This whole article sounds like how they could use Phuket hotels as ASQ hotels when people arrive via Bangkok or Phuket airport.

    Nothing more.

But this is a step in the right direction: allow foreigners to come to Thailand early september BUT isolate & test them for 14 days.
That's a very good news for many expats that want to come back to Thailand.

this will be my first 5 year DL, (my current is 2y) do i need medical or residence certificate ?

You only need to bring a medical certificate, residence certificate (= immigration), photocopies of your passport and your driving licence.

For a renewal 5 years to 5 years, a medical certificate is not required.

I'm pretty sure I had it as well and there was even a thread about who was experiencing flu like symptoms with many posts saying they were.

And we can not blame Thailand when early in January, Wuhan was lockdowned and China told the world that the virus was under control.

Back to the topic: the peak of the epidemic in Thailand didn't occured in march but much earlier. There are still some rare cases in Thailand but no more deadly cases. Thailand allready immunized after the covid started 7 months ago ? Who knows ?

how many have died of no treatment policies that deprive people of simple operations ,care for cancer, heart problems etc etc.

Let me tell you my sad story, the only person that I'll see dying this year was my father:

    - in november 2019 my father has been diagnostized for a bone cancer in Thailand
    - he started is chimio in december at the Bangkok Hospital of Bangkok

    - the chimio was not finished when early in january he had problems for breath, they tested him and found he had H1N1 (?)

    - he had 2 weeks left with chimio but they stopped it to help him to breath

    - 10 days later my father felt a little better, they did 4 days chimio (instead of 2 weeks) and asked him to go back home

    - he had a visit planed to begining of march that has been postponed to end of april

    - at home he still had that pneumonia, he felt worse and worse. Impossible to go to hospital in march, so I bought for him many bottle of oxygen to help him to breath
    - end of april he came back to the hospital and they found that the cancer had spread to liver and lunged ???? they kept him for his pneumonia
    - my father died in may

But I dont blame Thailand and the Bangkok Hospital:
    - Later I learned that my father had that first cancer for more than 2 years (but he scared to go to hospital), his case was desperate
    - China didn't alert Thailand in december/january about the covid-19, so the hospitals in Thailand were not prepared

I don't think any country has reached anywhere near it's peak

... but some other scientists are talking about the cross imunity, some countries close to China (as Thailand) could have their population > 50% immunized before that covid-19. So what previsions are the best, can we allready pretend to explain how is working that virus ?

I think today we can only observe and the fact is after the peak of the epidemics, deaths are falling.

Yes, and Thailand closed its borders, the US did not.

And Thailand closed its border to China in december/january/february/march when hundreds of thousands of chinese tourists came to Thailand with their covid-19 ?

Do you really think that the covid-19 has start to come in Thailand only in march 2020 ? Same month as in Europe & USA ?

China & SEA countries had that covid-19 at least 2-3 months before the rest of the world.

So your answer is to throw open the gates, and encourage the virus to come flooding back into Thailand from all the places in the world with far worse rates of infection and death... So Thailand can become more like the U.S. or U.K.???

You cannot compare because Thailand reached its peak of the epidemic several months ago:

Well New Zealand thought they had cracked the nut, they are now heading for a very severe shutdown... Thailand will follow this model and crush the economy .... the military will get harder.   No planes in until 2022 at the earliest...

NZ & Thailand had exactly the same policy: border closed to tourists + 14 days quarantine.

Both countries were proud to announce that there was zero local new cases for more than 2 months.

And surprise in NZ with 4 new local cases in Auckland 2 days ago !
That clearly shows that the virus was still spreading in NZ even if the borders were closed.

No countries will stop the virus when they ban their international flights. The virus is everywhere in the world now, sooner or later it will come back in Thailand. Ban international flights is just a waste of time and money ?

In Thailand the virus was everywhere in february/march, I just hope Thai people are allready immunized.

PS; Thailand immunized because I believe in that cross immunity, that covid is a "local" covid for people in SEA, that could explain the few deaths in SEA & China... but that's another subject.

  10. Only 59 dead in Thailand at the peak of the epidemic. In February / March I and a few of my friends got mildly ill. What's the worst that could happen even if the tourists were back?

I have not seen anyone go to the hospital because of covid-19, however what I see is that a Thai couple committed suicide in their house 500 meters from mine 2 days ago . They weren't as old as the deaths from covid-19. They had a restaurant business on a boat, but no more money because of covid and the lack of tourists.

This is the ONLY serious impact of covid-19 that I will have seen around me:

... but of course more research evidence is needed.

I dont think we need a kind a scientific research to try to understand everything, because it's a new virus and there is an emergency.

What we really need today it to observe:

    - observe the countries that had 1st the covid (China etc...): no 2nd wave, still some cases but the deaths count is falling
    - Why countries in China/SEA had so few deaths ?
    - Only HCQ helped to treat people, Remdesivir etc ... were a failure

    - A new vaccine wont be available untill at least 6-9 months and wont be tested 100%. But for what if that virus starts to disapear and kills today only few eldery people ?
