  1. Really? Just like that? Either badly translated or some information missing.
  2. I hate the oily feeling of suncream. I did use Banana Boat SPF50 for a while, but then found a Nivea SPF50 that was also oil free. Or at least didn't give that oily sticky feeling.
  3. Michelle Yeoh was on the Graham Norton Show a couple of weeks ago. Apparently her mother pushed her to enter the Miss Malaysia Contest and she won. But what surprised me most was that she did her own motorcycle stunts in a movie with Jackie Chan. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qyKA3FPcPAM
  4. There are gullible people everywhere. She might just have been desperate for someone to be with.
  5. Seeing as you are looking for more options, you could try using Wise. presuming you have a Thai bank account. If you have internet banking, you may be able to transfer to Wise in the UK, then let them send the money to your bank account here.
  6. Not disturbing at all. I just couldn't find a sarcasm emoticon. What is more disturbing is that you might actually think that Thai drivers are no worse than drivers from countries where the majority actually obey the rules of the road.
  7. While I can understand Russian men wanting to avoid conscription. The term refugee is a bit strong. Russia is not at war, but engaging in a 'Special Military Operation.' So many coming that they have pushed property rental rates up 300% in Phuket? And now own a large portion of the condo market there? The same in other tourist centres. They don't sound like refugees to me. Not even economic migrants. Well off expats is perhaps more accurate. And let's face it. Thailand isn't doing this out of the goodness of their heart. This is a money boost.
  8. When I saw the title "I like Thigh food", I thought this was about one of those Nyotaimori restaurants in Bangkok.
  9. We might all be guilty of breaking some road rules, but Thais are in a different class. You only have to look at the history and number of accidents here. People smashing into parked vehicles at high speed, smashing into vehicles stopped at traffic lights, driving on the wrong side of the road. They seem to have a total lack of spatial awareness.
  10. With the numbers of them driving in the dark without lights, I presume they have far better night vision.
  11. I'm going to the beach to find a pebble right now!
  12. Someone might have a very dangerous door stop. I hope the authorities are as diligent as the Aussies were in looking for their lost capsule. This one is a bit bigger.
  13. Certainly seeing a lot of the "Item Packed", then nothing happens for ages.
  14. $21 for hotel and $14 for food / day? They must be really living it up.
  15. Taxi is easier if travelling with heavy luggage, and tired after a long journey. Just sit back and relax. But I suppose it depends on the route taken by the taxi driver and the traffic. 17:30 is rush hour. If they come in on the Expressway and exit by Asok or Ploenchit, you could get stuck in heavy traffic for a while. Train will require a couple of changes on BTS I think and you still might have to get a taxi at the other end. Personally, I would take this train option: Train to Makkasan, change to MRT to Silom, exit and take a taxi from there.
  16. I thought they asked for a Council Tax bill. Things must have changed since I last applied.
  17. I had two retinal tears diagnosed while having a check up at Rutnin. The doctor took me upstairs immediately and repaired them both with laser. After treatment, I left the hospital, and even managed to catch my flight back to Samui. No exercise or anything strenuous for a month, then back for a check up. Next check up in June. I think everything, eye test, check up and laser treatment came to about 15,000THB. Might be cheaper than flying back to Moorfields. After all, Rutnin is an eye hospital as well.
  18. Not forgetting better rubbish disposal or incineration.
  19. If you have told Barclays that you no longer live in the UK, or that you no longer have a UK address, that is where your problem started. if you have family or a trusted friend that will allow you to use their address, you may be able to open a new account with another bank. Although it depends on what proof of address documents they ask for. Another alternative might be (if you do have a UK address that you can use), is to just go into your local bank branch and change your current registered address to that one. Take ID and they might not ask for proof of address that way. Just a suggestion.
  20. There was a KPMG article on this, but I cannot find it. Here is another: https://taxsummaries.pwc.com/thailand/individual/taxes-on-personal-income
  21. I remember a demonstration at college of how dangerous petrol vapour could be, where they had a long box about 6 feet long x 6 inches high and 6 inches wide. At one end there was a small candle burning. The instructor put a teaspoonful of petrol in the opposite end and told us to wait a little while. All of a sudden there was a whoosh and the flame shot along and up out of the box. The vapour is virtually invisible and creeps along the floor.
  22. Any money earned outside Thailand will be subject to tax if brought into Thailand in the same tax year as earned. So if you could afford to keep it outside Thailand until the next tax year, it would not be subject to tax.
  23. Which part? This part? How do you open a bank account as a non-resident tourist? Or this part? Or do I need to apply to some sort of a special visa in order to do so? I told the OP he can open a bank account. He doesn't have to be resident. If he can fit some of the requirements I stated, he can open a bank account and then leave the country.
