Urgent Request for Information re Death of British Citizen in Thailand
dddave replied to Tippaporn's topic in General Topics
When a friend was hit by a car in Pattaya and later died of his injuries, this company was a huge help to me and my friends family. This company specializes in expat deaths and the representative that I dealt with was very knowledgeable. I would say talking with them would be a very good start as this is a very complex situation and mis-information will make your life much more difficult. https://www.amarinternational.com/contact.html I can't post names or phone numbers here but if you DM me I will inform you who I dealt with. -
You bet they have to keep an eye on cashiers. In most retail businesses, inside employee theft is a huge issue and contributes to overhead which has to be made up in pricing. When I worked for a Sears in the US, friends of mine would stop buy my department expecting me to ring-up a "special" price for them. You can believe that if stores like Makro weren't vigilant, every cashier's aunt's, uncles, cousins and neighbors would head for her line and expect her to "miss" a few items. Taking it personally makes no sense at all.

Anybody know of a parcel delivery service between Thailand and Philippines aside from FedEx/DHL/EMS.? I want to send a used laptop to a student in Manila. Battery restrictions rule out Thai Post/EMS. FedEx and DHL too expensive. If anybody has done similar, would the recipient probably be hit with significant duty on a used laptop? Value about $200

British National Killed in Sattahip Motorcycle Accident
dddave replied to Georgealbert's topic in Pattaya News
That flyover/U-turn approach is tricky on a motorbike. If like me, I'm usually in the leftmost lane, letting faster traffic pass by on the right. There are arguably 5 lanes of traffic. The U-turn configuration isn't readily apparent until you are close and realize that to continue straight travel, you have to cross 2 lanes to the right pretty quickly to enter the flyover. That's not easy with traffic flying by on the right. I have often found myself taking the U-turn ramp just because I couldn't cross right safely in time. -

The way so many bikes fly downhill on Pratumnak-5, a congested area all times of day, I'm surprised there aren't more bad accidents there. Stopping a speeding bike is hard enough, downhill makes it that much more dangerous. -
I use a Chinese (GenMachine) Mini-PC for my living room TV powered by the Ryzen 5600H processor, 16gb RAM, 512SSD. It handles everything very well: streaming Netflix & Amazon, Internet and YouTube and a high bit-rate music service. I don't play video games so can not speak to game performance. I had purchased a very cheap (B3500) Peladn Mini-PC (8gb ram, 256ssd) on Lazada for my bedroom TV, powered by a Intel N5105 Celeron Processor and it couldn't handle handle YT videos or music streaming well and I soon had to replace it.

New processors from both Intel and AMD (Ryzen) have made serious gaming possible on mini-pcs. I know little about gaming but I suggest your son look up the r/MiniPC forum on Reddit..lots of information and helpful users. I personally have several mini-PCs that I use for both video streaming and internet browsing, linked via HDMI to my large screen TV. I use a Logitec wireless keyboard & mouse for imput. Very easy. Currently, among the less expensive Mini-PCs, the N100 processor stands out for it's capabilities, especially 4K video output. BeeLink has been in the Mini-PC business for a long time, have decent customer support and make a good product. Lots of YT videos reviewing their products.

Foreign Rider Killed in Early Morning Motorcycle Crash in Jomtien

My apartment overlooks Jomtien 2nd Rd and even between 3am and 5am, there is considerable traffic in both directions. -
Late-Night Street Racers Disrupt Pattaya Residents
dddave replied to webfact's topic in Pattaya News
I live in a 10th floor Jomtien Condo that overlooks 2nd Rd. The noise of motorbikes/cycles going through the gears like a Silverstone race start is a constant. Last night, I awoke around 2AM and noticed it was unusually quiet. Must be raining, I thought but a glance from my balcony revealed a police check-point set-up on both sides of 2nd Rd, next to the Rimhad Condos. Quietest it's been since Covid lock-down. I hope they come often. -
Pattaya is also serviced by National Telecom, formerly TOT. Rather than monthly billing, one pre-pays for specific service periods and 6 months is one of the options. I have used NT for 3 years now and service has been pretty good. Download speeds are fairly consistent and service interruptions are not frequent. One has to appear at their office in person, Passport and lease/ownership documents in hand to establish service. The office is at the intersection of Central Pattaya and 3rd Roads Edit: Last time I paid, they had 2 tiered pricing, foreigners paying more than Thai so if you have a Thai partner, best to have it in the partners name.

