In memoriam, The Queen through the years, God Bless.
phetphet replied to Social Media's topic in ASEAN NOW Community Pub
I woke this morning to this very sad news. Queen before I was born. A great lady, a great Monarch. We can see by the outpouring of grief and the messages of condolence from around the world, how much she was respected and loved. Rest In Peace Your Majesty. -
Measuring height above sea level / ground with accuracy

There are app s for the iphone for that. Not sure how accurate they are though. -
My bank did a recent check on me and asked me if I was UK tax resident. I lied and said yes. Hope it doesn't come beck to bite me on the a***. Have not lived there for almost seven years now. I do use a UK address for the account though. I think you will find it very difficult to open a UK account nowadays without several documents proving you live there. e.g. Utility Bills, Council Tax bill, UK driving licence.

How does the Sun rise and set on a flat Earth? How far do I have to dig to come out the other side? Are miners in any danger of falling into space? Why doesn't this so called Antarctic ice barrier melt and run off the edge? Where does the Arctic fit into all this? Have Aussies always been wrong about being Down Under? What type of cheese is the Moon made of?

Why would I want to get close to you? You posted a question in the Pub Community forum and I answered. At the same time trying to prove a point. After lots of posts, it's often easy to guess someone's origin. So I was wrong with your's, but by your own admission you do your best to give a wrong impression.

I am pretty sure that in the last 500,000 words that I have written on AseanNow / Thaivisa, if they indeed amount to anywhere near that number. I must have revealed where I am from several times. One would have to make a conscious effort not to do so, and avoid giving opinions or posting on threads covering many subjects. If you wish to hide your origins and level of level of education, and try to feign being functionally illiterate, that is your choice. But it seems like a lot of work on public forums over something that would not be of interest to .most people. I can understand if you wish to hide your country of origin. But the rest? what is the point? Here on this website, it is easy to guess many member's nationality without even reading any posts. Just look at their usernames. As for you. I would guess over 60. Well educated, well travelled with time on their hands. Nationality English first. Either American or Canadian second. Am I close?

Poor market sentiment sinks SCB’s multi-billion-baht deal for Bitkub
phetphet replied to snoop1130's topic in Thailand News
Eveb BitKub periodically redoes KYC. I know as am currently prevented from trading while waiting approval once again. They have even asked me to do a "Suitability Test". -
While not meaning to denigrate ladyboys, if its stimulating conversation you want, you might need to widen your target demoographic. If not, don't leave any gold chains lying around.

I am a really bad sleeper. I find that not eating too late, not eating too many sweet things in the evening, and plenty of exercise all help. Since I have cut out bicuits (cookies for our American friends), in the evening, I sleep a lot better. The other thing is keeping the bedroom cool. I turn the aircon before I go to bed and also have a fan. I still tend to wake around 2 or 3 am, and turn the aircon on for a while to cool down again. Usually fall straight back to sleep again HTH

Its not that one is more important than the other. it's just that the media will publish any story that sells. Look how Ukraine is slowly dropping from front page headlines to a lesser spot in the international press. Pretty sure if Nong Nat ever decides to get back with Harold, or get her thre'penny bits out for a photoshoot, it will be all over Thai media regardless of any sad stories like the little girl. Stories sell!

Reducing my house electricity costs – any advice please .
phetphet replied to Custard boy's topic in The Electrical Forum
You will be amazed at how much cold air escapes through any gap under the door when the air con is on. I can stand outside my bedroom with the door closed, and can feel both the cold air blowing from three feet away, and how cold the floor tiles get. Now I just place an old towel on the floor inside when I go to bed. Another lighthearted suggestion. You and the wife could always shower together. ???? -
Travel inside Thailand without a passport
phetphet replied to Danderman123's topic in Thailand Travel Forum
Immigration might hold your passport for a week to process your visa if they are really busy. I doubt they will hold it any longer than that. The only thing I can suggest is to ask them to provide a letter explaining that they are indeed holding your passport. Also take a photocopy of photo page and visa, and take along your Thai driving licence if you have one. HTH. -
Reducing my house electricity costs – any advice please .
phetphet replied to Custard boy's topic in The Electrical Forum
You already have LED bulbs, but how about buying lower wattage ones? Possible to improve insulation in the room where you have air con? Maybe put a cloth or towel at the bottom of the door at night to prevent cold air seeping out under it. Maybe check no dust or fluff clogging up condenser at back of fridge? Lower temperature of shower. -
OK. It's in the Sun, but Arrest Warrant and Interpol Notice? Sound familiar? https://apple.news/At6GLbW86SdCpF0VS7-Sy3w

i knew someone that suffered with Tinnitus. He said that it sounded like a jet engine whooshing constantly in his ear, and almost drove him to suicide. He never cured it, but managed to learn to live with it thanks to specialist help. Hopefully what you have is not that and can be cured.

With the world economies suffering due to the fallout from both Covid and Ukraine, most people just haven't got the money for long haul holidays anywhere. Not only to Thailand. Trying to become the cannabis hub of Asia isn't going to be enough to overcome such an obstacle. Thailand is just going to have to be happy with the numbers they are getting until things improve. It also seems that they are shooting themselves in the foot with this obsession of trying to attract high spending arrivals at the expense of their usual 'bread and butter' lower spending ones. One minute they want the Europeans, next the Chinese, then the Indians. Then only the big spenders. No cohesive plan. Of course, adding new tourist arrival charges, dual pricing etc will always make the news and deter some travellers. But these are all secondary issues to the current world economy.

Used to use it for Tesco own brand and some other western goods, but less and less once Tesco sold it and those goods gradually disappeared. What was left was sold off cheap as the expiry dates passed. Now mostly use Tops or occasionally Makro. Also the local talad for fish and veggies.
