Did I say this anywhere? No, I don't defend them. But it seems to me the USA depends on a lot of cheap labor. And what is the cheapest labor? Probably illegal immigrants. So, what will happen if those cheap labor is not there anymore? In general, I think laws should be obeyed and enforced. Nobody should enter any country illegally. And criminals should be punished/jailed/deported.

Really? I see people buying cheap and bad quality again and again and again. -
Task Force Launched to Tackle Substandard Product Influx
OneMoreFarang replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
Sometimes yes, but often people buy the cheapest of the cheapest. I.e. electrical power bars cost maybe 50B or 100B or 200B. Many Thais will buy the 50B and will have problems. They could buy the 100B or 200B version but somehow, they don't. Like: Is there a difference? YES! -
I am looking forward to all those Americans doing the work which (illegal) immigrants used to do cheap. Harvesting fruits and vegetables, maids, etc. I guess that will be good for the national health. People will lose a lot of weight working in those jobs.

News travel over borders these days. When the want to be immigrants heard that the Americans voted from Trump again, they decided they don't want to live in Trumpistan.

I live in a condominium. Hundreds of deliveries every day. I am pretty sure nobody signs them. Some delivery guys phone and tell me there is a delivery. Probably more are calling and let it rings barely one time and then they hang up. I guess they want to save money on phone calls. The good news is that until now I don't think anything ever got lost.

Maybe the problem is that many Thais buy cheap, cheap, cheap. Then it breaks down and they buy again cheap, cheap, cheap. If they would think a little, they wouldn't do that... -
Young Woman's Tragic End Highlights Gambling Dangers
OneMoreFarang replied to snoop1130's topic in Hua Hin and Cha-Am News
There are already probably thousands of illegal casinos in Thailand. All controlled by those influential people and the BiB. Legal casinos, with regulations, could make this problem better. But it seems the current casino discussion is not about making the situation better for those existing casinos. They just want to add pompous new casinos. Sad. -
Young Woman's Tragic End Highlights Gambling Dangers
OneMoreFarang replied to snoop1130's topic in Hua Hin and Cha-Am News
It seems too many people have that problem. If they would think then they would understand that long term they can't win. But they still play and play and play. My gf had a friend for many years who ended up gambling all day. Now they have little contact anymore. The friend just gambles and gambles and gambles and there seems to be no way to stop her. Sad. -
Any tips dealing with health insurance agents
OneMoreFarang replied to global expat's topic in Insurance in Thailand
Not sure about that. But obviously we can ask an agent how his offer is compared to others out there. He should know his competition and he should know if they are cheaper, better, whatever. -
Any tips dealing with health insurance agents
OneMoreFarang replied to global expat's topic in Insurance in Thailand
A long time ago in a country far away I was an insurance agent. One important rule for us was: Tell the truth - but maybe not the whole truth. If we would not tell the truth that could have bad consequences for our job and working with insurance companies. Not telling the whole truth had no consequences. You should ask questions, a lot of questions. And maybe you should ask the agent if you can record your meeting. Then the agent will think twice before he lies. You could ask i.e. if what the agent suggested is the only option. Are there other policies? Are there options that you pay the first x amount by yourself. Ask! And in most cases talk with several agents and compare. And, if you are not 100% healthy, then make sure to answer all the questions in the application form correctly. Don't let anything out! Maybe the agent will tell you that hospital visit 10 years ago was not really important, or that ear infection last year. But if you don't mention it, and they you have to go to the hospital the next year, then maybe the insurance will look for things which you didn't tell them. And depending on what they found they won't pay. Obviously, we all want to be insured and don't pay anything extra. But the most important part is not just that you are insured, but that the insurance actually pays if you need them. And for that they should not have a reason not to pay. Lots of agents are only interested in (high) commissions. Other are fair. It's difficult to tell them apart. I can recommend one agent in Bangkok who I know for 20 years. If you are interested, PM me. -

Like Trump who tells us he will take control of Gaza? It would be funny if it wouldn't be so sad. -
In Case You Missed it, the Tattoo Fad is Over

Something like below, often a lot uglier, seems to be pretty common these day with the Nana girls. I wonder how much laser treatment would be necessary to remove something like that. And how would it look after that treatment? -

Maybe instead of doing that you should make sure your kids are more careful. -
Cost of a car in Bangkok?
OneMoreFarang replied to OneMoreFarang's topic in Thailand Motor Discussion
Thanks! I don't plan to transport anything big for which I would need a pickup. An "ordinary car" is probably better suitable. 90% use for one or two people only. -
Can Foreign Tourists in Pattaya Expect Fair Legal Treatment?
OneMoreFarang replied to webfact's topic in Pattaya News
It seems some tourists are just stubborn and unrealistic. I.e. sometimes some tourists argue about a couple of hundred THB for some drinks. I saw a guy who didn't want to pay and asked for the police. The police explained to him if he doesn't pay, they have to arrest him. He still didn't want to pay, and the police did arrest him. What an idiot! Be realistic! If you can't win, then don't fight as if you can. Compromise! And think before you do stupid things like giving your passport to anybody and rent something. -
I know this is a little like how long is a piece of string, so let's add some details. I live in the middle of Bangkok and most of the time I ride my own motorcycle. Sometimes I use a taxi to go to places which are outside of the city. And sometimes I use a taxi because I want to transport something heavy. Most of the time taxis do the job, but sometimes they are annoying. Maybe they are the annoying taxi-no-meter, maybe there are just very few taxis, etc. And the situation is the same with Bolt. Yesterday about 9:30 Bolt showed sometimes 30min waiting time or no cars available at all. For this reason, I consider buying a car. I have a license in Thailand, and I drove hundred thousand kilometers in cars in Europe. In Thailand I never owned a car. If I buy a car, it should just do the job, like a boring taxi. I don't want to buy any fancy expensive car. The main points are that the car should be reliable and not expensive to run. With expensive to run I mean no high insurance cost, no high maintenance cost, etc. A new car would be nice and there would be low maintenance cost. But cars lose a lot of value in the first years. So, a used car is maybe a better option. But I really don't want the hassle to have defects which have to be repaired. Normal maintenance like new brake pads or something like that is fine. But please no bigger problems which cost a lot of money. About how much money would I have to pay to buy a 2nd hand car in good condition, maybe low milage? And what are the monthly cost for maintenance, insurance, etc. Does it make any sense to buy a car if I would use it only maybe once a week? What is your experience? I live in a condominium; I don't want an EV.
