You might remember the Nissan Leaf that didn’t have active battery cooling and if you had to stop to rapid charge more than once on a trip the battery would overheat and charging speed would be greatly reduced. That technology is over a decade old. Modern EVs have heat pumps and active battery cooling. My oldest EV is over 3 years old and has lost 1km of estimated range. My newest EV is 6 months old and you can hear the active cooling ramping up while charging. So no the heat doesn’t kill the batteries and anyway they come with 8 year 70% warranty

I am off-grid (no meter) can you name any others on aseannow? It’s actually pretty rare. Dealing with PEA is a colossal pain in the butt. I was “off-grid” (no units used) with a meter for 5 years. PEA did 4 solar inspections, accused me or turning my meter backwards (to exactly the same meter reading each month) and replaced my meter 5 times claiming that my no export solar system had broken their meter which they wanted to charge me for. I am not allowed to share my power to the grid as any solar system is over 5kW and is consider too powerful to feedback unless I upgrade to a 3 phase connection at the cost of ฿100,000 This video might help explain my decision

Apparently the OP purchased a solar panel at the weekend from his local SolarShop for a solar pond pump project. 660Watts for ฿3,890 that’s only ฿5.89 per Watt. You would only need 3 panels to reach your goal of 2kW

With solar you are purchasing your electricity forward. In my case after six years, power for my house, 2 EVs and an electric motorbike is free. There is the added benefit of not having powercuts but that wasn’t my primary motivation. With your solar problem, if you ground mount your panels you could more easily take them with you when you leave your rental. For “whole house” solar the grid is connected to the inverter which then powers the house from Solar first then the grid. Unfortunately these “whole house” inverters tend to be more expensive and start at about 3.5kW. You need to select a “Hybrid Off-grid” inverter. This is the one I have and they make a 3.5kW version (SPF-3500-ES) You will need to ensure that you meet the minimum requirements for the inverter which might mean buying more panels than you planned to. Alternatively you could buy a small cheap 2kW inverter and use it to power a portable aircon.

I have dozens of Xiaomi smart home gadgets, they are well made and excellent value for money. I agree @mistral53 that Xiaomi car owners will definitely want to customize their cars, you just need to look at the Tesla aftermarket for programmable buttons etc

Tesla doesn’t have much history of reducing prices here in Thailand. In the first year they were available here with price cuts going on around the world Tesla only reduced prices once, a week after the release of the BYD Seal It wasn’t enough to stop the Seal quickly outselling the model 3.

If you had been following EVs as long as I have you would know that Toyota announces a revolutionary solid state battery practically every year. They started doing it a decade ago. You would have to know nothing about EVs to get excited about it. Hybrids come with only about a 1kWh battery by comparison my latest EV has 85kWh gross. Hybrids will only give you a little more efficiency due to regen. By comparison my EV has 580km Range and I can use the bi-directional charging to help power my house. I use solar to power my off-grid house and E vehicles, resulting in no bills. I welcome improvements in batteries but my with current EV I can add 7km of range per kWh and can charge at 150kW/hour. So I can add 350km of range in 20 minutes. Don't trust anything that Toyota says about EV batteries.

At the BKK motor show in 2018 I only saw one EV, the 40 kWh Nissan Leaf with a 8 second 0-100km/h for ฿2m. A few months ago I bought a BYD Seal AWD with an 85kWh gross battery and a 3.8 second 0-100km/h for ฿1.6m Technology changes, EVs get better and cheaper all the time resulting in many more problems for used ICE cars in the future. My car comes with 8 years of car and battery warranty and 8 years of free servicing. So I will be keeping for 8 years at least. If the resale price after that is too low, I will use it’s 6 Tesla Powerwalls of battery storage to keep me off-grid.

EV haters are always going after EV owners for not paying enough tax. If all the Diesel drivers switched to EVs in Thailand we wouldn't have to subsidize Diesel to the tune of 100 billion Baht
