  1. Tripe. Cities can be a nightmare, but I would sooner drive in Thailand than take on the tailgating BMW chavs on the utter crap (usually one lane) roads in the UK today. One of the pleasures of life in Thailand for me is to do a road trip. The north is especially great. Getting busier of course as more and more get 'vehiculated' and Bangkok folk (and Chinese dreamers) spread about, but still fun esp on a bike. Roads wider and smoother than they've ever been, PTT stations everywhere (loaded with 7-11, Amazon coffee as they are, don't bother stopping at another), G Maps more reliable, stop off at this or that motel (don't need to book), no hassle from traffic cops, and easy to get off the beaten track and explore the stunning country.
  2. Would personally take it and invest (5.8% would surely be beatable low risk?) and be more mindful of time. Also don't bet greedy Thailand in not taxing already taxed income & pensions etc! Bah humbug, grumble grumble. Would sooner pour it down the drain on rubbish 'beer'. Oh wait! 😋
  3. Are we still talking about Russians or digressed to Brits again? 😛 Cannot blame the draft dodgers from that maniac's war (put your own kids on the frontline, you Ahole!) Though they do tend to aggression somewhat and I abhor any one group overrunning another's turf, personally do not have a problem with the individual. Just temper that nationalism and be worldly, eh what!
  4. Didn't read replies so might have been said, but guaranteed that many of the local closures had them setting up shop in China to bring same products back anyway, all the while lowering overheads. Upshot is bigger profits for Thai owner (and the Chinese system) and the shaft for Thai workers. The whole world is going/has gone this way. Cheap tat and online shopping etc.
  5. $10k (equiv) a time. People without big luggage rarely get turned over anyway. On the whole b’locks tax thing, folk should just not spend 6 months. That is what the elitist priks in power want after all. F them!
  6. Those numbers are excessive unless carrying heavy loads and dangerous on wet roads. Used to have mine about 30 all round. Always check after it's been in for service. Thai mechanics like to blow them right up.
  7. This is almost certainly a stereotypical tarty-based blog... bar girl stuff. 'Normal' Thai women genuinely interested in a guy also seriously look at looks, manner and dress/cleanliness (the latter perhaps more so than western girls would). Making them laugh is also right up there as with anywhere.
  8. Ban mass market Chinese and Indians. No more zero dollar tours. 👍
  9. Not quite. While the US’s system for getting in new presidents could seriously do with revising, Thailand is light years behind where government is concerned. It is kindergarten stuff and basically just a few steps ahead of Burma. I hope they listen.
  10. Tripe. People say all that but the bloke speaks a lot of sense... certainly can't do any worse than the wishy washy donkeys that have been running things into the ground and couldn't give a flying one about the average Joe.
  11. Could be that or bearing issue, but possibly overcharged since the noise in question happens later on. Get a proper engineer to have a look, he'll bung some gauges on there to check pressure etc.
  12. Although this is the world tourism council, it can be a bit like that in Thailand. Come in come in all our welcome, no wait we want quality tourists not quantity, visa waivers for all, Phuket is too busy we don’t want more tourists, let’s double the waiver to attract more tourists. 🙄
  13. He is right this time, and no reason why the BBC should not be hated... a joke of an organisation today when it gets involved in anything but period drama and the natural world. The news, esp' political, is pure pain. As for Labour, it would be more of the same bs (Starmer is a rubbishy, smug politician with no agenda beyond the obvious), pushing the same tired old *welfare* monies around. The UK is utterly lost amid wokeness, welfare and propping up very old people in buggies. Shove it!
  14. These guys are SOOOOO out of touch with the general populace. Just move along, would you!
  15. Pathetic. Thailand still at least two or three generation’s away from being grown up and democratised.
  16. There are also Thai and other Asian beggars on streets of countries around the world. Thailand is not special in that regard. These here are likely mostly Cambodians etc; the Brit was included in the article to spice it up, but you reap what you sow… woo foreigners and make it real easy for them to come in, what d’you expect? Live with it or have the police do their job and round them up.
  17. Why the laughing emoticons? People are weird. No, that is not a near death experience (unconscious/floating over one’s body etc), but sitting for hours in a plane sauna is no joke. Pilot should’ve got them off earlier.
  18. ^^^ People don’t go to prison when they buy cigs and beer. Derr.
  19. I’d sooner pay 300 baht every time I come in than be faced with a potential tax headache. Can they scrap that instead?
  20. Likely a whiny boomer. I’d sooner see young backpackers enjoying themselves than miserable old so n sos. 🙂
  21. Is that why the Dutch are so tall, stretching their necks above the waves? 😛
  22. Gawd. Boomer perchance? When it rains, people get wet. When you pump billions of tons of carbon dioxide into the atmosphere, what happens?
  23. Indeed. They will more than likely F it all up and we will all end up paying for the error handsomely.
  24. Tripe. Britain was one of the, VERY FEW, net contributors. Do you know what that means? Any perceived degradation to infrastructure is a direct consequence of the 400B spent on paying the populace during COVID (though remoaners will conveniently overlook that) while the economy is bouncing back. How's things in Germany etc? Dopey Starmer at the helm would not make a difference during or after COVID. Just shift monies around. Not a Tory, but please don't talk about Labour! Try again.
