Electric Vehicles in Thailand
Bandersnatch replied to Bandersnatch's topic in Thailand Motor Discussion
Unfortunately the Tang and Hang will not be coming to Thailand as we are RHD and only cars on the new platform will be designed to be made in RHD. It’s worth remembering that BYD’s first factory outside of China is currently being built on a one square km site in Rayong. It is planned to start production of RHD cars for Thailand and export to RHD markets like Australia and NZ next year. -

A hill climb like this is the toughest test for any car and does not represent normal driving. I for one would be driving a little more sedately with all those hairpin bends. ???? -

I have a "first flush" system. I also have 2 separate filter systems - one for household water and one for drinking. The first flush system leaves any dirt at the bottom of the first flush and opening the valve flushes it away. I tend to open for the first rain of the season and a couple of times after that. -

The LFP MG 4 is an excellent value car. I really enjoyed my test drive. Compared to the LFP Tesla model 3 it’s half the price. -
Solar power is it worth it
Bandersnatch replied to highlander76's topic in Alternative/Renewable Energy Forum
I don’t know if @DjSilver realized he was replying to a four year old comment. Solar in Thailand is in a completely different place now. Solar panels are half the price they were then. Lithium batteries are a quarter the price! Maybe solar power wasn’t worth it 4 years ago but that is definitely not the case now particularly when compared to grid electricity which is 20% higher now with more price rises to come. -

Likewise, I am always getting the spanish inquistion on what I paid for my solar system and what the payback is. Fortunately it is pretty easy to calulate the savings = Previous PEA Bill + Previous Gasohol Bill neither of which I pay now thanks to solar. Funny that nobody ever asks what I pay for water security. Admittedly we are not on city water so I would have to do something, but most people around here have a small surface pump and a 20m well and when it dries up they get water trucked in. The fact that the trucks look identical to the “Honey Trucks” that are used to empty septic tanks doesn’t seem to bother them. What i’ve done is a bit more expensive, but it gives me drinking water; household water and water for the garden. -

Electricity supply in Thailand is not universally reliable. I’m sure yours is great and you never get a brown-out or a black-out but where I live power cuts are not uncommon. I want to have power for lights, fans, aircon and running water all the time and I am prepared to pay for it. -

The two questions I am always asked are: 1) how much was your solar? 2) how long before you get your money back? Those are the two questions I have answered. My answers are based on my personal circumstances. -

When I was involved in my fight with MG about being allowed to charge from Solar a couple of years ago PEA had an “EV free second meter” policy where they would install a second meter for free to directly charge your EV. I haven’t had a need to talk to PEA about this since as I opted for charging from solar and getting no warranty on my free wall charger. (My solar didn’t blow up my wall charger) -