I wonder. The OP mentioned that the person needing the SIM is mentally challenged. Are there any specific SIMs offered by the networks targeted at kids with selective access to the internet and apps. Maybe something like that would be appropriate.

Don't ignore D-TAC, now owned by TRUE. It still seems to be running as a separate entity, perhaps having to do with bandwidth allocations.

I've started giving-up on the Bangkok Post. It seems most of the online stories are often 4 or 5 days old. -

Full digital access to The Financial Times is almost $900/year. There are cheaper plans with "selective" access but what's the point of that? Reminds me of the New York Times now charging extra for access to complete sports and cooking. Soon one will have to pay a separate access charge for every section. -

When I was flying internationally twice a month, I used to look forward to snatching a free copy of "THE FINANCIAL TIMES" in the lounge or whilst boarding the aircraft. It is consistently one of the most interesting and literate newspapers I have ever read. Though geared to finance, it's coverage of a broad range of topics was always top-tier, especially the coverage of the arts. There was always several hours of good reading to be had. Unfortunately the subscription rate is geared towards the well heeled and out of my range. I do miss it. -
Final Suspect in Pattaya Barrel Murder Case Arrested in Vietnam
dddave replied to snoop1130's topic in Pattaya News
I'm curious. In a situation such as this where both the perps and victim were of the same nationality but the crime committed in a second country and the perps captured in other countries, which country has the greater right to prosecute those accused? The country where the crime occurred or the country from where-in both the victim and perps were citizens? I seem to recall earlier this year, several Chinese accused of kidnapping and murdering a Chinese woman in Bangkok were extradited to China for Chinese authorities to Prosecute. -
One poster was talking about 50mg tablets, other posters were speaking of mg's per 24 hour period and I was speaking of 37mg tablets. Far less confusing to speak to the total number of mg's rather that the number of tablets.

I've noticed more and more 3 and 4 day old featured stories lately. BP seems to be cutting coverage back.

TRAMADOL is generally considered safe if no more than 100mg/ 6hours, 400/24 hours as long as it is not being taken with other drugs that interact negatively or especially with alcohol. There have been reports of Tramadol causing psychosis in some individuals but that usually turns out to have alcohol involved, taken at the same time. I buy ULTRACET (Tramadol 37mg) OTC and take no more than 75 mg/day. Using it for 3 years now for knee pain with no noticeable side effects and no diminishment of effectiveness.

Best to do by QR code. Go through the DeeMoney forms, select QR code and copy to your phone. Open your Thai bank ap, select "SCAN" icon. Your photo page should come up. Tap the scanned QR code and it should show the bank transfer form for the sent amount. Confirm the transfer and save a copy. You should immediately get an email from the email account you registered from Dee Money confirming the transfer. You will also get an email when the recipient collects the money.

I bought a cheap, B400 tower stand from Lazada for a temporary situation. Very flimsy but the "Low" fan speed is actually comfortably low and quiet, nice for sleeping. No longer "temporary" While on fan topic. My bathroom has no fan nor an outlet for a stand fan and can get uncomfortably hot. I bought a couple of small 6" USB fans and power them each with 10,000 mAh power banks. Makes a big difference circulating the air and the battery charge lasts for about 3 weeks as long as I don't forget to turn them off when I leave.

This is the company I was referring to in my post hat helped my friends family with all the funeral arrangements. OP Ultimately, it's the families responsibility and I suggest you refer them to Amarinternational. They are excellent at what they do. My friend also died without a local or US will. The family in the US will have to present a huge amount of documentation and a local executor must be appointed and approved by a Thai court. Even with all that, it's a long haul to get at local assets. The local law industry feeds off of this situation and fees are extremely high and action slow. Many local law firms have upscale Western names and promise a high level of service but all the actual lawyers are Thai.

A Farang body can not be disposed of in any way without a proper "Death Certificate" If the person died in a hospital, they can provide it but usually insist that all outstanding bills be paid first. If the person died at home then it is more complicated as cause of death must be established. Sometimes if it's obviously a result of disease, they will let it go but usually an autopsy is required. The Police must be notified and the deceased's passport be presented. The Police will notify the person's embassy. Have a trusted Thai speaker talk to a local monk at a temple with a crematorium. A bare bones cremation usually costs between 5000 & 10,000 Baht depending on location. For the record, there are local companies that specialize in handling foreigner deaths and take care of virtually everything, all paperwork and funeral arrangements. When my friend died, his family used such a service and were very satisfied with the services provided. Cost was about B40,000
