Analysis The Shinawatra family continues to face challenges
AhFarangJa replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
Can someone please explain how a person on bail can do this? I thought He was not supposed to have anything to do with politics........except a bit of macrame maybe. -
Thai PM Srettha Axed Over Controversial Cabinet Appointment
AhFarangJa replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
I was only saying a few days ago that I thought there could be a coup by the end of the year. Hope I am proven wrong. However, please, please, no A-Nut-In -
Exactly what I did Scuba. Was fed up with the 70 plus pages of paperwork, stupid photos all around the house, etc. Bank statement for the year, a photo I.D. and a couple of signatures now. I also have to concur with another poster that, as fast as these new visa appear they can disappear just as fast.

Pattayas Iconic Secret Beach Strewn with Trash
AhFarangJa replied to webfact's topic in Pattaya News
Agreed. Same in Hua Hin, there is one soi, near 94, that has an abandoned condo building on it. The soi is about half a kilometre long and is so full of rubbish, from old toilets, kitchens, etc to mattresses that it is only passable by one vehicle at a time in places. Looks worse than the municipal tip. -
One Year Extension Headache
AhFarangJa replied to parallaxtech's topic in Koh Samui, Koh Phangan, Koh Tao
Many thanks, I will check with my IO after my next trip in October. Last month when I moved permanently I went the office, and they put a tear off slip of paper in my passport that said notification of address given by alien, and the date. I will have to check online to see if it is a TM28 or 30......As you rightly say, each office has it's own interpretations, I just smile, speak politely, and bimble off... -
One Year Extension Headache
AhFarangJa replied to parallaxtech's topic in Koh Samui, Koh Phangan, Koh Tao
Forgive me Tropical, but am I mistaken that a couple of years ago they relaxed the tm28 & tm 30 rules that you only needed to re-do it if you had been abroad? I was under the impression that if, for instance, you went to Bangkok for a week, then returned to the same address you were covered? -
Thailand unveils new visa rules, sparks mixed reactions
AhFarangJa replied to snoop1130's topic in Thailand News
Oh, really, well before you start throwing stones in the greenhouse why not get off your behind, and do a little looking. I know, just to help you in case you are suffering from ADD, here is a video pertaining to what I posted.....Yes, three million is not specifically mentioned, but I happen to know it was mentioned in another article......By the way, you are welcome, even if you are a mindless troll. -
Thailand unveils new visa rules, sparks mixed reactions
AhFarangJa replied to snoop1130's topic in Thailand News
That would not surprise me in the least. After Big Joke raised the bank seeding to 800K. etc. I bet that spawned a whole new gaggle of "Agents". I am also aware that before he was ousted from immigration He was feeding new ideas to the heads of that department. One of them was that the seeding money should be 3 million Baht. His thought was it would weed out the criminals. The only people with that amount of spare cash are (mostly), criminals. Imagine the agent kickbacks to immigration bosses if they implemented that little gem. I may be cynical, after over 30 years here, but I am pretty sure they make these things difficult in order to keep the under table dealings going. -
US Senator Warns Over Move Forward Party Dissolution
AhFarangJa replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
Er, excuse me, but that is the point, there are no democratically elected people in power here. The voters did take the necessary steps, and what happened.......the winning party suddenly found itself virtually banned from politics. -
Thailand unveils new visa rules, sparks mixed reactions
AhFarangJa replied to snoop1130's topic in Thailand News
Totally agree Sambum, I have personal experience of "obstacles" being put in the way which I believe were just ruses to try to make me pay under the table. Luckily in all my years here they have been rare. Nevertheless, if everyone sang from the same hymnbook as you say, it would make many lives here easier. I do, however, believe it is not just restricted to Immigration. Police, and local Government all suffer from the same disease. Guess this is just another one of those foibles of living here........ -
Thailand unveils new visa rules, sparks mixed reactions
AhFarangJa replied to snoop1130's topic in Thailand News
Agreed Rick, First hand experience of different immigration fiefdoms. When lived in Hua Hin, money in the bank, six months statements, and the obligatory update on the day & bank letter. Moved back to near Surin, now money in the bank 12 months statements, even though the Government visa rules state 3 months before & 3 months after visa date. I will not hold my breath on these rules being changed in the near future, or even taken advantage of as being more complex, therefore more interpretations, equals more kickbacks because you "not haf correct paper". Flip flop Government will not disappoint I am sure. -
US Senator Warns Over Move Forward Party Dissolution
AhFarangJa replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
I do not believe the ruling elite here care one iota what anyone outside, or inside the Country thinks, as long as there coffers keep filling. When I ask around in the village what they think of the way it has been handled (MFP winning the election, but about to be banned), the only response I get is that they have the guns, they have the money, what can we do. Subservient acquiescence drummed into them from the time they can walk. -
All the Blood pressure medications
AhFarangJa replied to georgegeorgia's topic in Health and Medicine
Thanks, that is interesting. I have been on Amlodipine for 20 years, but my blood pressure remains just on the high side. Never heard of a garlic medication, but will certainly investigate it now. I am also on two other medications, and to be honest I do wonder about the side effects compared to natural remedies. -
Religion, bringing wars to the masses for the last 2,000 years. I do appreciate the Israel / Arab divide is a lot more complicated than merely religious ideals, but it is likely the biggest contributory factor.

NHRC calls for investigation into Thaksin's "VVIP" treatment
AhFarangJa replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
While I admire the optimism of Khun Wasan, I feel asking the NACC to investigate is akin to asking Pooh bear to mind the Honey Jar. Teflon Tony will have all the brown envelopes filled out already. We all know what NACC stands for.....Now Another Case closed. -
Thaksin Shinawatra Told To Stop Overpowering Srettha Thavisin
AhFarangJa replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
I know nothing much of the laws here, but does being on parole mean that he should not be playing politics anyway. If so then why is he not being arrested, instead of told to back off.(Rhetorical question). Also, wo betide us if A-Nut-In gets the top job. -
Ex-PM Thaksin’s Dubai dreams dashed: Medical treatment declined
AhFarangJa replied to snoop1130's topic in Thailand News
Same, same here in our village Spider. A couple of years ago they would not hear a bad word about Him, now, the political climate has done a u turn. Strangely, the same goes for a person who cannot be mentioned. -

Is Anutin Thailand's Prospective Next Prime Minister?
AhFarangJa replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
Before Big Joke was kicked out He was advising the people that matter on what new rules to impose. One of them was money in the bank. He was touted as saying it is not enough, and a figure of 3 million was bandied about. Those recommendations He made have not gone away, and if this a-hole gets in, well, as you wrote, it could be the end for a lot of us here. All we can do is sit back, and watch. -
Is Anutin Thailand's Prospective Next Prime Minister?
AhFarangJa replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
Same here. What a lot of people seem to forget is that He is one of the biggest xenophobic racists to ever sit in Government. Even worse than teflon Tony, and Big Joke. If He gets the top job it will not be good for retirees here. -

Whats ur thought on thailands employee retirement age at 55?
AhFarangJa replied to villageidiotY2K's topic in General Topics
My Brother in law is a retired school headmaster. His pension is in the order of about 40K a month, maybe a bit more. He also "borrows" on his pension. For instance he will borrow 40,000 Baht, then pay it back by taking a reduction of 5k Baht per month for eight months. Rinse & repeat.
