For a scam to work it should be believable. If I would get a phone call from someone who claims to be someone official then likely I just wouldn't believe that person. Worst case I would ask for the name of the government administration and the name of the person and maybe some case number and with that information I would find out the official address of that department and go there or maybe let my accountant call them or something like that.

I agree. Often there is an initial article with little information and then nothing anymore. People can speculate, but we never know what actually happened and then what happened to the good guys or bad guys or whatever.

Do any real Thai officials call farangs for whatever reason? I don't think I ever received a phone call from an official. I think normally we receive letters.

I don't know if that is true. But that is independent of the fact if the drugs are legal or illegal.

If it would be legal then it could be sold in high quality. One of the problems with illegal drugs is that on the supply chain many people mix it with many other substances, some of them are poisonous. The end customers buy something is some kind of quality mixed with something else. No specifics. It seems that is a big part of the health problems of drugs. If people would use poor cocaine, then that problem would not exist. And if it wasn't illegal then it would not have huge profit margins for criminals. And addicts wouldn't commit lot of crimes to make money to buy the drugs. Is it a good solution to legalize these drugs? No. But listening to experts, like senior police, legalizing would probably be the best option.

If you like Lower Sukhumvit, then why don't you move to that area? I live in that area since almost 30 years, and I wouldn't want to live anywhere else. I am more than 90% of my time in walking distance to my condominium. Sometimes I actually walk, more often I ride motorcycle because I am lazy. I have lots of restaurants, bars and shops right next to me. Look i.e. at Soi 8. At one end you have nightlife and restaurants. A little further into the soi it's quiet. Some time ago I had a friend who worked in Bang Khae and liked to go out in Soi Cowboy and surrounding. First, he lived near his work in a nice house in a quiet area. And most nights he drove with his car to Soi Cowboy and then later, more or less drunk, back. Then he rented an apartment in Soi 16 walking distance to Soi Cowboy. He had to drive to work every day. But he liked that a lot more than the previous arrangement. IMHO live where you want to be. Why drive when you can walk a short distance?

Just google "conservative values" and then compare this with Trump. Or just listen to almost all conservatives in the GOP in the 2016 primaries and what they said about Trump at that time. Trump didn't really change. Principles of conservatism didn't change. Greedy spineless GOP politicians changed so that they can stay on the trough.

I doubt that people with conservative values like Trump. Ask conservatives if they want a convicted criminal to be their president? Ask conservatives if they want to live with under the rule of law with checks and balances. The list goes on and on. Brain washed MAGA idiots love Trump. And some greedy people support Trump.

Then why would you want to live there? Sukhumvit Soi 24 is for sure more expensive than many other areas in Bangkok - for a reason. Obviously, there is also something to discover in Sathorn and many other areas. But there is a reason why many farangs live in Sukhumvit. Here is a lot of what many of us want.

Imagine you would live in Gaza, with decades of occupation and suppression from Israel. Would you just sit back and accept that they stole your land? And would you accept to be a prisoner without rights for the rest of your life? Maybe you would accept that. Or more likely you wouldn't accept it but somehow you think they should accept it. I understand that most Palestinians hate their occupier. Desperate people do desperate things.
