Of course, you could do what a massive number of locals do and export "illegally", nobody really cares so long as
a. You never become an overall net-exporter (get a -ve bill) and
b. The meter reader doesn't see your meter going backwards (this is assuming you still have the old disc type meter which happily run in reverse).
A couple of panels and a baby grid-tie inverter, nobody's going to care, 20kW of energy going to grid you will need some serious paperwork and approvals.
By the way, you don't need rooms full (or even any) of batteries now, this chap is a 19" rack and can hold 30kWh of energy.
