  1. Your visa service is correct in suggesting you keep trying different banks. even different branches of the same bank. It might help to try it in an area where there are a lot of foreigners, as the staff get more used to doing it. Sorry, but I cannot help re a visa agent or someone like that to help you open an account. Maybe ask a lawyer? it might cost though. You obviously wiil need some paperwork, including copies of passport and proof of address. I used a Certificate of Residence obtained from Imiigration.
  2. My plan is to try and cut back on some day to day spending, bring in a large chunk of cash each time I return to home country, and use that to reduce what goes through bank account. Also try and pay any large bills with my home country credit card or the cash brought in. Maybe gift GF some money to pay daughters's annual school fees and extra curricular lessons she has.
  3. It all seems a bit too late and pointless anyway. Hasn't he already been given a pardon from on high? Leave him be to play with his grandchildren.
  4. The cancer cases must already have been there. The program has just brought them to the fore. I wonder what the main causes are here in Thailand. Smoking? Excessive use of chemicals in farming? Pollution? Additives in food? Deep frying everything?
  5. If they are indeed meteorites, they will certainly feel refreshed if they are worth a few quid. Normally they are quite valuable. Maybe not so much if they are just turds from a high flying airliner.
  6. Why? Can't he just pardon himself once in Office?
  7. And pay themselves quite handsomely it seems. I'm alright Jack.
  8. Get one of these from Lazada: https://www.ecoflow.com/us/delta-2-portable-power-station Should be enough to power an air fryer. I bought the smaller one, the River Pro in the 11/11 sales, due to constant brown outs. Got it for running a few fans. 765W, but my fans are rated 46W. Already have emergency lights. Typical. The minute I bought it, we haven't had any power cuts or brown outs. Even with all the recent bad weather. But it's charged up and ready. I even bought a solar panel to charge it once the Sun comes out. 🙂
  9. Who was it that coined the phrase, "Good guys in. Bad guys out"?
  10. Well there isn't much work for estate agents, (realtors in US parlance) in China after the liquidation of the Evergrande Group.
  11. No doubt if, or when caught, the usual wai and apology will be forthcoming. As if that is enough to absolve them of their actions.
  12. It's not so much the insurance companies charging "Farang" price. It's more the hospitals charging, "Insurance company is paying" price.
  13. Removing them might not be that easy. They have almost five years to do what they need to stop that. The only good thing is every time Starmer's goons, and the thoughts and feeling police haul someone in for questioning over a perceived, real or fake slight, that person, their spouses, families, and perhaps friends, will likely turn against Labour and remember it come election time. The Police aren't coming out of this too well either.
  14. While I would love it to happen, just to see Queer Starmer's face when he heard the news, I think that such donations from foreigners opens up a can of worms we don't need. Even if genuine, allegations of buying influence would abound. That saying "You don't get something for nothing" rings a warning bell here..
  15. Oh Daddy! What should I do?
  16. The other option if she (or you) can afford it, might be to get a private teacher for extra lessons in the subjects she is weak in.
  17. Then imagine how many British nationals feel about how all this unchecked illegal immigration is affecting their lives. Public services are falling apart, and the Thought Police are out to stop anyone saying anything bad about this Government.
  18. Sorry Thingamabob. I didn't mean to scare you. I was just being sarcastic for our troll.
  19. Took the daughter to school. A lot of standing water before Samui Town Centre, coming from Fisherman' Village. Also down the road, just past the airport departures entrance. Must have been pretty heavy last night, but I didn't hear it.
  20. are not aligned with us. Us? Was that a slip up?
  21. This is from an excerpt of a reply on Reddit regarding getting Google Voice outside the US. Don't know how true: it's pretty easy to get a US-based GV number by "borrowing" the cell phone number of a friend in the USA for one-time verification of the account. (You can unlink that number later, without consequences in my experience, and just use GV via VoIP.) There is other information about UK Google Voice Paid Business Plans at £8, £15 and £24 per month, but they are too expensive for what the OP's and indeed my own limited usage requires.
  22. Apparently with Google Voice it is possible to buy credit for international calls.
  23. Look at it this way. After the butt lift, you will at least have somewhere to rest your pint.
  24. If you have a friend that you can trust, that is willing to let you use their address, I would ask them. Having a UK address to accept mail, new credit/debit cards, and so many other unexpected things is so handy. Your UK bank will likely close your accounts without a UK address. So bear that in mind. In my opinion it should be avoided at all cost to prevent great inconvenience. You have already stated that you would ask for your mail to be sent to a friend anyway, so don't complicate things. it's good that you are planning ahead. It will give you time to iron out the kinks. Just going into your the bank branch where your account is held, and changing your UK address might not require any further proof than ID and bank card, but if it is required, you would also need to ask your friend to put you on their Council Tax for a month or two so you could obtain proof of address. Obviously this would entail a couple of months payment. Another thing. Also change your UK driving licence address. My one recently expired and I have no way of renewing it now here in Thailand. I wanted to keep it, as once expired, I may have to retake a UK driving test to regain it.
