  1. Half falang sounds like halfling, a hobbit in other words. Anyway I'm interested to know "where he's from", meaningless as that phrase is! Where're you from? Bognor. Oh, you're Cypriot then? No, I don't know if there are any Cypriots in Bognor, but just to illustrate my point. 555.
  2. I got a UK passport for my one year old Thai/UK/Kiwi daughter. I had to prop her up in an arm chair to get a decent photo! She has 3 now, (added kiwi later on by descent, basically because it was available) but only ever uses her UK one. I'm sure the Thai one will come in handy one day. And her ID card, more importantly.
  3. Excellent summary. I'd just add, that many inexperienced or just plain bad drivers use their brakes constantly. They haven't realised they're moving relative to other traffic and 9 times out of 10, don't need to jam on the brakes, the engine will slow them sufficiently. And it's often a dead giveaway for the guy on front is on the phone, so he's looking up and looking down, moving around the road and braking unpredictably. Stay well away from these people.
  4. I think if he came in on a foreign passport, technically he can be.
  5. I meant as an excuse. In any case the art of good driving lies in anticipation. See it coming (and you usually can) and you can adjust direction, speed whatever. It's called defensive driving. Also, constantly check 50-100m up the road, check mirrors all the time, check your indicators aren't on when you're not manoeuvring. Look for hazards, roadworks, road furniture, stationary unlit vehicles at night.
  6. It's called the "Porta immigrant worker death trap mk IV". Can illegally hold up to 10.
  7. So what? It's like the infamous, and much derided/lampooned, "Yes, but where are you really from" for Asian Americans. Or, for that matter, 90% of Americans with bizarre names like Schnauzer, Molotov, Bangus, Tilapia, Inkfish etc etc. Does anyone know whence these people came? Moravia? Lithuania? Eastern Madhouse?
  8. Doubt that if he's wanted by immigration for overstay. Sure, he might have come in on a UK passport, but having Thai nationality would probably reduce the overstay penalty. But maybe not. Maybe. I guess. Could be....
  9. Many many on Lazada. All shapes and sizes, logoless and logo'd. They're called beer bottle sleeves.
  10. Some diverse sources on diverse aspects of Russian and soviet population control and ethnicity and possible future demographics. As for art and culture, what can be said of Putin's destruction of criticism of not only the war in Ukraine but of any aspect of the ruling ideology, ie the ideology of the ruling class? Or ruling despot. https://www.washingtonpost.com/world/2024/07/29/russia-culture-artists-putin-nationalism/ https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Population_transfer_in_the_Soviet_Union https://www.atlanticcouncil.org/content-series/russia-tomorrow/a-russia-without-russians-putins-disastrous-demographics/ https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ethnic_groups_in_Russia
  11. Well, I guess many of the Catholic IRA or Protestant UDF did see such atrocities first hand, and they carried a lot out in retaliation. But no, I don't have any evidence of Islamic terrorists' experiences, direct or indirect, of the many wars waged by the West in their home countries or in the Middle East or in Afghanistan. Many, if not all, had been wilfully radicalised by cynical agents who manipulated them for their own ends. Which of course were, to attack "the West", or quite possibly another Islamic sect, and cause as much pain and hurt and suffering as possible. Suicide bombers operated all over the middle east. In fact, globally. But I repeat, they were radicalised youth, male and female, who believed what they were doing was part of a holy war, or for whatever other loopy reason. So it's the orchestrators of the bombings, shootings and knifings who are really to blame. And what really are their motives? A desire for what?
  12. I was being ironic, but I guess you knew that.
  13. Oh god, "illegal" immigration again. is there a thread this doesn't get dragged into? You can obtain Thai citizenship. There are rules. But it is possible and several foreigners who used to post here did just that.
  14. Which could be to do with retaliation for having your family blown to pieces in front of your eyes, your neighbour's legs ripped off, being tortured by invading forces for days, weeks, months on end, your country totally destroyed, your way of life, your livelihood. What a few crazies in Europe commit is horrendous, but compared to the combined military might of the UK and the US? Is there any real comparison? Massive bombs from 30,000 ft, or a lone lunatic with a knife? You at least have a chance against him. Oh, and not forgetting the likes of Anders Behring Brevik. He wasn't a Muslim, was he? Killed 77 in one day, all totally innocent young people. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Anders_Behring_Breivik
  15. All you're shown, you mean? Look further. You might find a human being.
  16. When in Pattaya I buy Siamburi's no name. Well it does have a name but not one I recognise. I'm in Philippines so it's Anchor. There are some euro brands but twice the price. On wholewheat, I cover it in a thick layer of Philadelphia cream cheese. Then either mortadella or pastrami on top. Jalapenos and black olives to finish off. But don't cook with it!
  17. I too went through Filipina rehab. In Ban Chang, Rayong. 6 months careful nursing by the sweet ladies on the little strip there, cold Guinness in the oirish bar, with English footie, and excellent draught cider, and speckled hen at the bar come b and b whose name I can't remember, and I was right as rain. Great little condo apartment too.
  18. Horrid butter to my taste, along with Kiwi Anchor. Colonial era crap.
  19. Yeah, never quite sure if it was a wrinkle, and remember to tie your ankle to the bedpost.
