  1. Ah, that's a different story. Theoretically, the police are supposed to do this, it's the law. I haven't heard of this being done in a long time, but it's considered normal.
  2. Varies from province to province. We had a police visit 7 and 9 years ago, likely because a jealous neighbour didn't like my building a wall. However, they did explain that there had been a wave of spouse visa scams, mostly organised from Nigeria, in the general area. They don't receive given instructions to investigate Nigerians, they are told to investigate everybody. + of course, Farang will be generous with tea money, just to get rid of them.
  3. She thinks that the IGRC is strictly an Israeli problem. The IRGC sponsors and finances terrorism about 90% of terrorism and terrorist groups in the world, including the USA. Like most Americans, apparently, she is unaware of this. Then there's the little matter of them refusing to cease developing a nuclear bomb + missiles. 10 years of negotiations....
  4. Immigration police regularly (every few years) starts checking up on Farangs, especially those on Spouse visas, when they find that abuses of the visa rules are getting out of hand. Clever Farang always find loophole. Seems to me that you are being overly paranoid.
  5. We get this kind of remark mostly from America. Iran has been financing and encouraging terrorism not only in the Middle East, but all over the world, including the USA, which they don't seem to be aware of. Negotiations about nuclear weapons and developing ballistic missiles have been going on for 10 years now. Then there's the oil that they deliver to China, regulating that would possibly be a good thing?
  6. At the moment, only people with Starlink phones in Iran can reliably use their phones. Not that the Main Stream media report on what their videos show. Land based carriers are still the best method for now.
  7. Pathetic. The nuclear program was stopped, destroyed. We hoped they'd take the hint. Then they started it up again, along with ballistic missiles and daily chants of "death to America". I fail to follow your "argument".
  8. Who cares? I don't like Trump either, and have no idea if these conspiracy theories about his motives are true. However, I DO like what he's doing in Iran, and so do most Iranians. Sit back and let these g**t f*****s develop nuclear weapons and ballistic missiles? And watch as executions continue? That's what Biden would have done, which is your alternative (or maybe Kamala). <removed> has gotten to your brain.
  9. I was recently quoted ฿25 000.- for a private cataract operation, but he works in a public hospital. I probably will use his services eventually.
  10. The Thais are getting sick and tired of this kind of behaviour. Seems to me that I read about this kind of stuff every day, and so am I.
  11. I am well known as the world's expert on toe amputations, so this is definitely the right place to ask. The answer is, I don't know and nor will anyone else that isn't: 1. a doctor, and 2. has actually examined you. Sorry about that.
  12. If your pension gets stopped and a demand for life certificate never arrives, then you can call: 001441 9121 87777. Get ready for a long wait, and also prepare your date of birth, insurance number, in my case date of marriage, etc. If you get through the conversation, the money will arrive pretty soonish. I do this every two years as I have never received mail from theUK pensions apart from the first one confirming my pension. The notices are not sent out regularly, so it's no good printing out and sending the form when you feel it might be time. There is only a three months period every year when you can do this. Personally, I prefer the telephone conversation to getting someone to sign the form, going to the post office and sending it by registered mail, which cost nearly ฿1000.- last time.
  13. Not quite as bad as it once was, but Thai music festivals, weddings, etc, generally involve some violence. Then there's the rivalry between schools in Bangkok. Come on, guys. last week it was the Chinese, now it's the Farangs. Our new prime minister doesn't like "dirty Farangs" causing Covid outbreaks.
  14. Well. it's always about plan B, isn't it? As I understand it, palliative care in Thailand is pretty limited. If I contract something painful, I might want to go back home to die among strangers. Not a pleasant prospect. As someone mentioned above, my wife, granddaughter and in-laws + dogs would look after me if I went into a slow decline, so I prefer to end here, possibly a few years earlier than if I had gone back home. I don't have private health insurance, back home (Switzerland) I would immediately receive first class care.
  15. Not sure about that, here in Isaan at least, the posters disappear within two days after elections.
  16. I for one am not imolying it, I'm stating it. Nothing to do with open-mindness, more to do with spreading diseases, unnatural use of the body. It isn't crucial to accept it at all.
  17. When I rstarted running and racing 6 years ago (age 71) I was constantly being approached by younger guys. For some reason, this stopped a year or two later. Can't understand why, I get more attractive every day.
  18. I have overheard an immigration telling an obviously quite frail older guy, that he could get an officer to come visit him. This would doubtless involve a "fee". I would call immigration before paying an agent.
  19. In our Isaan village at least, if you don't go from house to house with envelopes, you won't get elected.
  20. The "Insufficient means of support" (you're supposed to have ฿20 000.- cash on arrival) is a handy means of getting rid of all sorts of undesirables. Not all, but it does get used for that.
  21. My granddaughter now drives us about, since I drove into a ditch last year. I really don't mind, but she'll be leaving home in a year's time.
  22. There's is nothing wrong, either linguistically or etymologically, with the word Farang. It means Caucasian. Probably originates in a Persian word something like 'Ferengi', meaning just that.
  23. Here wego. This case is what I am actually experiencing now. Not hypothetical. I am at CKD stage 4. This started many years ago. so is a pre-condition that we weren't aware of.
  24. Why are you insisting on this? I was taking CKD as an example, there are others. My point was, that at age 75+, you will most likely have a "pre-existing condition" that will make an insurance pointless. High blood pressure is another example.
  25. Who said "go straight into dialysis"?
