  1. Another vote for Darik's. I used it and then had a look at the disk. It shreds the partition table into a load of tiny partitions. It appeared that the entire disk was filled with partition table data, over-writing just about all of whatever was on there before. Haven't used it in some years, and it appears it hasn't been updated in a while. https://www.lifewire.com/dban-dariks-boot-and-nuke-review-2619130 The newer versions of Windows create private partitions to hold Win data, which is why the partition table needs to be destroyed for cleanup. If you want to fix the partition table afterward (as a courtesy to to whoever you're giving the system to) use a Linux installable booted from a pen drive or CD. There is a bootable Linux utility called gparted that I prefer -- easy to use. If you want to be a rascal after the destruction is done fill the disk up with useless junk. If you suspect someone will attempt to recover what is on the disk that junk will keep them busy. ????
  2. It looks like US law enforcement is opening up a new initiative on what I guess can be called "cyber larceny." Fake gofundme-type scams (like the Santos and the veteran's dog scandal), attention given to eBay sellers who are doing too well selling things there is no record of them buying, and that's just for starters. Politicians doing campaign fundraising where the $$$ goes to fancy living (eg 'That's my money!' Trump exploded at Brad Parscale over stories about his lavish lifestyle and spending, book says ). Word going around that T____'s special prosecutor is looking at his stolen election fundraising as wire fraud.
  3. Smart move using those stickers with the marijuana leaf, no doubt the customs inspectors appreciate the convenience.
  4. Guilfoyle is probably the most politically savvy one in the family cabal. Before you tell me how ridiculous that sounds, look at the rest of that bunch.
  5. It's just until after the 2024 election, then she gets paid off and goes home, providing she doesn't fall from a balcony. Will be interesting to see how they push this: books? Lifetime channel movie starring a female wrestler? Her own show on RT?
  6. I had an inguinal hernia repaired in 1985. Thirty years later ruptured again. The doctor (in the US) explained that they had opened me up and stitched it back then, but that now (meaning 2017) it was done with a piece of mesh and no so much of the surface skin is slashed. There have been discussions involving the mesh on the forum before, at least one poster told of complications. The surgeon did tell me that if something went off after this mesh placement, it would be a Big Deal to fix it. Excuse me for straying from the OP's question, but I am currently pending a decision on this: my doctor is telling me I need a colonoscopy, I haven't had one in six years, and not since that 2nd hernia repair. Every so often I'll get an ache in the spot in my abdomen, usually has to do with slight constipation or indigestion. I suspect there may be something tenuous with this 2nd repair, and I'm concerned that the colonoscopy probe might do some damage. I've been researching this, and have been told it shouldn't be a problem. The idea is to avoid the consequences of cancer, but I'm concerned the detection process could offer result in something just as bad, and immediate. Anyone? Sorry for the distraction, does this warrant its own thread?
  7. Saw a documentary not long ago about China mapping the ocean floor in the Pacific area. It centered on how they are seeking mineral resources, looks like people who made the film weren't thinking about scavenging wrecks, but the Chinese are. When I traveled the Indonesia area I came across names of places I had only heard in the WWII movies I saw when I was a kid. We can only imagine what's down there.
  8. I remember when it happened, Corcoran and another attorney had to sign something that said they verify that all confidential documents have indeed been returned. Both were reluctant to do that, and did so with CYA language. Good for them.
  9. That's what the torch is for. Buying and selling sex is a terrible thing. Rental, on the other hand, much more practical.
  10. A president with a sense of humor! Haven't had one of those in a while.
  11. My guess is some GOP pollster said that this anti-Disney stuff has legs, now every sociopathic GOP hopeful is going to pile on. Disney is the new antifa.
  12. One of the few things I liked about Ronald Reagan's presidency is that he snubbed the Christian Right. Twice. They've gotten their act together and ever since they have declared each GOP president was put there by God. There are Christian churches and congregations that offer good works and charity, but too often it's about making money: religious organizations are tax exempt. "God is green" said a famous preacher. There is one such who has a whole fleet of private jets.
  13. Eventually they screw over the wrong person who talks about it publicly and it might shame them. When hotels in the Asoke started giving guests pamphlets on how to deal with police stopping them on the street for drug testing our BiB friends began behaving themselves.
  14. Someone should start a religion that promises Hell, no reprieves. "Bound for Hell: wait until you see what we've done with the place!" God has a plan to prepare a new heaven and Earth with a better climate This sounds like an end of days thing. Every so often a US Christian cult has an end of the world day, e.g. a week from Tuesday, day of reckoning and all that. They don't go to work, kids don't go to school so they can all go together. Tuesday comes and goes, on Wednesday it's back to normal. Pillow Guy used this same schtick for his political stunts.
  15. I suspect some rascality from certain forum members, who are snatching chains just for the sake of keeping threads like coming.
  16. Poor poor victimized authoritarian governor. Ron is thinking he should have married an escort, it helped at least one guy become president. But when up against whatsisname with the foreign-born wife, he can do patriot posturing.
  17. The first time I heard of Ike&Tina was when they opened for the Stones on their 1969 tour. Madison Square Garden, 26,000 capacity, could only get lousy seats up near the ceiling, stage was equiv. to a block away. Like watching dancing peas with the radio on. I don't recall Mick and Tina doing a duet. Some years later Tina was on a US tv show doing a duet with Rod Stewart. It was more like two individual performances grafted together on film, zero electricity between them. The critics were urinating all over themselves and could not praise the performance enough. Go figure.
  18. Queen of the Deuce Stumbled across this in the t listings. Anyone who experienced midtown Manhattan in the 1970s should appreciate it. If you watched Mrs Maisel you might get the impression one of the more eccentric characters on that show was based on this woman: I do.
  19. Kind of weird that a person who dresses in a way to draw attention to themselves thinks they can can do certain things and not be noticed.
