Passport Collection From VFS Bangkok
AhFarangJa replied to prakhonchai nick's topic in Visas and migration to other countries
I have renewed both My, and my Son's passports over the last two years. As I live in Nakhon nowhere I used Key visa in Pattaya. 5,000 Baht each time. Way cheaper than two trips to Bangkok, and a lot less hassle. -
Thailand to tax residents’ foreign income irrespective of remittance
AhFarangJa replied to snoop1130's topic in Thailand News
So, assuming in the future they get all their ducks in a row, and start taxing all our incomes, what do we get out of it? Free healthcare, access to pensions, scrapping of dual pricing? Rhetorical question, as we are dirty Farangs we get nothing. -
Teens riding against traffic cause fatal accident in Pathum Thani
AhFarangJa replied to webfact's topic in Bangkok News
I will not hold my breath on that one, no money in it. Why do the police not get out there en-masse, and fine everyone they see breaking the traffic laws, well, we all know why, so treat it is a rhetorical question. -
Grieving mother pleads for justice after son shot dead by gang
AhFarangJa replied to snoop1130's topic in Isaan News
Very sad. It does seem a case of mistaken identity, however, a poor family in Thailand, I cannot see any justice forthcoming as there is no money in it for a certain group. This will likely be the last we ever hear of it if the investigation, and follow up go true to form here. As Hotchilli posted, RIP, and better luck next life. -
Officials Guarantee Safety on Koh Samui Following Minor Earthquakes
AhFarangJa replied to snoop1130's topic in Koh Samui News
Now that is fresh news, it has not happened yet. All discussions to take place in 5 star hotels, all expenses paid, and will take at least two weeks. Upon which a committee will be appointed to look at all the facts, before another visit in a month or so to finalise decisions and dish out contracts. -
Pattaya Mayor Enforces Stricter Safety for Parasailing Operators
AhFarangJa replied to webfact's topic in Pattaya News
I have an idea that might just help. Why do the relevant key agencies get off their collective lazy backsides, leave the comfort of the a/c office, and actually do some enforcing. That is assuming, of course, that they know what the relevant safety protocols are in the first place. I mean, if your average BIB does not have any clue of the laws they are supposed to uphold, what chance for a bunch of jumped up civil servants in matching uniforms with airforce wings. -

French Expat Rescues Two Men from Drowning in Lopburi
AhFarangJa replied to webfact's topic in Central Thailand News
My brain is finally going, when I read paddled out my first impression was he rolled up his trousers, and paddled out. However, 6 metres of water, He must have paddled another boat out. Silly me, but kudos to the Gentleman for His quick actions. Will the local authorities give Him a medal or something........er........I doubt it. -
Taxing times: Tourism Minister stands firm with 300 baht tourist tax
AhFarangJa replied to snoop1130's topic in Thailand News
Exactly, a turnstile at arrivals, deposit money, then return to the plane. Maybe I am mistaken, but was there not a refusal by the airlines to implement this in the ticket as it was only for Foreign Nationals, and therefore a nightmare to police? Someone please put me right if I am getting it wrong. -
Taxing times: Tourism Minister stands firm with 300 baht tourist tax
AhFarangJa replied to snoop1130's topic in Thailand News
I remember, then overnight it was incorporated into the ticket price. However, a lot of people did not realise (as it was not really inventoried), that they increased it from 500 to 750 Baht overnight. Any way they can gouge a penny they will. -
Thai Man Appeals for Help Repatriating Overstaying Russian Family
AhFarangJa replied to webfact's topic in Pattaya News
Will the Thai landlord be prosecuted for aiding & abetting a known overstayer? I take my hat off to Him for trying to help, especially the children, but wonder how the immigration will see it? -
Big Thailand visa changes from June 1
AhFarangJa replied to snoop1130's topic in Thai Visas, Residency, and Work Permits
They are clamouring for foreign revenue, so I have an idea. Why not scrap all the hoops us retirees, (who put millions into the Country annually), have to jump through, including the irrelevant 90 day reporting. Make it a more desirable place to retire too, and attract more. -
Koh Samui Tourism Struggles Amid Infrastructure Challenges
AhFarangJa replied to webfact's topic in Koh Samui News
Someone mentioned in a post that where is all the money from previous years of tourism to re-invest in the infrastructure. It is a simple answer, that is commonplace all over the Country, it has gone into the pockets of the people running the place. Wherever you go there is hardly ever any re-investment, they just grab what they can while it is available, as tomorrow is another day. Same with maintenance, foresight, future planning. It is simply not in their mindset. Now the hens are coming home to roost. -

Foreign nationals arrested after bike rampage on Koh Samui (video)
AhFarangJa replied to webfact's topic in Koh Samui News
Not condoning their action, but, if I take a video of the young kids riding through our village in the evenings with modified exhausts, making enough noise to wake the dead, do you think the local police will take action.........Answers on a postcard please.....- 25 replies
