  1. Excellent information - thank you everyone! I'll use the commercial software, and for 23/24 I may not have any tax in UK as I only had the property for a few months in that year. This year they'll be tax, and I guess my UK Gov pension will also need to be included.
  2. I (think) I need to file a UK tax return even though I may not need to pay any tax, as I have a property rented out in UK. But according to the UK Gov website I can't use the Inland Revenue on-line form as I'm non-resident. The website says I need to purchase commercial software to file the return. This seems strange as there's also the 'free' system on the Gov website .... but for UK residents only. Looking at the hundreds of commercial tax filing systems listed on the Gov website, the prices start around £60 GBP. What have other members done? Purchase the commercial software, just use the free UK one using a UK address, use an accountant, not bother? Seems wrong to have to buy software just to pay tax! (Also serves me right for being honest about living in Thailand with my gov pension .... no annual rises and I have to pay to file a tax return.)
  3. These numbers look very low for everywhere except maybe Australia? The figures are based on a survey, not official data. I guess many "ex-pats" on tourist visas and/or maintaining a UK address for pension or banking purposes, will make any figures for ex-pats highly inaccurate. Only 41,000 in Thailand? There must be more than that in Pattaya alone?
  4. From the Line Home Screen, click the gear wheel top right. Select the Backup Chat history option. Backup to your Google or Apple account. Set up Line on new phone. Do same as above, but select Restore.
  5. Small crystals can form in the inner ear and cause severe dizzy spells. The Epley Manoeuvre (special head movements) can help, there's lots of YouTube videos on how to do it. I take Merislon if the Epley doesn’t work, and this helps but makes me feel drowsy. But there's many causes of vertigo, so recommend you see a Doc.
  6. การซ่อมบำรุง
  7. Increased NI payments come out of profit, not revenue. Still a decent amount of money, although UK supermarkets are quite competitive, so margins are lower than in Thailand for example, where CP have a clear leadership position. .
  8. The only food product recalls I've ever seen in Thailand was a few during the melamine in milk issue, when some baby foods and other milk products were recalled. Big contrast to US or UK where there's typically 10 or more recalls a day.
  9. Because he will let them have Ukraine
  10. A few years ago I did that mid-life crisis thing of riding a Harley across North America, and based on the people I met, I think Trump will win. Everyone I met on my trip was friendly and hospitable, but the standards of education, critical thinking and international outlook was much more divided than we see in Thailand. The more 'worldly' outlook was confined to the coastal regions of the East and West, and that big region between the coasts was very different. As foreigners we're exposed to the people and culture of the East and West coastal regions, but the rest of the country is very different, and that's where Trump gets traction.
  11. When did Kathmandu become part of India? I think Nepal may want their capital back.
  12. Yes, the same airline never paid the promised refunds when they cancelled flights during COVID. Untrustworthy business with poor customer service.
  13. I heard the same dog also found a million baht left in a taxi and returned it to the owner.
  14. Well yes, he should certainly be on the 'not allowed to breed (yet again)' list. There should be an IQ test before anyone is allowed to have kids. And the planet is not running short of humans, so set the bar high.
  15. Unfortunately smart people are having few or no kids while the uneducated breed like rabbits - causing reverse evolution through survival of the dumbest.
  16. Looks like UK has a 1984 style propaganda department. And the official 'Newspeak' language will replace words like 'Islamic terrorist' or 'radicalised' with 'mentally ill' and 'abused'. "Every record has been destroyed or falsified, every book rewritten, every picture has been repainted, every statue and street building has been renamed, every date has been altered".
  17. Not keen on her 'music' as part of Black Pink or solo .... but her collaboration with DJ Snake was pretty good. But no (credible) denying that she's a very well known international star. Although has she agreed to the event, or is this wishful thinking by TAT? Also .... which Bangkok countdown, surely not Central World - which is dangerously overcrowded. Icon Siam perhaps?
  18. So if the powerful people who protected the illegal scheme in return for huge bribes (presumably senior government officials) step back and allow the Minions to be prosecuted, they will be left alone to enjoy their 10 Bn THB of other people's money? No wonder corruption is endemic .... if you're corrupt enough you are immune to prosecution.
  19. The GWM Jolion hybrid looks to be a good deal at the moment. Price just reduced too, although no third row of seats. Seems to be lots of GWM dealers too. For family transport the new Toyota Innova looks great, but it's over 1 million. I'm also looking for a replacement for my X-Trail. It's been a great car, and as we visit farms the 4X4 capability is useful. The trade-in price was a bit of a shock though. Our X-Trail has been well cared for (still looks new) and always main dealer serviced, but dealer only offered 200k for our 6 year old low-ish mileage car. I checked used prices against Toyota, and while the price drop was less, the discount given on the original new price for the X-Trail (compared to zero discount on Toyata at the time) makes the depreciation similar .... so I think it's the fall in the used car market rather than brand specific depreciation.
  20. Cuba, Kuwait, Qatar, UAE .... it's an even bigger joke than I thought, and not very funny.
  21. I think there will be some enquiries, resignations and even prosecutions of senior management at Harrods. How much did they know about his illegal acts committed at his places of work?
  22. The UN is an expensive joke. They are powerless when action is needed and powerful in matters of no importance.
  23. Bank App on phone most times (and more now 7-11 will accept it) but still tip in cash at restaurants.
  24. "Authorities are taking steps to prevent future incidents" 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
  25. Unfortunately because the majority of people receiving the handout will be in debt, it's inevitable the 10,000 THB will end up in the hands of loan sharks. But they must have known that when they proposed the vote buying scheme.
