  1. As someone who's been a retiree here since the early 2000s, I think there isn't much wrong with the retirement system the way it is. The 800,000 Baht in the Bank is no problem, 90 day reports can be done online, or at the local Immigration office, instead of having to travel to Bangkok or Pattaya, like in the old days. The annual renewal takes less than 30 minutes to complete, if there's no queue. It works fine, as it is. From reading the forum over the years, most retirees spend far more here, as normal living expenses, than the native Thai people do, and contribute substantially to the Thai economy.
  2. I crush a small amount of cannabis into my cup, before making black coffee or ginger tea, then drink the fluid, leaving the crushed cannabis in the bottom of the cup, when I finish the drink. Honestly can't tell the difference in the effect of the cannabis from smoking it, apart from it takes a little longer for the buzz to start. Yes I know it's not supposed to work, but it certainly does for me. Plus I don't have to smoke or use tobacco, which IS unhealthy, I don't think anyone would argue with that.
  3. A scammer could easily get a photo from my FB account, without me giving them a new one, there's plenty on there. Did the same as you, reported it, and now I'm back, with an apology for their mistake.
  4. Mine has been suspended this morning and is now demanding I allow them to take a video to identify me. Absolutely no idea why? Anyone else having problems with this? Just saw I'm restricted from advertising, but I've never advertised on Facebook, and never will, no reason to. Is there a way out of this, without letting them video me?
  5. OK thanks, I'll give it a try. Only had the laptop a few weeks, didn't want to mess it up!
  6. Thank you, very reassuring.
  7. Haven't got a tablet, unfortunately, but thanks for the reply.
  8. Trying to sort out how to watch the Premier League on my laptop, via MONOMAX. The app on Google won't work on my Laptop (Acer Aspire Lite 16, running Windows 11), and apparently I need an Android emulator such as Bluestack, in order to make the MONOMAX channels work. Is it safe? I've downloaded Bluestack from the official site, but haven't installed it yet. Any help appreciated, thank you
  9. That's easy for you to say....
  10. Just discovered this seems to have been going a while, thinking of giving it a try, it's only 50 Baht a month according to Google. is the commentary in English? Can one choose which game to watch, or is it previously selected, like they show games in the UK? DAZN do the National League & the North & South sub divisions of that. Can't find a Thai price, or if the commentary is in English, any help appreciated, thanks.
  11. Why is it not possible for your wife to withdraw the money if you die, have you made a will in Thailand?
  12. Put cannabis in my black coffee and black tea of an evening, 4-5 times a week*. Run 80 kms every week, as well as doing other forms of exercise, and I've lost 10 kgs in 10 months. It's all down to the individual, and how much they let something affect their lives. *Before anyone comes out with the old "can't get high that way", yes you can, it just takes a little longer than smoking it, but far better for the health of your lungs.
  13. Were you with RBS before you left the UK? Or did you open an account with them from Thailand?
  14. Apparently Nationwide are now asking account holders to confirm their personal details, such as home address, phone number etc. Will they / any other UK Bank allow British citizens who live in Thailand to have accounts with them? Any recommendations for UK Banks that accept Brits who live in Thailand? Thanks for any replies.
  15. Thanks for the reply. When I bring money over I usually transfer it from my UK savings account to my UK current account, then send it here by SWIFT transfer, leaving the current account balance the same as it was, before I moved the savings into it. I assume that will be OK for the Thai Tax people. I'd already planned to download a 12 month statement from my UK Bank accounts on 31 December, good advice though, and thanks again for the reply. '
  16. I'm 70 years old, and married to a Thai woman for 25 years. She has not worked in Thailand since we married. I have never worked in Thailand. I've lived in Thailand since 2009. I get two pensions, in the UK one the normal UK state pension, & the other private from a company I worked for. I have not brought any money into Thailand since December 2023. We have substantial savings in the UK, which I would like to bring to Thailand, over the next few years. These savings have been in the UK Bank, since before the start of 2024, but I would prefer not to pay tax on it, when I do bring it over. What can I bring over without paying tax? How much tax would I pay if I decided to have both pensions paid directly to a Thai bank, instead of going into UK Banks? Can I gift money to my wife, via Bank transfers from the UK, without paying tax?
  17. Can anyone recommend a decent tax accountant in Phetchabun? UK citizen, living in Thailand since 2009, I'm completely lost as to what to do with this new tax situation. Thanks
  18. Doesn't the UK have one of these, does this mean UK citizens who pay ANY tax, won't be liable for tax in Thailand? I'm taxed on Savings interest in the UK.
  19. Somebody's fishing for an invite.....lol
  20. Wasn't aware there was a loophole! What I've done in the past (I'm on a retirement "visa"), is transfer money every few years, as and when I need it, using "personal expenses" on the transfer form, as the reason for bringing the money over, which is the reason for doing so. If memory serves me correctly using "personal expenses", means the money isn't taxed on entry here. No one has mentioned that the UK & Thai Governments have a tax agreement, where if one pays UK tax, then one doesn't pay tax in Thailand, and presumably vice versa. I pay tax on savings in the UK, so as far as I'm aware, I'm not liable for tax here.I did claim arebate here once, many years ago, but haven't since. I also pay tax on my savings in Thailand.
  21. Can someone put this into layman's terms please. Is Thailand expecting foreign retirees who live here, pay tax on their pensions from their home countries?
  22. Sick to death of people posting topics just to cause annoyance to those of us that use a little cannabis. it's just winding up for the sake of it. Please get a life!
  23. Ridiculous! How about the Jews stop trying to claim land that they forfeited 2,000 years ago? Or are you OK with the US being retaken by Native Americans, or the UK being subject to the Angles, or Saxons?
