  1. @Andrew Dwyer - thanks for posting this and well spotted - this was news to me. Having a Thai factory and Thai partner who has ordered 100,000 cars makes this a manufacturer I will be following with interest. “the deal between Aiways and Phoenix EV that was made public a few days ago not only refers to the order of at least 100,000 Aiways vehicles in the next five years, but also to the establishment of a joint venture called Aiways Thailand, which is to manage further joint ventures as an umbrella company. The plan is for Aiways Thailand to take over the distribution and servicing of the vehicles, but also to create its own charging and battery exchange infrastructure. Another activity planned by the duo is “local development for special market requirements”.   2. I am sure you are right, but I wish it was just the VAT. Father in Law nearly bought a 12 year old pickup on zero deposit finance for ฿390,000 from a tent. Knowing I would get stuck with repair bills and missed payments I bought him a new one for ฿490,000. There are a number of FB groups for new EVs in Thailand - I think they might be a good place to advertise a used EV for sale here. As long as you are realistic on the price.
  3. I have to admit I have never really understood the secondhand car market in Thailand. There doesn't seem to be a very active private sale market. Dealers don't want to take cars in part exchange and you get quoted what the local used car tent will pay, which is usually nothing.   6. @Pink7 I have a very similar looking transfer switch which was installed by my solar installer. It features in this video on V2L at about the 4 minute mark.

  9. The Zeekr 001 is made by Geely which does not have a presence in Thailand currently. The Zeekr 001 is coming to Europe this year, but as Thailand is a RHD country we tend to have to miss out on small production run cars as it’s not economic to make the conversion.

  12. Prior to to installing solar I was paying PEA ฿3,500/month, now I am paying ฿26/month. I also changed my gasohol powered car which was costing me ฿5,000/month for an EV which as it is powered by excess solar in the middle of the day so saves me ฿5,000/month.

No great revelations but something that caught my attention was in the Q+A a question about Bi-Directional Charging: Tesla’s senior vice president in powertrain and energy engineering, Drew Baglino: “Bidirectional… it wasn’t like a conscious decision to not do it; it just wasn’t a priority at the time" “And so, we are in the middle of a kind of power electronics retool I would say that would bring that functionality to all of our vehicles over the next two years. Most of the value comes in charging the car at the right time. It’s not really about sending the energy the other way [to the home].” Elon Musk; “I don’t think very many people are going to use bidirectional charging, unless you have a Powerwall, because, if you unplug your car, your house goes dark and this is extremely inconvenient" My take: I agree that V2L makes more sense if you have solar and home batteries, because you are trying to run the whole house from the car, just topping up the house batteries on days when solar production is limited. This was something I did miss when I watched the presentation:

  15. Having an EV really helps with payback if you can charge it from your solar system. I agree with previous comments about batteries - they do extend the payback period. I did these calculations for my system over a year ago, so will be a bit out of date with current prices: Payback: Main Components 20,000 Watts of PV @ ฿9/W = ฿180,000 9kWh LiFePO4 Batteries ฿68,000 x 3 = ฿204,000 Inverters ฿36,000 x 3 = ฿108,000 = ฿492,000 Savings: Gasohol saving ฿5,000/month PEA saving ฿3,500/month = ฿8,500/month ฿102,000/Year saving Payback = 5 Years

  20. I have used EAA chargers a few times and they have always worked fine. My only problem with them is they required a credit card. I had a credit card when I used to work here but when I tried to renew it without a work permit SCB wanted ฿60,000 deposit to get ฿30,000 credit limit (minimum allowed) I applied for a preloaded card which EAA seemed to think was a credit card. I see that EAA is now planning a wallet system
