  1. Bodies can be a problem, two even more so as they have a way of popping-up and what, with all the CCTV cameras pointed at every crook and cranny, a bit of privacy to deal with the dearly departed is hard to come by. Just finding a nice little plot under which to bury them that won't suddenly sprout a "New Estates Available Soon" sign must be a challenge. Chopping up, if CSI is to be believed leaves a lot of tell-tail splatter and there's always a tooth or something that falls on the floor, waiting to be discovered. You have to give this lady credit for somehow dealing with the smell as you'd think that the place would have reeked on hot days. Remember the Bozo's in Pattaya last year? They murdered the German guy then found themselves on more video clips than a Instagram Madonna: Buying a burner phone, garbage bags, Chain saw and a BIG ice chest which later starred in a street cam clip in the back of their pick-up as they transported the body parts. You think it's easy?
  2. When I flew frequently as an air courier I kept a pillowcase in my carry-on. When encountering this situation, I'd stuff it with some of the clothes and jacket in my carry-on and stuff it into the gap. Even better if I could score an unused blanket as a gap stuffer.
  3. The US Center for Disease Control has recommended persons over 75 get the RSV (respiratory syncytial virus) vaccine. Is this vaccine available in Thailand?
  4. Sheryl: I know they have HPV immunization injections for mid-teen girls. What is the current age cut-off for effectiveness?
  5. A friend in Pattaya was diagnosed with Covid 3 weeks ago. He had to drive to Bangkok to get Paxlovid, about B24,000 at Bangkok Hospital. The Paxlovid seemed to work and he began to feel normal in a weeks time, no more fatigue after 2 weeks.
  6. For some, shoplifting is just getting something for nothing, for some it's an obsessive sickness. The now deceased wife of a billionaire NFL team owner was one. The team owner and his company had a charge account with a taxi company I worked for. We would get called to his home: ."See the maid." The maid would hand us shopping bags from the best stores in town: Saks, Bloomingdales, Talbots, etc. which were filled with clothes with tags still attached. We'd always go directly to the store manager who would check the contents, sign the invoice. The family's wealth and prestige saved them from any bad publicity. Every time the wife would enter a store, she'd be followed and an inventory would be kept of whatever she stuffed under her coat. The store would call the husband who would direct the maid to pack the booty back up and we'd be called to take it back, usually about once or twice a month.
  7. Hydroplaning. Going to fast for the conditions. The quickly passing white lines show he was going at a good clip, tires couldn't clear water fast enough.
  8. There are no government standards or licensing for those giving vision tests in most optical shops. Many learn OJT. You can get a competent vision test and prescription at most larger hospitals with an ophthalmology dept. but be sure to specifically ask for a VISION TEST and prescription. If you ask for an EYE EXAM, you get a physical examination of the eyes, not a vision test. For the best, Rutnin Eye Hospital near Asok in Bangkok but that's really overkill for a vision test. In my experience, the term "Varifocal" is often used interchangeably with "Progressive" lenses, If you want bi-focals, be sure to make that clear.
  9. When a friend was hit by a car in Pattaya and later died of his injuries, this company was a huge help to me and my friends family. This company specializes in expat deaths and the representative that I dealt with was very knowledgeable. I would say talking with them would be a very good start as this is a very complex situation and mis-information will make your life much more difficult. https://www.amarinternational.com/contact.html I can't post names or phone numbers here but if you DM me I will inform you who I dealt with.
  10. You bet they have to keep an eye on cashiers. In most retail businesses, inside employee theft is a huge issue and contributes to overhead which has to be made up in pricing. When I worked for a Sears in the US, friends of mine would stop buy my department expecting me to ring-up a "special" price for them. You can believe that if stores like Makro weren't vigilant, every cashier's aunt's, uncles, cousins and neighbors would head for her line and expect her to "miss" a few items. Taking it personally makes no sense at all.
  11. Anybody know of a parcel delivery service between Thailand and Philippines aside from FedEx/DHL/EMS.? I want to send a used laptop to a student in Manila. Battery restrictions rule out Thai Post/EMS. FedEx and DHL too expensive. If anybody has done similar, would the recipient probably be hit with significant duty on a used laptop? Value about $200
  12. That flyover/U-turn approach is tricky on a motorbike. If like me, I'm usually in the leftmost lane, letting faster traffic pass by on the right. There are arguably 5 lanes of traffic. The U-turn configuration isn't readily apparent until you are close and realize that to continue straight travel, you have to cross 2 lanes to the right pretty quickly to enter the flyover. That's not easy with traffic flying by on the right. I have often found myself taking the U-turn ramp just because I couldn't cross right safely in time.
