I also have a USA account - Checking, and Brokerage. Agree with the concensus - Excellent CS, No hassles, Full reimbursement. They for years offered a 100 USD bonus for opening the 2 accounts. Do a search - they may still offer it.

About every 2 weeks the same basic thread. OP - Your question has been answered, or at least you have heard both.sides. If you want to read these same arguments for the next week, do a search of your question and read the same repetitive endless arguments on countless previous threads. I suggest the thread be closed before it becomes an 18 page rehash of the thread from 2 weeks ago which was a rehash of the thread from 2 weeks before that, etc.

The last post in the above thread has my calculation of what I paid in my 1st experience with Amazon's Estimated Import Deposit. I called up week or 2 after it arrived to ask the same question the OP did. It felt like the CS rep hadn't heard of any of this previously - he asked me to hold so he can check with someone, came back what felt like much too quickly and told me it was collected in full, no refund. I felt nobody had checked. A few days later I got an email from Amazon stating the amount of my refund - detailed in the linked thread. So the CSR had checked with someone who told him "Say that it was all collected" as a way of not bothering to check into it. NOTE - I made about 7 Amazon orders in the same period of time. I had first priced out a few weeks earlier what they would cost with Amazon including shipping and Estimated Import Deposits. When I was ready to make the purchases (about 6 - 8 weeks ago) they were no longer collecting the Deposits for all except 1 item and that item now no longer has the Deposit collected. So hopefully Amazon is no longer involved in collected the Estimates and the OP's dilemna will no longer exist.

They state that the customer will not be charged anything additional (they will cover it). That is (at least 1 reason) why they tend to overestimate greatly.

"When a seller/Amazon collects the duty at source..." Amazon does not collect the duty, they collect an estimate of the duty and tax, and state that if it is too much the overage will be refunded. I agree with the OP that there should be an accounting and notification /confirmation of what was collected. Agree with you that Amazon should provide it.

Yes, they are tracking/data mining devices. And people pay them to spy on them, but part of the package is people get to make/receive phone calls (which the people pay for).

I went to Siam TV in Chiang Mai, and exited as quickly as possible. They are blasting advertisements at top volume from many locations, each area blasting something different but it is all played simultaneously. Nonstop. Very recently I made the mistake of going to Wat Doi Kham (also in CM). I should have told the driver to wait 5 minutes - I would have jumped back in the car and told him to take me back home. An endless loop is playing at top volume with 4 foot speakers placed all over the entire grounds so there is no escaping it. A man is speaking in Thai - as soon as he stops, there is literally about 3 - 5 seconds of silence, and then it begins again. Over and over endlessly. I asked my Thai friend what is being said, and was told "I bought a garland to show my love of God". So there is a non-stop extremely loud advertisement trying to manipulate people to spend money. Walked down the driveway to get away from the horrible racket, then I called for another car and escaped as soon as possible. How can anyone in charge think either of these places are offering a comfortable environment for customers/visitors? Insanity!
