Thailand grapples with allowing more Chinese landowners
kingstonkid replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
I think the big difference between all foreigners and Chinese is that the Chinese have a lot of money that they can not spend or invest in China without the government there looking into their dealings -

At this stage it is not "Prawit Goons" that he has to worry about it is RTP and Thai immigration. His wife may think things are rough now under Prawit but let's see how she likes life after her hubby is sent back to Germany and she either has the choice of possibly moving to Germany or being without her main source of income. There is no way she will get a visa to visit Germany in the timeframe that Immigration will have to remove him.

11 Provinces Warned of Rising Chao Phraya River
kingstonkid replied to snoop1130's topic in Bangkok News
Any province along the Chao Praya is in danger not really necessary to list them. Living in Pathum Thani we are used to the river flooding every year at this time. Anyone living along the river is used to it. Those of us in Rangsit can only hope that the city does not lock and close its canals like in 2011. -
Young German Man Displays Anti-Prawit Photo In Rayong
kingstonkid replied to webfact's topic in Eastern Thailand
There is nothing wrong with telling your wife what you think. I also agree that attending a (1) demonstration is like going to old Patpong, something that you have to do while here. Going u p on stage to protest anything even the treatment of Soi dogs is dumb. The only smart thing that this idiot did was not have a picture of someone else. I have learned one thing about Thai politics and it is a simple lesson. Getting involved in Thai politics is like getting involved with the missus family disputes or a cop getting involved with domestic violence. You are going to be wrong no matter what you say or do. People may to your face agree but watch your back. -
That will save your furniture but you will still not be able to stay there if it happens. I did that in 2011 and was ready to ride it out until the sewers backed up on the second floor. The challenge is not having access to food and fresh water. They have done some work around Rangsit and in Pathum Thani, but it will be interesting to see how much it works. The other problem is Thais throwing garbage into the canals Going to be interesting to see what people do and how they act this time; a lot more people are living in the burbs and not sure the sewer lines have been improved enough.

Should the Thai government ban mobile use for motorcyclists?
kingstonkid replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
Banning is one thing enforcing the ban is the joke (not a BIG JOKE) no t only do they use them when stationary but they use them when actually driving just like cars. -
Bangkok gets tough with motorcyclists riding or parking on pavements
kingstonkid replied to snoop1130's topic in Bangkok News
This is an annual thing that has no teeth -
Teachers can not keep students late after school because the parents or the minibus will not wait for them. I wish that the media and those involved would publish the whole story. Students continually coming in late Students being noisy when they come in students not care about a teacher or other students. Not saying this is the case but .... The other point is that when Thai parents read these things, just like in other countries, there are parents that see dollar signs. 200 is not a number you start with I am willing to bet that it has been going on for awhile

The Thai real estate market, especially in BKK, is about to take a dive. There are too many condos being built, and the prices are way too high. The only way they can sell them is to sell them to the Chinese that has money and little to invest in back home. I would love to see the vacancy rate for some of these newer condo's I can tell you that Thais are moving out of Bangkok to the burbs where instead of a 1 bdrm for 10 million they can get a house for 5 million brand new -

Free Birth Control Pills Provided via Pao Tang App
kingstonkid replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
My best friend's wife walked in on her daughter the same thing. Her birthday was in a week, and we were all told about it and told that presents should be more suitable for the situation. The daughter always made out like a bandit on a birthday and was not impressed when the diapers condoms baby clothes and maternity wear started to show up in her presents. Not sure if it affected her much, but I can tell you it did the BF who along with his parents was invited to the party and her younger sister. The bf was made by his parents to sit beside her and his parents thought it was hilarious. -
The winner in this seems to be the stores that o one went to at the pier and the songtaew drivers who can charge an arm and a leg. OH well. I am surprised that the tours are not running as they were there was a lot of money in that.

Counterfeit Goods Worth 173 Million Baht Destroyed
kingstonkid replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
Probably but remember you are in SE Asia. Things have to be done big to show the world that you mean business. I lived in Pakistan in the 90's and when the Microsoft reps came to town, they had a bog show of raiding different stores and shops that were selling software. The joke was that they raided the first floor and as soon as they left the shop opened on the second floor Just go to some of the tourist markets, and you will see the absurdity of all this again it is just a show for the big companies. Pantip used to be the largest software and counterfeit store in SE Asia. They just relocated some of the shops to different areas. -
Counterfeit Goods Worth 173 Million Baht Destroyed
kingstonkid replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
But simply recycling would not be a show. Also after they have been destroyed then, the Thais will go through and recycle what can be used. The purpose of this show is not to take the goods out os circulation it is to show the world and the U.S. that they are active in this. Go to NANA or a lot of other areas even MBK and you can find counterfeit goods. quite easily. The bigger joke used to be people sold Nik shirts and shoes. or you could buy role watches
