1782 (£2160).

Even more if entering the UK as a fiance or proposed civil partner or for some other reason need to make an FLR application; £550 by post, £850 in person.

That's nearly a sevenfold increase in just 8 years (and there'll be another increase in April); more if an FLR application is required and/or applying in person. Wish my income had gone up as much!

What can be done? To be blunt; nothing. As I said above, it's an easy way for the government to raise money which effects very few and so wont lose them many, if any, votes. Particularly as all the three main parties are committed to it.

Like all UK Citizens who wish to have their Spouses with them, the high Visa costs come as a shock, for both Settlement Visa and later ILR,but taking into account the real hidden value of affording them free NHS Medical care it is not so bad IMO.

given the choice of cheap Visas,or free health care,I wouldn't think many would opt for a cheap Visa.

Also after 1 year in the UK,they are entitled to free ESOL Courses to help improve their English towards ILR,the cost of a 1 year Course, would recover almost half of the initial Settlement Visa alone.

  13. Expect more of the same from David Cameron, after all he was a advisor to Margaret Thatcher.

Good Oh, after all Maggie squared away the financial dung heap Labour left her, and quelle surprise, Cameron has now to do the same with the disaster that Bliar and his incontinent one eyed sidekick left him.

Yes Maggie did lots of things - she destroyed all heavy industry, sold off state assets, created record mass unemployment all to serve her idea that the UK should become a "service economy". Oh Yes she did screw Arthur Scargill - the biggest idiot ever produced by the Trades Union movement.

But where has her service economy taken the UK?

The start of the Road to Ruin, along with her other misguided policies.

  14. Tony Blair "International statesman"cheesy.gif

Love Blair or Hate him,his Party, looked after the working classes, something you will never ever see the Tories do.

Whilst Cameron and Clegg have been pruning any benefit in sight, they have today announced a new Motorway from London to Birmingham,4 miles of the Motorway will have a tunnel, and they have already bought the boring/drills,at a cost of £80 million.

    Some bankrupt Country eh?

oh almost forgot, this years Foreign Aid allocation is: £30 Billion

Ah, yes, the European socialist - solidarity to your own wallet and not towards your fellow (browner) man.

Your entitled to think that if you wish. But what sort of politician announces 18 months before he goes that he will hand power to Brown.

He left the country in limbo as no one wanted to do business with someone who wasn't going to be around much longer. They both were inept at their jobs and what has happened since has proven that.

Who sold the countries gold reserves at the worse possible time?

Who Backed Bush over weapons of mass destruction, and took the country to war on a fabricated lie? He has the blood of working class soldiers on his hands, That's how well he has looked after the working classes!

He was is and always will be a plonker who has no real idea of real politics. He became UN envoy to the Middle east peace process. Even the Palestinians hate him and wish he would go away.

Gordon Browns sell off of our Gold Reserves was a major error on his part, but compared with Maggie Thatcher and her thieving Tory Government/and subsequent Tory Governments, what they sold off wholesale during 18 years in power,Browns error was totally insignificant in financial comparison. The percentage of what was sold off of the UK Public Assets during the Tory eighteen years of Feeding Frenzy /Tory Asset Stripping was horrendous, the bulk of the UK is now owned by Foreign interests, who profit in the UK,and send the Proceeds back home to Europe or America. In case you are unaware, the UK does not even own it's Utility Companies any more.

Expect more of the same from David Cameron, after all he was a advisor to Margaret Thatcher.

  15. The new English international statesman Cameron has to sit on the back rows for the photo opportunity in Europe and he is so well liked that people just walk past him and totally ignore and blank him out, His side kick George just take look at him looks as if he is a retard sitting nodding in the house of commons, at least Gordon led from the front in Europe and also at the front at the G20. Gordon was a statesman who lead from the front and a gentleman.

The difference is Brown kissed a*se and played the game. Cameron has told them to go <deleted> themselves

He made some noises a few weeks ago,now watch him back peddle!he won't carry through the veto, neither will he give the British People the Referendum on Europe he promised, just like Blair he will renade on the Election promise

  16. I suspect its not just Thailand, where people become Neutral to all Nationlistic issues.

Firstly it needs two open minded people, who are prepared to talk to each other, without preconcieved ideas,of historical origins.

Away from their homeland, there is no point in saying you only speak to your own Countrymen, there is not that many to choose from to start with.

Approach each individual with friendliness, and as often as not it will generate a favourable response.

I am English and I used to have an, Iraqi friend, you may say so what?,well it was through the Iraq 2 War,how did we manage to put this aside and become friends, well we agreed I didn't start Iraq 2,and neither did he,so we started with a clean unbiased slate, and no apologies necessary.

I won't name Countries and Historical grievances, but there are many Countries that have Nationalistic hates and inbred differences from hundreds of years ago,and all handed down to their children and great Grand Children, who have often never met one of the hated, nationality in question.

Having met many different Nationalities in Thailand,I'm glad I didn't miss out on making some good friends amongst them.

As the old saying goes "The sins of the fathers should not fall on the Sons"

  19. And while they are at it,how about going back a little farther in Thai History? to 2003,and compensate the bereived for Thaksins war on drugs, and the 2500 - 3000 who where slaughtered in a 3 month killing spree, of which there is still no sign of anyone being prosecuted for Murder,or Unjudicial killings.

Difficult to remind you here, but a little research will tell you it was sanctioned / approved and possibly suggested by other parties.

    Possibly not wholly his idea.

And by the way, supported by a huge majority of the population, which I suppose says a lot about the population......

Who was reported as saying "Bring them in dead or alive" ?????????
