Fire Electric Car Catches Fire at Bangkok Repair Workshop
dddave replied to Georgealbert's topic in Bangkok News
Perhaps true if including collisions and other outside causes but for spontaneous fires in cars that are stationary and not in operation, EV's lead the list. Just this past month, two automobile transport ships carrying EV's caught fire from spontaneous car fires within and burned-out to the waterline. -
Accident Multiple Injured in Pattaya Motorcycle Collision
dddave replied to Georgealbert's topic in Pattaya News
Drivers on Railway Rd assume they have the right of way and plow across. Actually, vehicles crossing the tracks have right of way but there is no clear signage to indicate that. This true at all of the many Railway Rd crossings. Always a challenge to drive through. -

Crime British Woman Sentenced in Germany Over Thai Drug Smuggling Case

Yes sir! This harsh punishment will certainly convince anybody tempted to haul large suitcases full of whatever that crime doesn't pay and their lives will be ruined. I can understand how dedicated law enforcement officers must slap heir heads and ask: "WTF??" -

Accident School Bus Crash Leaves Two Dead and Dozens Injured

In many US states, seat belts in school buses are forbiden by law. I have no idea of the logic applied. -
Crime Swedish Tourist Nabbed for Illegal Drone Use in Pattaya
dddave replied to webfact's topic in Pattaya News
If your dream is to just have the experience of learning to fly a drone and have a good time at it, there are some great, small, 5" very lightweight quads designed for Indore use. I bought one for amusement during Covid lockdowns and had a great time. They are designed to bounce harmlessly off ceilings and walls but fly by all the same principles of larger drones. https://www.lazada.co.th/products/pdp-i5128747717-s21647746815.html? -
Crime Swedish Tourist Nabbed for Illegal Drone Use in Pattaya
dddave replied to webfact's topic in Pattaya News
Under normal circumstances, If a drone or quad is under 250 grams and does not have an onboard camera, it does not require a license. If it is over 250g and has a camera it requires licensing from two authorities. -
Crime Five Drug Runners Killed in Firefight with Military
dddave replied to Georgealbert's topic in Chiang Mai News
Sadly, more often than not, these "drug runners" are stateless hill-tribe teenagers and young men who's total lack of educational or employment opportunities are exploited by the drug gangs. The real drug profiteers just write-off the loss and get another load ready to ship. -
Traffic Pattaya Residents Despair as Road Project Hits Year Four
dddave replied to snoop1130's topic in Pattaya News
They did connect the section running to 2nd Rd next to Rimhad Condo to the new waste line under 2nd Rd. completed last year. Where that waste line terminates is a good question. They are still digging from time to time at that Rimhad site but is seems more dirt management than anything else. -
Traffic Pattaya Residents Despair as Road Project Hits Year Four
dddave replied to snoop1130's topic in Pattaya News
At the core of this issue is the fact that the vast majority of the local residents of this area, mostly condo renters, can not vote. Condo renters can yell and scream all they want but as long as they don't represent a large block of voters, there is no political incentive for local officials to break a sweat flogging this project onward. Local officials only want to look ahead to new projects with fresh money to spend and contracts to award. Politically connected contractors doing the current work suffer no penalty for their slow work. Is there even a final plan? I have never seen a rendering of that the final roadmap will be. -
Some nearby Asian nations send seized illegal motorbikes and motorcycles straight to the crusher if fines and penalties are not immediately paid. Not a bad idea. I imagine that would get the attention of rental agents pretty quickly.

Crime Police Target Three Foreigners Over Firearms Shipment to Moscow
dddave replied to Georgealbert's topic in Bangkok News
Weapons with no local history for criminal gangs. -
I may need to drive from Jomtien to Korat city in the near future. Google maps suggests Rt-7 to Rt-304. While that is clearly the faster route it is also traffic and truck intensive. Is Rt-331 to Rt-304 a reasonable alternative? I know longer and twistier but less traffic intensive and more scenic? I won't be in a hurry and may actually make it a two day trip, staying a night along he way.

Accident Man Killed Instantly as Pickup Crashes into Power Pole in Chonburi

Pick-up's are really twitchy, especially on slippery roads. The lightweight rear end can easily come around with even a small steering error, as it did in this case. -
That's an interesting piece of information. I was told several times that one could go to Rayong or Sattahip and get a new license on a "Walk-in" basis. Nice to have the record straight.

While it's true you can watch the video online for license renewal and be credited as having watched it, you can not watch online the series of videos for initial license and be credited with having watched them.