  13. The way so many bikes fly downhill on Pratumnak-5, a congested area all times of day, I'm surprised there aren't more bad accidents there. Stopping a speeding bike is hard enough, downhill makes it that much more dangerous.
  14. I use a Chinese (GenMachine) Mini-PC for my living room TV powered by the Ryzen 5600H processor, 16gb RAM, 512SSD. It handles everything very well: streaming Netflix & Amazon, Internet and YouTube and a high bit-rate music service. I don't play video games so can not speak to game performance. I had purchased a very cheap (B3500) Peladn Mini-PC (8gb ram, 256ssd) on Lazada for my bedroom TV, powered by a Intel N5105 Celeron Processor and it couldn't handle handle YT videos or music streaming well and I soon had to replace it.
  15. New processors from both Intel and AMD (Ryzen) have made serious gaming possible on mini-pcs. I know little about gaming but I suggest your son look up the r/MiniPC forum on Reddit..lots of information and helpful users. I personally have several mini-PCs that I use for both video streaming and internet browsing, linked via HDMI to my large screen TV. I use a Logitec wireless keyboard & mouse for imput. Very easy. Currently, among the less expensive Mini-PCs, the N100 processor stands out for it's capabilities, especially 4K video output. BeeLink has been in the Mini-PC business for a long time, have decent customer support and make a good product. Lots of YT videos reviewing their products.
  16. My apartment overlooks Jomtien 2nd Rd and even between 3am and 5am, there is considerable traffic in both directions.
  17. I live in a 10th floor Jomtien Condo that overlooks 2nd Rd. The noise of motorbikes/cycles going through the gears like a Silverstone race start is a constant. Last night, I awoke around 2AM and noticed it was unusually quiet. Must be raining, I thought but a glance from my balcony revealed a police check-point set-up on both sides of 2nd Rd, next to the Rimhad Condos. Quietest it's been since Covid lock-down. I hope they come often.
  18. Pattaya is also serviced by National Telecom, formerly TOT. Rather than monthly billing, one pre-pays for specific service periods and 6 months is one of the options. I have used NT for 3 years now and service has been pretty good. Download speeds are fairly consistent and service interruptions are not frequent. One has to appear at their office in person, Passport and lease/ownership documents in hand to establish service. The office is at the intersection of Central Pattaya and 3rd Roads Edit: Last time I paid, they had 2 tiered pricing, foreigners paying more than Thai so if you have a Thai partner, best to have it in the partners name.
  19. I wonder. The OP mentioned that the person needing the SIM is mentally challenged. Are there any specific SIMs offered by the networks targeted at kids with selective access to the internet and apps. Maybe something like that would be appropriate.
  20. Don't ignore D-TAC, now owned by TRUE. It still seems to be running as a separate entity, perhaps having to do with bandwidth allocations.
  21. I've started giving-up on the Bangkok Post. It seems most of the online stories are often 4 or 5 days old.
  22. Full digital access to The Financial Times is almost $900/year. There are cheaper plans with "selective" access but what's the point of that? Reminds me of the New York Times now charging extra for access to complete sports and cooking. Soon one will have to pay a separate access charge for every section.
  23. When I was flying internationally twice a month, I used to look forward to snatching a free copy of "THE FINANCIAL TIMES" in the lounge or whilst boarding the aircraft. It is consistently one of the most interesting and literate newspapers I have ever read. Though geared to finance, it's coverage of a broad range of topics was always top-tier, especially the coverage of the arts. There was always several hours of good reading to be had. Unfortunately the subscription rate is geared towards the well heeled and out of my range. I do miss it.
  24. I'm curious. In a situation such as this where both the perps and victim were of the same nationality but the crime committed in a second country and the perps captured in other countries, which country has the greater right to prosecute those accused? The country where the crime occurred or the country from where-in both the victim and perps were citizens? I seem to recall earlier this year, several Chinese accused of kidnapping and murdering a Chinese woman in Bangkok were extradited to China for Chinese authorities to Prosecute.
  25. One poster was talking about 50mg tablets, other posters were speaking of mg's per 24 hour period and I was speaking of 37mg tablets. Far less confusing to speak to the total number of mg's rather that the number of tablets.
